You are too stanic! All you wanna hear in your life is bad news all the way.
When you are not a student of history....when previous governments or regime were paying directly into LGs acct were the states controling their resources themselves?

All what they love hearing is bad news.... God pass una...bad belle people

WikeTheDrunk:
Stories.

It is only applicable when the federal government stops controlling the resources of the states. No governor will implement it and nothing will happen. Most African countries have very weak institutions.

The SC embarked on judicial activism which is somewhat contrary to the those sections you cited but let's wait for the CTC.

The SC under OBJ/Tinubu feud, don't pay to LGAs directly due to S162
The SC now, pay to LGAs directly.
The same Constitution!

The Constitution will have to be amended as well.
I'm beginning to start to believe that Tinubu has an influence on this very judgement.

It's absurd and awkward to believe such a thing.
Anyways...
Let's wait for the CTC.

Yes. The National Assembly may have to look at that section again or it remains unconstitutional.

Wait..
Something that is inside the constitution would now be termed unconstitutional.??

What if the CTC of the judgement didn't make any mention of that section in question??

.....
senatordave1:

Yes afterall only them have the power to interpret the statutes whether rightly or otherwise
So now,, what if the CTC of the judgement is finally out, and it happened that the judgement didn't make any mention of that section in question,, does it still mean that the judgement had interpreted that particular statutes which it negated without even mentioning??

By implication,that section is dead

His handwriting is written all over it.
Nonetheless we will see what's inside the CTC.

We the electorate now need to ensure that we get the right people in as LG Chairmen.
Re: Supreme Court Grants LGs Financial Autonomy by BALLOSKI: 3:19am On Jul 12
This is a good news. State electoral commissions should be scrapped. Let's get it right at that level.

With the same governors conducting the elections? They'd conduct election and win everywhere.

Wow!!!

Well done AGF..Lateef Fagbemi SAN!

Well done to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu..

Any State Governor that cannot ensure the LG elections are conducted when they are suppose to be conducted, have no business getting allocations for the LG in that State..Period!!!
They'd conduct the elections, pick their own and put them in office, then they'd receive this allocation and hand them back to the governors to use for whatever they deem fit.
Re: Supreme Court Grants LGs Financial Autonomy by BALLOSKI: 3:37am On Jul 12
ourcrudeoil:
Lol. Another question is who will be conducting LG elections?
That's my question. The power to conduct their election should be taken away from the states. They organize sham, pick their own and call it election.

This is one of the reasons I don't support the creation of state police - look at what the governors are doing with the state houses of assembly and the state judiciary.

Next is allowing INEC TO CONDUCT LGC elections.
Exactly my thoughts, INEC should be allowed to conduct the local government election on the same day of conducting the governorships/states assembly elections.

I am not disputing this can happen...all I can say is, it can't happen in the entire 774 LGs in Nigeria.

This is a positive gain and any anomaly that remains will be corrected with time. Make we celebrate this first

We just run away from the solution to our problems. I'm happy this is happening, but we should go the whole hog since we have a president with a semblance of political will to challenge the governors in this regard.

The power to conduct their election should be taken away from the governors - they killed the LGs.

We know how Yahaya Bello and other governors would ask the LG chairmen to submit projects in their LG, then, they return the money to the state government coffer and their needs are taken care of for them.

What an anomaly!

It's a very sad one.. honestly speaking.

I will be very impressed, if the machinery of EFCC are fully activated against LG Chairmen going forward...make everyone bear their papa name.

Anyone wey mismanage any funds sent to the LG should be held responsible

When will they implement this?
This month. LGAs will start getting their allocation from the FG this month
Re: Supreme Court Grants LGs Financial Autonomy by Paraman: 8:07am On Jul 12
bigpicture001:
Supreme court is not the writer of the constitution...it only interpret it...so this is not a lawful judgment....cuz 99' constitution directs that funds for LG must pass through state account...

Another tinubu forced judgment!!!!!!
So how many state governors do give the LG chairman their complete money? Some of the governors don't even hold a LG election but still dip their hands into LG funds.

Governors witholding LG funds is unconstitutional, the supreme court gave a great judgement

Joint Account is established by the constitution, so you don't just scrap it by a ruling, you legislate it out (repeal)

So paying LGA money to any other account other than the State Joint Account is illegal

And the Constitution is superior to the Supreme Court

You're asking me a chididsh question

Who went to the supreme court because of this issue? Is it not the FG led by the president?
