OPINION : Four Reasons You Should Think Before Joining The Nationwide Protest

By Wisdom Nwedene

Ahead of the planned nationwide protest scheduled to kick off on August 1st, 2024, I strongly believe that Nigerian Youth should think twice before joining the protest.

Though, there are genuine reasons for the protest but I have four strong reasons which made me to believe that this protest is not in the best interest of the country at the moment.

Below are my reasons

1. The organisers Of The Protest Are Faceless Individuals : It's crystal clear that those organising this protest are not known till now. I recommend that this type of protest should have leaders that should be calling the shots in case things go wrong. In a protest where everyone is a leader, many things can happen. The organisers should be at the forefront, leading the protesters and controlling the crowd so that things won't go wrong.

2. Thugs Can Hijack The Protest: It's very difficult to organise a peaceful protest in a country battling with bandits, criminals, hoodlums and expect things to go fine.

3. It's Still Early To Judge Tinubu’s Government : I still believe that it's too early to judge Tinubu’s Administration by leading this type of heavy protest against him. Despite that his policies are too harsh, Tinubu still needs time to address issues and bad policies of previous administrations.

4 All of us can still remember what happened during the EndSARS protest. Many lives were lost and property worth billions of Naira destroyed. How sure are we that this Nationwide won't degenerate to what happened during EndSARS protest? I think we should think twice. We can't afford to lose more lives and our national assets destroyed again just like what is happening in Kenya.

My own personal reasons why u shouldn't join protest are
1. Other countries facing hardship are not led by APC government
2. The hardship is a global issue
3. Confirm if the hardship is in Kenya Bangladesh sudan lybia us uk before joining
4. He just upgraded minimum wage and yet it's just too early .
5. If you die during protest doesn't mean Nigerians will not eat and drink garri.
Those that died during endears is gone forever

6. Join protest at your own risk
7. Army gave warnings not to join because if u do what happened in 20th August endears might repeat itself .
8. When coronal virus dey na worldwide.
Even ebola , even monkey bus , even lockdown na worldwide issues now that there is global inflation so u want Nigeria not to be affect ?

U are joking .

Subsidy removal or not 🚫
There is a global inflation crises .
Please confirm if you have people in other countries including the so called UK US euro asian etc .

Abeg use that same protest energy to start farm at your backyard Biko ☹️

You guys are only pained that the igbos saw through your failed antics to rope the igbos in,even when they were the first to say they are not interested in any protest…. You y left the north that wrote letter to the IG seeking permission and security for their protest to start shouting igbos protest everywhere!!

Was it only in Lagos destruction of properties happened during endsars?
Is Lagos the only place protests has been happening? The one tinubu and buhari did prior 2014,was it in Lagos?
Why must you guys see everything as an attack against Yorubas!!

Is Nairaland now a Government operated anti protest website?
What's happening here, while I don't give a damn about any protest but pushing thread after thread against peaceful protests shows grotesque bias by the Mods and owners of this site.
How much did Bayo Onanuga pay to promote the kind of threads I have been seeing on FP?

Thanks for your concern but true change doesn't come from ease and comfort. Let anything happen, our children will be glad we stood for something rather be cowards.

This people self. Omoyele sowore. A Yoruba man started the hashtag revolutionnow, called for the protest, pushing and promoting it openly. He's got no queries, arrested or being attacked. Because he's not igbo man. Rather one buffon on govt coffers said it's peter obi and obedients. everybody is shouting faceless sponsors. Sowore no get head and face?.

Hypocrites and tribalistic animals has turn the other way around and be foaming in their mouths.

Only this people knows the evil they've done to Nigerians that made a protest to sound and look like a war. Their conscience is right and everybody knows. Yes the protest would be hijacked and the worst could happen. It's inevitable, when Nigerians were begging this people to calm down on anti people policies and evil and wicked governance they closed there ears. The evil day has come upon us. Let the country burn

You want to tell a poor and hopeless man not to protest ni. Since you refused to act on time as a responsible govt, the poor masses are waiting and have seen the right trigger to atleast loot any warehouse or shop to see food chop. They can't die two times. Frustration poverty nd hunger everywhere and you expect them to keep calm. Go to Lagos, all the chanties are being destroyed adding to their misery, all those touts are waiting for this protest to hold anything they can lay their hands on.. since the govt is not responsible enough to control things timely. The dark days are fast coming, these people are not even online and don't fear any thing again They're down already.

Na the APc supporters go first begin the protest cos karma seems to be making their sufferness more than other in silent ways.

There should be protest....

But let all of us return to our respective states to protest and call our state governors to order....

The hardship is across the nation and not in cities like Abuja and Lagos alone.....

U also have a point but u don't need to discourage people from going to protest.

What I think u should do is to suggest on what to do so as to make the protest a peaceful one.

The policy of this present administration is too harsh on any living things residing in Nigeria hence the need for us to protest.

Those impish sons of deranged dogs we have in power can never see beyond their flat noses as far as the welfare of the masses is involved.
Like animals, they bully their way into power with the purpose of enriching themselves at the expense of the masses
Like animals they bully anyone who's opinion is contrary to theirs .
Like their fathers all they know is bully, bully -and even kill the masses- to submission.
Dialogue is an alien concept to them.
