First, he should come back to Nigeria and live with his people.

Tellmeastory:
The FG must name something big in this country after the legendary Professor Chinua Achebe.

I am a great fan and reader of Wole Soyinka, by the way, so this is not based on any beef with the great Nobel-winning writer, who certainly earned the right to have the National Theatre named after him by President Tinubu.

But we must not put Chinua Achebe, the Booker Prize winning author of Africa’s greatest novel, Things Fall Apart, in the position of the proverbial lizard of his great book who fell from the tall iroko tree, and promised to praise himself if no one else did.

That book is Required Reading in the curricula of schools all over the world, from Kenya to the USA.

It has been translated into over 100 languages worldwide, and remains till date, the biggest selling novel by an African, bringing great honour to Nigeria.

Achebe was also an erudite advocate for good governance and govt accountability.

According to wiki

“Chinua Achebe…. was a Nigerian novelist, poet, and critic who is regarded as a central figure of modern African literature. His first novel and magnum opus, Things Fall Apart (1958), occupies a pivotal place in African literature and remains the most widely studied, translated, and read African novel.

Along with Things Fall Apart, his No Longer at Ease (1960) and Arrow of God (1964) complete the "African Trilogy".

Later novels include A Man of the People (1966) and Anthills of the Savannah (1987).

In the West, Achebe is often referred to as the "father of African literature", although he vigorously rejected the characterization.“

They should ask first because last time Chinua Achebe didn't want the FG Honor

Any government that it's project is to frustrate and deal with the igbos rootlessly will surely end up a monumental failure.

Gentlemen, we must honour this man.

Chinua Achebe spent his latter years writing nonsense about Nigeria and Goodlock Jonathan ensured he was buried like a dog.

If he wasn't such a bitter old loser, he would have been celebrated.

Anyway, Tinubu has named an Expressway after him. If you feel it isn't enough, you donate your sisters to his family to honour him more.

The most important thing Chinua ever did was beef Soyinka, his superior in all ramifications.

I remember when our Igbo brohers were fighting for Achebe to be given the Nobel laurel post humously grin
It is never done, they dont give after death and it is not given for being a best seller either.
James Hadley Chase had 90 titles and 50 were best sellers but he never won the Nobel prize,so also were others.
It is for classical writers not everyday story teller.

Truthfully,Chinua Achebe must be honoured by Tinubu.
He deserves being honoured. He was a great writer.
I wasn't a literature man but I read Achebe's books. I can't remember any of Soyinka's own I read.
If his were very good, my dad would have bought a couple. I read Chinua's own taking delight. His books were the most talked about while a lot of us were growing up.
As for the awards, Chinua, rejected them.

This is pointless
The man rejected national awards when he was alive
He surely wouldn't want any one now
Heck he even turned 50 cent down
That is called principles
Something the average Nigerian would struggle to grasp
