something is amiss here. Same story existed in Yoruba land long ago, even 'gwo gwo gwo ngwo' sounds like 'ogo lugo'. The former makes no sense but the latter fits the narrative of the story. My opinion is that the singer got the story from Yoruba land but sang the ibo version. Respect to the actual source

Na wa o! Sewer rats running all over the place! Nairaland used to be a place where intellectuals gathered to discuss enlightening and deep issues. Even the worst of us in the early days make the best of today look like dunces! 🤦🏾‍♂️

Haaaa. Low self esteem will kill this SW tribe. Always trying to steal everything Igbo has.
Stole houses.
Stole food.
Stole lands. Edo owns Lagos.
Stole Nigerian election.
Stole Donald Duke childhood picture.
Stole people's skull for rituals.
Even steals from the graves.
Now stealing Igbo songs.

Land of thieves and low esteem mothafuckers

I have questions

1. How come the elephant didn't know that the Kings daughter required an elephant as bride price
2. How did the King or anyone think they can hold an elephant by a rope? I've seen an elephant in kano zoo eating a whole branch of tree 🌳. So who could hold a big elephant by the rope
3. Why does the story not tell us the dearest wishes of the Kings other children. Why does it focus on only the greedy daughter
4. So what now happened? The tortoise married a Kings daughter? Haba nao.... tortis oooo.... married a human being because she felt it Is rich? Are you saying a female human being will marry a monkey if it brings a rolce Royce?

No you got it wrong the moral is on the Elephant don't allow anyone to use your head to achieve his goal.

Addendum; The King's daughter has been constantly rejecting marriage suitors, which is the main reason for the meeting

Inferiority complex.
We know the people that "grab, snatch and run away".
Next month now they will try to recreate a song to rival Mike Ejeagha.

Fuvk these folklores, you can imagine we used to believe they happened when we were young.

Unfortunately we have realized that the tortoise has all along been a dull, slow and unwise animal.

Well then we enjoyed those stories because there were no TVs or social media grin

Gwo gwo gwo gwom made sense to an igbo man not to you. That you don't understand it or that the writer didn't expound on it does not mean it was borrowed.
Why can't you guys just resist the urge of this "my car is bigger than yours" syndrome. It's beginning to look silly

Emperormartin:
There were many folklores in igboland...

These kind of folklores groomed the kind of story writers we later have to become recognized international standards.

Powerful story writers like Chinua Achebe, Cyprian ekwensi, Christopher okigbo, chimamanda Adichie, Buchi emecheta, Flora nwapa, Elechi Amadi et al were all groomed by these kind of folktales being told by there parents and grandparents and thus they became international acclaimed writers.

Mike ejeagha only carved his niche of the same folklore stories through his music.

Sadly, the folklore stories is eroding fastly in Igboland as cartoons and other children online programs has replaced it...

No wonder we now produce Dancers, musicians and actors at the expense of Story writers we were once acknowledged with

The folklorists also existed in literature. Example; the author of the Igbo book Omenuko, wrote that book many years before anybody heard of Chinua Achebe. And so did many authors write in Yourubaland before anybody heard of Wole Soyinka.

It was the "Powerful story writers like Chinua Achebe, Cyprian ekwensi, Christopher okigbo, chimamanda Adichie, Buchi emecheta, Flora nwapa, Elechi Amadi" that actually bastardized the tradition by adoption of an unnatural language to tell an African story.

Just listen to that Mike Ejeagha song, for example, and you'll hear certain things he said which can only be truly understood as an Igbo man or woman.

Be rest assured that these "powerful writers" have no place in future. Their works would not stand the test of time because it's not rooted in culture, therefore, culture would not carry them along in same way as Mike Ejeagha.

There were many authors writing before William Shakespeare in England but you don't hear about them today, except in a historical mention by academics. Why? Because their works were not rooted in English culture, therefore, they were forgotten. They wrote in Greek, French, Latin and when England went back to their native Angles language, they became forgotten.

I can bet you my life that Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and co would be forgotten. Culture won't carry them along like Mike Ejeagha.

Story Well told..

Lessons Learnt..

According to Rufai-Oseni of Arise-TV,, this is what our politicians do to us every election year..

The Elephant is “The Masses”..
The small tortoise is “The Politicians”..

This is how the politicians craftily deceive the masses every election cycle, and grab their goodies, and leave the masses confused and emptier.

Did rufai actually say this? Crazy fella cheesy

But his analogy fits the description though.

No frsk of that happening
Yoruba are trend setters in culture simple truth
Not everything is stronghead
Rival Ejeagha? You are getting carried away
When it comes to music there is no competition not to talk of rivalry
As far as music in Nigeria goes Ibos are not even in second place?
Unfortunately the language is harsh and painful on the ears of nonIbos
