The Lagos State Government has distanced itself from the rumoured upcoming Oro festival scheduled for August 1 to 15, coinciding with the #EndBadGovernance protest.

The government likened it to other religious activities held across the country.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with PUNCH Online, Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the state’s Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said no one questions the government when other religions hold their activities.

He noted that the same respect should be maintained for traditional worshippers because they have the right to worship according to the constitution and can go about their lawful exercises.

“Oro festival is like Muslim and Christian activities and has no business with Lagos State government interference. We don’t have a hand in how any religious group goes about their lawful activities.

“The protesters have their rights just like the traditional worshippers who want to perform their activities too. What is our business in that?” he queried.

We non indigenes support the oro Festival, it's a showcase of rich culture and tradition, and a chance for yorubas to protest alone without the interference of other tribes. Just don't let the masquerades loot shops of burn BRT buses. Well done.

O pari.

Tbh, LASG doesn't fix dates for such events. Let's respect the religious beliefs of others so we can all live at peace with one another.

Great reply from Lagos state gov.

Oro is used in warding off evil away from the land. We all saw the evil destruction that came with endsars.

The protest (now revolt) has been hijacked and named Days of rage, meaning days of violence and uncontrollable anger. We do not want that on our lands.

cheesy cheesy

We should stop acting uncivil and start to respect other peoples tradition

I dont even see anything wrong in a host community trying to do their things their own way

If u have any issue with this, then u arent civil enough to live in a sane society

In the East, Ekpa locks up at home every Monday and even non-indigenes have to comply

Kukutenla:
Who said this?
He should be fired
Army has no business with civil disobedience
He should face bandits, Boko haram and other terrorists ravaging the land
The level of sycophants in this administration is just shocking
Even the army has been politicised and desecrated
Lol. You haven't heard of the US national guard. They are very good with establishing and maintaining curfews.

It's funny how the "oro" is coming now.
How come they didn't say it at the beginning of the year just like the known Muslim and Christian celebration such as (Eid and Xmas)

This simply means one thing government is scared.

Step out and let protest our grievances.

I will be giving out small refreshments for those in Alimosho interested in the protest.

It is abysmal and bizzare to fix Oro on the days of protest. Same happened during the last election when Oro was fixed on election day to prevent electorates from voting. Our leaders are the cause of anarchy in this country, if the country is working fine who will call for protest. Let them sit up tight and put things in the right place and they will see how things will work fine in the country.

Lol the pettiness of APC is also petty. Damn!!! Left for me, this protest is not necessary because it won't work. The best time was during election but some people wanted to teach igbos some lessons. grin grin grin grin

Tinubu is a druglord and he sees the masses as trash, so the suffering is just starting. He will reproduce lekki tollgate in the coming days.

Only God can remove that bastard of a president

All I know is that ANY IGBO that calls for protest or joins the protest is a BAS...RD, according to Igbos, "no Igbos should be a part of this protest in any way", unless you are a bas......rd.
