The percentage increment is not linear across board. I assumed same approach when minimum wage was raised from 18 to 30k. But I was shocked to notice the increase almost did not alter my salary, just a difference of about 32k. That's why I don't bother myself. When it comes, I will know how much was increased. The formula for calculation is decided by the accountant general before dispatching the memo to ministries and parastatals.

From ₦30k to ₦70k is 133% (1.33) increment viz:
30k + (1.33x30k) =₦70k

If same %increment is applied across board:
₦150k will now earn:
150k + (1.33x150k) =₦350k

However in reality, same percentage increment will not be applied across board. Higher grades will definitely be less.

So don't be surprised if someone who was previously earning 150k now earns 200k which is 30% increment.

Stop relying on meta AI for mathematical calculations. If you ask META AI the same question again, it will give you a different answer

The calculation doesn't tally, but the ones to enjoy the new minimum wage are junior staff

Imagine your salary was 50k before and minimum wage is #30,000
Now new minimum wage is increased to #70,000

Your new salary is


#70,000 + #20,000 accrued on top of your #30,000 before as a result of promotion and increase in step level

New salary
#70,000 + #20,000
#90,000

Note, this will maintain a law of diminishing returns as higher salary earners salary won't be affected much in the increment

From how i understand these things, only those earning less than 70,000 should be bumped up to 70,000 minimum wage.
