Why no blackman country?
What exactly is the problem of blackman?
Black nations have carelessly allowed their best brains leave Nigeria to develop America, Canada and the UK due to the corrupt leaders whom they always support out of sentiments. I know of 2 Nigerians whose wealth can shoot up our gdp astronomically. They're in the US. Their wealth have contributed greatly to the GDP of the US

Are you aware that Ghana's GDP has overtaken ours? It's really sad
Pls this is false...

Nigeria's GDP has dropped significantly. Ghana's GDP isn't close to Nigeria's.

Maybe slightly higher than half of Nigeria's total GDP!

indian economy is growing fast, the same with Brazil

India has a big economy. They are over 1bn. There is nothing like growing fast. Those two countries are doing well when it comes to the numbers.

I know both are fast growing economies...

Just didn't expect them to be in the top 10 bracket... Especially India, because of high poverty rate even though they have a huge population!

India's high poverty rate explains their relatively puny $3T economy.
The large number of Indians beneath the poverty line continues to be a huge drag; less so as the years roll by.
If India had the same GDP per capita as Turkey, it'll have a $13T economy.

India has a date with destiny. It'll become far and way the THIRD largest economy in our lifetimes.

I agree with you...

India's economy will compete with China at the top in due time.

Nigeria has a lot to learn from countries taking advantage of their huge human resources!

Wow...

But I fail to see the corelation between population growth and education of women.

There is a clear correlation between educating women and having a low fertility rate. It has been documented across regions regardless of cultural, religious or ethnic differences. It is one of the few concepts which binds the world.

Maybe technology also contributes one way or the other.
Technologies here are:
- Medical advancement such as contraceptives and treatments which reduced infant mortality rates. So, unlike 50 years ago, couples can procreate fewer children knowing they will live longer.
- The Internet and its sister social media have afforded humans to have entertainment options beyond just sitting at home doing nothing.

Wealth is also another factor as wealthier people have fewer children. In most cases, wealth in today's world is directly linked to education, especially higher education.

Also is it the fertility that's the problem ie declining fertility rates or it's just sheer unwillingness to have sex?

As I mentioned, modern life and its vicissitudes. For one, East Asia frowns at wedlock. So, this means for the fertility rate to be low, the marriage rate is low. The question is: why is the marriage rate low?

One, women are now educated, so they are now choosy. Remember, women have always been hypergamous since Adam. This means they gravitate towards men with greater financial resources. These men are fewer in society especially as women's entry into the workforce led/leads to fewer jobs for men.

Two, educated couples want the best for their children. This means more entertainment options for the children, nutrition, after-class tutoring etc. In 2018, Singaporeans spent S$1BN on tutoring outside the standard classroom education. East Asians have an uber-competitive nature towards education. So, the competition is intense as parents don't want to be left behind.

Three, the rise in feminism, especially in South Korea. There, the women stay away from whatever will have them do with men. Fourth, the cost of living has soared. Fifth, young people aren't as interested in marriage as their parents were.

Finally, it is not necessarily an East Asian issue as all developed countries, except Israel, are experiencing low fertility rates, ditto developing nations. Theirs is severe because it is largely cultural as wedlock is frowned upon and stiff immigration policies, though this is changing.

What is at play there reflecting high leve of poverty is PCI( per capitaa income) .Their population is huge compared to economic activities going on in the country.l

How are Indians that poor with such huge GDP. Abi their huge population is not productive enough for a decent per capital income.

Am amused by Germany.

Germany was on ground zero 70years ago after the 2nd World war. How did it overtake Britain, France and Russia etc that won the war?

"Paradox of victory"

Nigeria should be heading forward but those that "won" are leading and basking in the euphoria of victory, so we are heading on a backward speed.
Germany was number 3 behind USA and Japan for about 60 years after the war until China and India rose recently.

Before WWII Germany already had one the best and heaviest industry and coal mining sector in the world. Innovation was massive during the war too.

After the war, Germany focused on industry, automobile, engineering, Steel, machinery, chemical industry, etc.

Their post-war Chancellor called Konrad Adenauer told Germans that the only way for them to earn respect was through economy and production. Since love from other people will be scarce due to Hitler's atrocities. So, earn respect at least. And they listened.

Mercedes Benz, VW, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Siemens, Bosch, Bohringer Ingelheim, Hoechst, Bayer, Krupp/Thyssen, and more got to work.
They became the world's factory and supplier alongside Japan for decades. Until China, South Korea, Taiwan and others joined the world factory league.

Margaret Thatcher moved UK away from manufacturing to financial sector and services. Industries and coal mining were going down anyway.

