Don't touch unclaimed dividends

Many people are still waiting for letters of administrations which takes years to come out, rather than just 1 week or so

We have been processing since January, and it's still not out.

Don't touch unclaimed dividends.

The Central Bank of Nigeria's directive to banks to transfer funds from dormant accounts and unclaimed dividends is a commendable move.

This initiative ensures that idle funds are effectively managed and possibly redirected for more productive uses, benefitting the broader economy.

Additionally, it provides a mechanism to address the issue of unclaimed financial assets, enhancing transparency and accountability within the financial sector.

Damn....I have not cashed out my dividends since 2001. Despite instructing my stock broker to make payments into my current account.

Next thing i know, the stock broking firm was delisted.

I hope nothing happens to my money because i intend to cash out every kobo next year. CBN should not play any games with our dividends payout. They should leave it with the banks.

As for dormant accounts, some of the owners are dead and corrupt bank officials are devising plans on how to divert the funds as we write.
Most dormant accounts will be activated sharp sharp before the CBN comes to collect. I trust the account officers.

Most banks won't like this move at all but it's best because it would prevent any illegal financial activities on those accounts by the banks and promote more accountability.

You wan kill first bank. First bank and Union bank has the highest dormant accounts and most of the owners are dead and their descendants not aware..

If implemented, it go shake first bank small, maybe they will improve in their customers services.

That's also an easy avenue for them to divert the funds and claim it themselves...

Many banks will use this opportunity to steal people's money and claim its been sent to Apex bank

We re finished in this country
Keeping money in Nigerian banks is faced with a lot of risks ranging from fraud, dormancy, scam, revocation of bank licences and KYC.

This govt is creating unnecessary suffering to Nigerians.

Read the report. If you have funds in dormant account, please go reactivate your dormant bank account now instead of making empty threats online.

Some of the accounts have been dormant for decades and sitting idle in the bank vaults. It makes no difference if it is warehoused with CBN because it doesn't belong to the banks and have been dormant for long.

Btw, FG is not taking away the funds from the owners permanently. The banks should have been repeatedly ensuring that the owners of dormant bank accounts are sensitized to reactivate their accounts but there's nothing the bank can do even of they do so. The real point is that the money is better warehoused with CBN and if the owners need their funds, they go through their banks first to reactivate their bank accounts and get back their funds.

How is that your business ? You have run away inflation ravaging your dead economy, but your kleptomaniac government is looking for citizens money to steal. Surely, one day hand go touch una. On WhatsApp, if a user choose for people not to see your blue ticks, they will also not see the blue ticks of others.

On Nairaland, if a user chooses not be mentioned, they can still mention others.

This is not fair game.

Nigerian financial system is a fraud. Why don't they pay dividend into the bank account of the owners? I provided my bank account when I bought shares then, till date I receive nothing and I have left my former house. My broker is no where to be found and I don't even have my code anymore.

“The CBN shall open and maintain an account earmarked for the purpose of warehousing unclaimed balances in eligible accounts. The account shall be called “Unclaimed Balances Trust Fund (UBTF) Pool Account,” the apex bank said in the document obtained by THE WHISTLER.

For the unclaimed dividend and dormant account balances, the CBN said banks should maintain records of the beneficiaries of the unclaimed balances warehoused in the UBTF Pool Account.

The funds are not permanently taken away from the owners but for keep with the CBN so that banks will not use it for their recapitalisation.

CBN insists that only fresh funds should be used for the bank recapitalisation.

Let the CBN go and use pension funds for such purposes and repay later when it's time for pensioners to collect. Let the FG and CBN put up laws that will encourage politicians and others with stolen public funds to come to their rescue.

The fear is nobody trust any fund in government custody.

Stop blabing rubbish, the CBN and FG what have been their contributions to the citizens. Thats if a person have about 10 million in his account and for some reasons might be in custody of the foreign gov for ten years and gains freedom, knowing he had some funds stacked in his account and returns not finiding it, what will happen, the CBN nd FG should reduce their expense not to take peoples money, democracy in africa is shit, expecially here in the west

Outside The CBN Mandate:
• this Directives,if true,is a bizzare and is Outside the CBN Mandate.
1.Which Law or authority was given to CBN to warehouse those Funds, without the Owners Mandate or do you just collect someone money and claim Ownership, without Consent?
2.Why is it that the Govt is after another People's Funds, afterall, you did not Create it for the Owners?
3.Is this not same we said to PENCON ,Abuja- that they want to Borrow the Retirees Money, which they don't have Authority to do so?
4.Why should you now use the CBN- to Indirectly wants to Corner the Public Money,by calling for Dormant Accounts - because you see it as Avenues to get Cheap Funds?
5.So,if the Family of the Owners, settled and wants their Money, they have to Wait for years,by coming to CBN and their ding- dong- affairs, before they get their Funds?
.Is this not part of the reasons -why People don't want to Bank in Nigeria?
CBN, kindly re-trace your steps!
Please,look elsewhere to get Funds.
