Congratulations. Can you give us a timeline on how your application was treated?

I submitted my application on the 3rd of June, the next update was on June 27th asking me to submit my passport. The whole thing was just about 3 weeks

Question 1) Has anyone ever purchased another GIC after having a previous one of 10k that’s still in term and have not been used?

2) are there other forms of investment I can use to demonstrate I have the financials at my disposal apart from CIBC gic ?
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by MarksmanD: 1:46pm On Jul 11
How much was your previous GIC?

It is difficult to prove source of funds from an unregistered company, there will be too much complication.

You were flagged in 3 areas

In your own account- Your account contained lump sum deposits that you did not explain nor showed how the funds were raised to be paid into your account and the account also had low balances at the opening period. While low balances is not a big red flag, you would have explained all lump sum deposit exhaustively

Fixed Deposit investment- You did not show how you raised the funds to do this fixed deposit, whilst the funds are there, you did not tell the VO how you came up with the money in the first place- You need to explain how the money in the Fixed deposit was raised and back it up with documents

Third party sponsor - Though funds were available in the sponsors account, you did not explain how you were related with the sponsor with documents - If you are going to use any sponsor in your reapplication, you need to show how you are related to that sponsor and also show previous financial assistance offered by the sponsor to you.

Can I use or tag it as a side hustle job? registering it now will serve as a red flag.

Hello guys so i posted few days ago about not getting a reply back from the school i applied to for a phd programme after about 10 weeks in. They got back to me and said that they couldnt grant admission because there were no available supervisors. Now i am left wondering what really the case is whether its with alignment with my proposed phd topic or maybe they are extremely busy which i am unsure of given there are many potential supervisors on the faculty page of the school. When i messaged them they said that if i plan to reapply that it may be better to establish connection with a supervisor before application. This was infact the exact same thing i thought having read other peoples stories . however in the initial phase of my applicaiton process i emailed them that i had actually sent a mail to potential supervisors but ddnt get a reply from the 3 professors i mailed . They replied with an email saying that it wasnt necessary to email professors that the school themselves can do the connection with potential supervisors once my application was in their system. So i am the point where i am deciding my options for the next available term which is september 2025, i plan to reapply there and to other places . But for this school that i really hope to get into i am guessing one needs to hope for the best in establishing connection with a potential supervisor but then one isnt too sure whether the real issue with no supervior available currently, is really a matter of my topic area or not . Because knowing that would have helped to decide if i need to modify it or not. Any advice would be highly appreciated

You can but you still need to explain with documents which you do not presently have, whilst you might get receipts for payments, invoices etc, you will not be able to prove ownership of the venture.

You can use your wife (if married) as a sponsor, get her to open a fixed deposit account and close it before expiration (if you don't have enough time), then indicate in your SOP she funded with her fixed account

The total available funds on your bank statement was 16m naira or more?

You did not show enough documents to prove the source of funds invested. that is where the problem lies.

What the school does is send applications to various supervisors, so the supervisors pick at random the ones they want to work leaving the other rejected or sent to different supervisors, if they can get a supervisor for you it means no one was willing to work with you based on your topic or your application wasn't selected. Your topic should align with the research work of the faculty members it will be easy for you to get a supervisor, and establishing a connection with a supervisor also works better and faster. But getting them to respond to your message is something you need to keep trying, so the earlier you begin the better for you.
