Making Sense Of The Impending #endbadgovernance# Protests by ivandragon: 6:48am On Jul 28
The impending #endbadgovernance# protests is supposedly a reaction to the worsening economic and social situation of most Nigerians under the APC administration, especially the rising cost of living, significantly reduced purchasing power and uncoordinated efforts to stem insecurity.

The government’s response, or otherwise, to the state of the country is a major concern for right thinking citizens. But despite cries of the masses, especially over the last one year, about how terrible things have become, the government has been paying lipservice to issues and developed a very Arrogant posture.

The government has also been aggressive towards anyone criticising them and encourages ethnic racism to create division.

The government itself, while preaching sacrifice, continues to indulge in frivolities and excesses without regard to the feelings of the masses.

Things have gotten to a point where the masses are reacting to government’s insentivity and ill-thought out policies by proposing an #endbadgovernance# protests.

However, as much as the citizens are within thier constitutional rights to protest bad governance, caution must be taken not to go overboard in both action and demands.

Already, the government has positioned itself to use both violence and mockery to destabilise the protests and care must be taken not to fall into thier hands for those wishing to protests.

To this end, it is vital that the demands of the protesters be realistic, implementable and objective. Also, the protesters should not be aggressive in any way.

1. The protesters should have clear start & end points with clearly mapped out routes. On no account should Nigerians not joining the protests be obstructed or harassed. As you have a right to protests, so do others have a right not to join the protests.

2. The police should be duly informed of these routes.

3. Protests should start during the day time and disperse when it is still visible. No overnight things.

4. The protesters should ensure everything is videoed. From start to finish.

5. Create good banter with the security operatives, note names and designations of senior officer who can be liaised with.

6. The protests should terminate at the government Houses of each state with demands peacefully presented to each governor or representative.

On the demands themselves,

7. Demands should be split into two. One for the president to address national issues and another for governor to address issues peculiar to the state. There should be no mix up of demands.

7a. State demands can include things like getting commitment for immediate payment of the new minimum wage, payment of arrears of salaries and pensions within 2 months, openness & reduction in government spending, fixing of inter state roads etc.

7b. Federal demands can include reduction in fuel prices until refineries are fixed and functional, improving security so people can go back to farms, reducing cost of governance at the top, all political office holders to earn minimum wage until the economy improves etc.

For the protests to be effective, the demands must be achievable and measurable, or else, it would just be a mockery of the masses.

Politicians are not scared of protest, they scared the protesters getting a fair chance to partake of the ongoing looting spree. Stealing and looting for 10 straight days.

That is your choice.

Allow those who want to protest to do so.

But they must do so peacefully and reasonably.

Lol.

Karma is indeed a female dog.

However, protests should be peaceful and reasonable.
