You can still do passive listening when you are occupied with something else, just set the proper expectations that you are not going to absorb 100% of the material, even if you absorb 10%, it is still good enough. Only do passive listening with audios to which you have listened and decoded their meanings. Don't do passive listening with new audios. olabanji88: |

79733139: With your experience in this journey, do you think living in a francophone country for 3 months immersion will help in blasting TEF or TCF, especially for someone on A2 level. I'm looking at embarking on this adventure next year, it'll cost a lot of money so I need some assurances |

Yes! That's the perfect environment. You also need to put enough self-study, get a French teacher in the city or town and make friends with young Francophones who have lots of freetime, so that you can be forced to keep speaking French and self correcting. babakb: 1 Like |

Bilingualism: I agree. He's quite humble and will ensure you get what he's teaching. If you don't understand, ask him repeatedly because sometimes he can be fast while teaching. I've learned so much in a short time since I started my French class with him. I'll recommend him as an expert french tutor. |

[
Hello Lovely People ! An update I owe to this platform, following my previous post and your words of encouragement, j’ai repasse l’examen le 10 Juin et par la grace de Dieu, c’est termine! CO 505 C1 CE 518 C1 EO 13 B2 EE 13 B2 I have said this story so many times, so I’d spare you the details. I’d close this with three points: 1. It’s definitely attainable! I heard about this French route a few years ago but I kept telling myself “nahh, the scores would go down, I shouldn’t have to go to this length or kill myself this much”. Last year confirmed this wouldn’t be the case with the trend of the draws, and I had to dive into action. All thanks to people who shared their timelines and stories honestly on this platform to encourage others. I saw it was possible for others juggling job, family, and many other things and figured I could do this also. 2. Find a community! This is super important. This journey is challenging especially for English speakers, starting from scratch (A0,A1 etc). It is not one of those things or hurdles you navigate privately ooo 😂, it is emotionally and mentally arduous. Thus, you need ALL the support you can get (from relatable stories/experiences, astuces, conseils, and exam stories). One of the communities you can leverage is the Telegram group (I discovered this only after my first attempt). Shoutout to those amazing human beings!!! Madam Labelle, ma belle (in her words), you all are too too much! God Bless You! 3. Leverage all resources possible but don’t overwhelm yourself with them. Get a tutor that can guide you and narrow your focus on the most important tools/resources. My tutor was instrumental in this entire journey (I posted previously about this). If you can, try to enjoy the process. If you can’t enjoy it for whatever reason…. just focus on the target and do your best. Ca va aller. Que Dieu nous aide Congratulations to you on your latest results. Please I have some questions for you. Firstly, is this score necessary for someone that is using French as his/her second language? Is B1/B2 score not okay to pull through? Also, can you please assist with the link to a French telegram group or community, I would like to join one. |

Bonjour à tous At the risk of repeating a question already I asked. I want to simply get your opinion. Which is better in learning French ? Online tutor Physical tutor French books Which is better for language immersion? Visiting francophone ? Or listening regularly to French podcasts/radio My target is a B2/C1 |
Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by aurorae1: 12:29pm On Jul 22 |
Etinosajay: At some point you will basically use all three... I know I did. But with the way distance is set up, you might have to make do with an online tutor. For immersion, nothing beats living amongst francophones and being forced to ingest and produce french. This will not be possible for most people, as such you'll have to create this environment for yourself. Read in french, talk to french people, change your phone's language to french, basically try to live in french as much as possible. You have to be intentional with this. 2 Likes |

How much resources and free time that you have at your disposal is what would eventually influence your choice. Do you have the money to live in Cotonou, Bénin, whilst attending a French school and engaging a private French tutor to ask questions and put in more practice? Can you afford to subscribe to online programs while living in Cotonou? Are you willing to make friends with French speakers in Cotonou to improve your speaking? Are you willing to also put in time for personal study using books? Like I said, it all depends on your resources and free time. If you can't afford to do all, then you have to make do with whatever you can afford within your work schedule (if you have a regular job). In summary, the perfect option is to do everything, but for most people, it is unrealistic to do that because of money and time constraints, either they can't afford it or they can't quit their jobs to live in a Francophone country. Hello everyone, please I want to know. Aside writing TEF, does anyone have an idea of someone that got study permit approval to study French as a course in Canada? If yes, which school? |

Thank you! And thanks NwunyeAlberta! My tutor was madame Bizang. She taught me for 5months and then we did exam prep for 2months. Her contact is on this thread. Then I self studied the rest of the time. Additionally, I practiced for one week with another tutor before my second attempt (he charges per hour, so that’s all I could spare). His contact is plus two three four eighty sixty-seven eighteen sixty sixty I should say, the time difference makes it hard for him to take students living outside of his time zone (I think he’s currently in Montreal). So it was tough, one day, he had the class at 6am his time…not easy at all. Both are great at their job. Someone asked if C1 is necessary. It isn’t, you need a B2. But make sure it’s B2 “high” in the listening test otherwise you’d have to retake all 4 sections of the exam. Same thing happened to me. So the higher, the better. 7 Likes |

If you are having problems with your French listening, here is a useful resource that I used to improve my listening skills before I started attempting the listening tests of TEF. The website FrenchPod closed down over 4 years ago but the audios and transcriptions are still available. 3 Likes 2 Shares

If you don't already do this, record your speaking practice sessions and after each session, listen to the recordings so that you can improve faster. My speaking practice were on regular phone calls (Whatsapp makes it difficult for apps to record voice calls) and I recorded every session (more than 85 hours+) and listened to them immediately afterwards in order to hear my mistakes and areas where I was struggling to remember the right words or messing up sentence structures.