France was number 4 world economy until about 2002. Since 1945. China and India have since moved ahead. UK has slightly moved ahead too.

The middle classes and educated/productive population has increased dramatically in Asia since past 30 years. So, growth had to come at some point.

Africa, if a little serious. will grow too. But countries eventually grow and reach their peak. China will overtake USA within 15 to 20 years.

UK and France already reached their peak decades ago. There is no extra large population to rise to middle class/produce more. They now focus on producing more high-end products and services.

What Rewani is talking about in what you quoted is GDP growth rate...

Not GDP itself. There is a difference.

Nigeria's GDP may have slowed or reduced but it's still bigger than Ghana's.

Nigeria has the 4th largest GDP in Africa with Ghana coming at a distant 11th position even though they have a faster growing GDP of 3% or so as stated by Rewani in the article you quoted!

They are crappy countries. Their economy grows but it doesn't reflect on the living standard of citizens. People are not pulled out poverty, the infrastructure is still poor in most areas and access to basic amenities is still not there. There is still no middle class and the gap between the rich an poor gets wider.
Both are still third world countries per say

And I am telling you why India is where it is and we are where we are. Indians have self respect. Their national language is not English for example. They embrace their culture, they don’t give themselves foreign names, they have self respect, they have dignity, they don’t run to the EI or US with their domestic problems. They don’t sell themselves out to please the west. They don’t have an inferiority complex and try to be what they are not.

Am I the one that said God bless America? It is because of the eeediots who say “God bless America” that we are where we are.

Singapore’s national language is English. Singapore welcomed expatriates from all over the world. Singapore has the highest per capita income in the world.

Some people on Nairaland are dual citizens. There is nothing wrong with a person who is American or aspires to be American saying God bless America.

The ultra-religious Jews. They can have up to five or more children. Generally, Israelis love having children as they are fond of them and their presence. This is a marked difference compared to South Koreans. But the Orthodox/Hasidic Jews as they are known have prolific fecundity.

America should set a target of $100 trillion Gdp in order to secure the distance between them and China. They should also find ways to sabotage the Chinese economy and pull them down (like the village people lol).

God willing, if China also acquires a president like Tinibu to further destroy their economy, Germany and Japan would be able to overtake China, thereby securing the democratic countries at the top of the world economy.

Slave mentality is the reason we are backward.

It is Nigerians with slave mindset that will sign agreements with west that impoverish us because you are happy to have western partners.

Olisa Agbakogba was on TV yesterday talking about the oil industry. People like you will sign agreements with the oil companies such that everything they do is done with foreigners even down to catering. Are there no Nigerian caterers? And they will charge $2,000 per meal. Money that should go to the Nigerian economy and Nigerians. It is eeediots like you at the root of our underdevelopment. God bless America my Arse!!!! Eeediots!!!
Blame yourself and the e.diotic leaders you elect to govern your affairs and stop blaming USA.
If you check very well, I will not be disappointed that your likes, voted for Buhari first and second tenure, then to Emilokun.
USA or the west, are not your problems, but the imbeciles you have as leaders.

One e. Diot, I did my Youth service together then, voted for Buhari first and second tenure, because he was a Muslim, I warned he then even to the point of throwing punches, despite the Buhari poverty ridden regime, he still voted for Emilokun, because he was his tribal man and a Muslim, we insulated ourselves to the point that he blocked me on Facebook. But, if you see how this Ãnimals blame the USA or the west for his misrèable life.

Currency.

The Japanese Yen is now over 160 to a dollar, I think. Just a few years ago, it was 110 -115. As your currency's value decreases against the dollar, your GDP will be recalculated by the percentage of the decrease.

Same thing happened to Nigeria.

That's why we went from No.1 in Africa to No.4. If naira keeps falling, and South African Rand, or Egyptian Pound remain stable or gain in value against the dollar, their GDP will be worth more in dollar value than Nigeria 's. That' exactly what happened in the past year.

The strength of every economy in the world, including each country's GDP, is calculated by reference to the almighty US dollar.

Another problem for the Japanese is the country's population is falling every year. It means there are not enough newborns replacing those dying. So, their domestic market is shrinking, their companies can't find enough employees, the proportion of old people relative to young ones is high and increasing. In another 100 years, Japan's population will be less that half what it is today.

Japanese are not having sex. The men refuse to have it. The women don't want it either. So, few children are being born. The country is slowly dying.
In relation to the strength of currently, why it UK not doing fine economically (they are in distant sixth) despite having the strongest currency in the world ?
Your last two paragraphs sounds strange.
Japanese are not having sex, lol

Then, why not open their doors to immigrants so as to boost their workforce, or maybe they are ok with where they are.
