Wtf are you saying? So you don't see a difference between HoTD S1 and S2? They're how many locations in S1 and S2? How many VFX shots for dragons and dragon battles did you seen in S1. They had to create Harrenhal, Winterfell, the Vale, they built a full city for Kings Landing, they built a fully functioning sewer which took months to create, you think that's easy. Do you know how many years it also took to make HoTD S1? More than 2 years.
Because of the workload for Dragon shots and SFX - they had to bring in thousands of extras, create new sets. You should know the problems it comes with making sets and production expenses

Interesting one would have thought they would reuse the set from GOT. I mean they had alot of the current locations even Harrenhall where Ayra met no one. Well it is possible it was all tore down after it ended.

Every Land used for production is for lease or rent. Do you think they'd continue paying for a set for 5 years that's of no use. Plus Harrenhal is different 170 years from Ayra's time

Exactly why I said they most likely tore it all down after the end of GOT? And no one said Harrenhal will be the same but if HOTD was made immediately after GOT the logical thing is to reuse what you have while making necessary adjustments no?

There's a 3 years gap between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

No it's not logical because it's won't be the same production crew? The only thing they could reuse is the architectural drawings but it has to immediately be torn down? The same thing goes for sets of Harrenhal in s2 and s4, they'd to redo the sets again

It could be the same production crew or at least to a large percentage if its immediately after GOT you can't be certain they will change everyone.

Vermithor, known as the ‘Bronze Fury,’ is the second largest dragon in Westeros and was once ridden by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.

Only Vhagar is larger.

Game of thrones ended in 2019, while House of the Dragon began airing in 2022

i was referring to the timeline between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, not production setting or location or whatever.

Balerion is said to be bigger than Vhagar according to the books

and between S1 and S2 of HOTD, the production design set is totally different right? Is that what you are trying to say? Oh please. There is no valid reason for HOTD seasons to have a year interval and it's only the Dragons that are sparsely shown that even require heavy VFX work, the other effects are basically green room effects.

I can listen to fantasy shows taking time, so what is the excuse for drama shows? or sci fi shows that require very little vfx input?

The fact remains, the longer they hold on to these shows, the more relevancy and merch they can sponge off these shows, them not been able to make it as quickly as possible because of the reasons you stated are far from it, is very far from it. I listened to a pod on show making sometime ago, and I got to know that showrunners back in the day, already have a plan for the writing of the show from start to finish, making them easier to film between years.

HOTD can be excused for taking time. That shows budget is massive and that's the reason for the reduced episodes count.

The dragon fights we're seeing this year don't come cheap and is thousands of manhours work. It's probably the best dragon fights we've ever seen on the screen. They look so fvvking good and no one can complain about the CGI of the show.

Correction, GOT wasn't all that good from the first few seasons. It was mostly drama. The production quality was definitely higher and above what other network TV could offer back then but it's overall production quality is nowhere near the last two to three seasons. Part Reasons the episodes progressively reduced during the last few seasons and the production budget skyrocketed to the highest ever spend for the shows of all time.

GOT sword fights in the first two to three seasons was cartoonish and a pain to watch for me. Their sword fights those first few seasons was prolly the most uninspiring and vanilla flavoured swordfights I ever witnessed on screen. Part reason I didn't get into GOT all that quick back then.

The VFX workload for HOTD dragons is way greater due to their numbers compared to GOT.
Even G.R.R Martin acknowledges where they would see a budget to show hundreds of dragons in one of the upcoming shows. That's why it'd be animated.

As for STRANGER THINGS, I wholly agree with you with Netflix unnecessarily dragging the show on cos they got no Biggie to replace it with.
I really love that show but Netflix tactics is inherently becoming stupid and annoying. The only good thing is just the hour and half episodes they served us the last time.

I swear.. I remember the time we use to have 24 episodes in a season undecided and they make this shows every year... Back in the days of supernatural, small ville, merlin now they all gone lazy

It's possible cos these shows are way cheaper to produce. Unlike the streaming era which has brought significantly higher costs to produce a single episode. Those days was network TV where writers are on active employment throughout the season.
Those shows also had short mid-breaks. Then drop the remaining episodes cos consecutive episodes was being shot already as it aired weekly.

Streaming brought all episodes at once by Netflix and Amazon changing the weekly format of network TV. . This is the consequence. Cos things need to be restarted once more for a new season.

Also let's not forget the additional budget strain it brings by closing a set and trying to set it back up after wrapping up already for a new season. There's added costs to it.

But it seems Max is tinkering with the idea of bringing back 15+ episode count TV shows. With The Pitt (a medical procedural) coming online next year.

Note that year of production is different from year of release.

Last season was 2019 but sure as hell wasn't that year it was shot. HOTD started shooting 2021 so even two year time gap is massive.

Also 170 plus year gap in storyline and era makes it very different. Kings Landing and The Red Keep you see in disrepair will be different in a century interval.

I don't expect the city looking Kings Landing we've been seeing in both shows to be the same we'd see in upcoming AEGON'S CONQUEST.

Just watched episode 4 of HOTD and I hate Meleys had to go out like that. Rhaenys made all the worst tactical decisions she could make.

She refused to kill the greens at the dragons pit. Daemon pleaded with her that they work together if they'll have any chance of beating Vhagar. She refused. Only for her to now take the fight solo.
It's when she grounded Vhagar and should have landed a killing blow that she decided to retreat. How did Vhagar even get ahead of Meleys so fast after being grounded??

Vhagar tho. How's a lizard that size laying ambushes all the time. That's the only dragon I cant wait to see die. I hope the showrunners dont Bleep up that Vhagar vs Caraxes fight
