Dayo needs to come visiting in naija without police escort to back him up. We will see how much support he has for police 'doing their jobs'
As I've always pointed out, it's easy to have an opinion when you're personally far removed from realities on ground.

I carry my work ID EVERYWHERE just in case I run into anyone on uniform as for some reason they have some regard for health professionals.

Your first link he rammed into a patrol car obviously harming those in the car, he was stopped with spikes that's after leading him to a lone road

The second link kidnapped a baby
We know US police hardly shoot at criminals unless maybe blacks because they assume they are armed

How did the police know he kidnapped a baby? They checked his ID it didnt match and he fled

Officers tried to engage with the suspect as he continued to act "in a threatening way" and ultimately shot at him, Wagner said. He was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. No officers or civilians were injured, according to Wagner.

You think I've not lived in Nigeria or I've not visited Nigeria recently? For my own personal safety, I will never flee from a policeman cos at that points all bets are off

Do you flee when police stop you? Or will you flee?

I still find it hard to drive in this country even to carry backpack is another problem as I am always with PC

Police encounters for a black person in US are probably more dangerous than in Nigeria. Police have stopped me in Nigeria and in the US before and it never occurred to me to run from them no matter how pissed I am or how wrong I think they are

Running from police is just Russian roulette. Every encounter with police, your mind should be on making this as boring and uneventful as possible and for me to get home safely

You understand my point but decided to be dribbling us around
Majority of the death by police were result of stray bullets
These assholes can't hit a target not to talk of when in motion
So many things can go wrong with them, they should have radio their colleagues along the road but they chose this route
This is what they can't do with armed robbers or kidnappers, they will run away

In Naija, you know the policeman wants to obtain you. In the US, the policeman may be a KKKLan Dragon trying to meet his own black mortality cases quota.

Even as Optometrist is clearly written on my ID

I attended a military secondary school. I'm extremely wary of anyone in uniform on official duty in Nigeria.

They can kill you stone dead and 90% of the time get away with ZERO consequences.

In 2010 the day Bayern eliminated Man Utd and Robben scored that volley. I was in New Jersey for work and using my phone while driving (which was legal in Texas where I traveled from but illegal in New Jersey)

Na so police light for my back. I stopped and put the phone on speaker for my friend to dey hear.

The police asked me do you know why I stopped you, I said No. He said because you are using phone while driving. I told him I'm from Texas and it's not illegal. I wanted to put hand in my pocket to bring out my wallet and show him my license, the guy shouted thinking maybe I'm reaching for a gun

From there I just decided I'm not going to drag or argue anything, at that point i realized you can be a few wrong move from being in the news. Let me just get home in peace

I just kept quiet accepted everything, he gave me a ticket for like $450 and said I can come to court to contest it. I didn't even bother contesting it. I just paid

of all my numerous encounters with Nigerian police, I've come to conclusions that the best way to engage an armed Nigerian police is too obey and do whatever they ask you whilst trying all possible things to be diplomatic, professional and humble..

Let me burst your bubble, if you threaten a Nigerian police with any legal actions or if you tell them you re tinubu son, they'd harass you and even make it worse for you even thoor they might apologize later if found to be true you re who you said you re .. you re likely to get out of police confrontation with humble and diplomatic soft convo than been rude, arrogant and disobedient..

If you re innocent of crime, be diplomatic and pray they re the good cops that'd leave you after finding nothing on you.
If your guilty or have something on you, be diplomatic and play to their gallery and bargain your bribery with them.
If you re innocent and they re hellbent on extorting you, plead and also bargain your way around them even if it means parting away some money..

If in anyway you feel the need to fight back a police brutality and harassment, make sure you do that after the whole escapade after you must have gained your freedom.

These policemen are sometimes not their selves and they can shoot you for any small possible escalations.. the odds are already against you based on outnumbering and weapon wise..

Dead men tell no tales

One of our Aluta in University on our way home in a bus of like 20 students, na so soldiers stopped us and they started asking where are those students that were threatening to kill soldiers make dem come out and no be joke out of like 6 of them, like 4 were drunk and staggering

They now said we should lineup and nominate 3 people they can kill so they won't kill everyone.
Later they said lie down on concrete road and anyone whose head doesn't touch the tarmac will be the chosen one to be shot
The girls among us were already crying
After like 30mins of their sick games their Oga who spoke better told us to sit on the road, that we should go home peacefully and uniformed men are not people to be played with. On another day they can shoot all of us and nothing will happen

I am certain many innocents have been shot and no one even heard about it

Only God knows how many unclaimed skeletons dey Naija roadsides

So many crimes that they are looking for innocent people to pin it on

around some months ago, police bursted my crib on a raid.. they reach like 10 with their buses..

They knocked on my door, I opened, they said they re police, I said "okay, you re free to enter" come on in"..

They barged in, like 5 of them, asked me what i do for a living, that they received info we don't go to work and that young boys full our crib, I told them I came to Abuja for my visa , showed them my international passport and rejected France application, they searched my room, I jejely gave them my phone and myself opened my laptop 💻 for them, those ones weren't that tech savvy , they just cereeased my phone and laptop knowing no where to go and press, after much, they gave me back my gadgets, while these was going on, I was praising them of the good works they were doing, telling them to have mercy on our gateman who was challenging them outside..

They left my room without arresting me, all other boys in my apartment the raided, they carried all of them, some who challenged them, they dragged them. Those who entered the ceiling, they tear gassed them and arrested them.

I was diplomatic, humble and soft, and then they didn't find anything on me, and lastly and the most importantly, they weren't hell bent on extorting me even thoor I'm innocent, maybe due to my manner of approach to them..

Even when my landlord went to their station with the agent , they made reference to me that they didn't see anything on me hence they didn't arrst me, that all those they arrested was either caught with a thing or two..

This is coming from me who have once had a fraccas with police which ended brutally because I ended up collecting slaps beating and extorted

in my earlier post, I said the ones hellbent on extorting you, after much back and forth of you showing your innocence, if they still persist, na to enter plan b and bargain your way out there.. maybe when you go out, you can come back and make claims with your lawyer or contacts you have if you feel the need to pursue it..

Just take police as mini armed robbers, I won't advise a person to go about challenging an armed policeman even if you re in your right ..

One day I was going home in a bus at night and we were stopped very close to Eleme Junction flyover (for those who know PH well)

The driver didn't see them on time but immediately screeched to a halt when he saw them but despite this, the policeman felt he was, in his own words, 'playing with him' and tear gassed the whole bus.

These guys can be inhuman sometimes.

There's a reason a lot of remote workers, freelancers and gig workers dress up and go out to hubs, fast food spots etc

Na to avoid this tag of 'e no dey comot house, e be Yahoo boy'

A lot of Nigerians are brash, nosy, and inherently ignorant, which is a terrible combination.
