Arewa Youth Assembly has urged Dangote Refinery’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Aliko Dangote, to comply with guidelines and standards of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited as the country’s regulatory body for the oil and gas industry.

The speaker of the Assembly, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, said it would be selfish for Dangote to expect the NNPCL to bend the regulations to serve them.

Dangote and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, alongside the NNPCL, have been embroiled in a dispute recently, ranging from monopoly allegations to crude oil supply for the refinery, substandard fuel imports, and ownership of blending plants in Malta.

However, Danlami said before establishing the Aliko Dangote refinery, the NNPCL, NUPRC, and NMDPRA existed to carry out their duties as regulatory bodies.

He said Dangote should understand that these are sectors dealing with regulations.

“Therefore, the bodies expect him to abide by the rules and nothing more. Even the Dangote Group has rules and regulations that all stakeholders must adhere to.

“It is surprising that Aliko Dangote, as a businessman, has forgotten that competition is inevitable in business.

“Our findings show that he wants NMDPRA not to license anyone else to bring in products. They said no! He blackmails them and is trying to incite Nigerians against NMDPRA, claiming they are giving licenses to marketers who bring in substandard products into the country.

“We are calling on the National Assembly to make public the laboratory results from his own refinery because information we are getting from different sources indicates that the products are substandard.

“We know Mr. Dangote has been operating all his life in an industry without regulation, but the oil and energy industry has rules and regulations,” he said.

Dangote refinery must not be allowed to fail. Government should support the business to our own advantage.

NNPC can allocate 300,000 barrels to him solely for refining and sales in the Nigerian Market at a reasonable price. They should sell the crude to him in Naira.

Then he can buy the difference from abroad or IOCs here in dollars, refine and export to other countries and make good money too.

It's a win-win for everyone.

Dangote himself should know he can't get the full 650,000 barrels per day locally. Previous and current administrations have already used most of what we currently produce to take foreign loans with little or nothing to show for it. And we have to fulfil those obligations. That's the sad reality of things.

There's sure competition is every business but it's bad to speak ill of another person's source of income because you need yours to be held in high regards and higher patronage.

Toh

The table is turning around.

Anyone who thinks Dangote can win against government don't know how politics works.

There are so many business men in Nigeria that the privileged given to Dangote can be shared amongst.

We don't have to go that line, let both Dangote and FG settle their scores amicably

I don't really understand what's going on with dangote and FG. But I notice dangote wants everything to go smoothly like it has always been.

Shey Dangote don dey produce and sell locally made diesel for more than 3 months now. Did it change anything in the economy? Did the price of diesel go down?

We didn't have refinery here for years, yet we've been exporting crude oil. Then, we've been importing refined oil. How insane!

Now, Dangote blazed the trail and built a refinery, before people start crawling out from their holes to talk nonsense. Arewa or not, I don't care because you sound paid to do this.

No matter the monopoly, Dangote refinery needs to be encouraged. It will provide many employments and business opportunities to Nigerians. It will attract foreign talents. Above all, it will help to make various crude by-products cheaper in the country.

The only thing the Government needs to do about it is to regulate it using extant laws. Meanwhile, how true is this allegation that the Tinubu family owns Oando and that Oando has acquired AGIP which was used to sell up to $2 billion worth of fuel to Nigeria in 2023 alone?

Let’s not overcomplicate things.

Arewa Youth should chill. Dangote knows the game and is already playing it right.

Compliance is key, but let’s not act like he’s not already on top of his business.

We should be supporting our own rather than throwing unnecessary shade.

Let this refinery work Goddamn it! Some things can NEVER make sense, no matter how they try to twist it.

When it was Dangote alone, we were on the side of making Nigerian refineries work as a competition to Dangote. If he could do it, Nigeria can do it.

Never did we imagine the country intends to use importers as the competition..that's plain dumb. We have crude oil in Nigeria. We have four dud national refineries that could be pulled down and rebuilt or privatised! A dollar is #1500 and climbing!

Why the hell would a local refinery be discouraged over stupid power tussle? Our leaders should learn to keep their eyes on the ball, please. Allow Dangote be and keep pressure on making our refineries or other local refineries work. Dangote alone cannot meet our fuel needs.

Where has this Arewa group been for the many years Nigeria has been importing fuel? Where has this group been when their few greedy hawks and brothers been holding this country hostage, destroyed our refineries and led them prostate. These thieves should stop insulting the sensibility of Nigerians. This is obviously a Stupid sponsored group paid by cabals who don't mean well for Nigeria. These are thieves siphoning our foreign exchange and destroying our economy in the name of fuel subsidy. Which useless regulation by agencies that don't even have laboratories?

Northerners love themselves in the mud.

Which media platform in Nigeria is ready to do the investigation by testing NNPC products and Dangote products? They are sitting, waiting for copy and paste.

They've started shipping money to them to speak this way. They are experts in this kind of business.

You want to avoid monopoly but you don't have any other local refinery producing products.

So from where do you want to bring the products to compete with Dangote? Of course we know what we know.

Another Olodo has been let lose ....he should allow them to import Poverty so you can continue shouting Ebilokan ba... Oga go to the Farm, if you finish farming tell Federal Government to import your farm products at a cheaper rate. Abi you don't know you are putting pressure on FX when everyone keep importing. Alhaji trying to go into steel is to encourage more investment in Skyscraper and change Lagos from a Horizontal city to a vertical one as well as other cosmopolitan cities across Africa and reduce all this blockage of water channel due to scarcity of land. Any small thing Monopoly as if your electricity Discos are not the biggest monopolies.

I have repeatedly stated, and will continue to emphasize, that Aliko Dangote is a serial monopolist. His profits serve more of his own interests, than those of Nigerians.

He planned to complete his refinery during President Buhari’s tenure, anticipating unrestricted crude allocations and funding from CBN Governor Emefiele. Now that he is required to adhere to regulations, he is reacting poorly.

It is unreasonable for Dangote to demand control of the market without having produced a single drop of petrol. In more regulated environments, a new refinery would be required to operate for at least 12 months before being eligible to bid for government supply contracts. Additionally, the quality of its products would undergo rigorous laboratory testing.

Yet, Dangote, with no prior experience in the oil and gas sector, expects to be handed control of the NNPC overnight. This expectation is both unrealistic and unfair.

Ghana must go bags must be moving around now. SMH!
FG/NNPC and Dangote are fighting for their own selfish purposes. Non of them have the interest of Nigerians at heart.

The fight is for who would get wealthier, and the whole essence of wealth is to enslave others... Nigerians....
Re: Comply With NNPCL Regulations, Arewa Youth Urges Dangote Refinery by Berankis: 7:23am On Jul 29
With all your rules and regulations and all your agencies still, all the Nigeria refineries have been crippled and you import fuel into the country.
These guys are the problem of Nigeria. Dangote built a refinery in Nigeria with 25B dollars (or whatever the amount), let him have some leverage on this one.
Don't continue to empower the outside countries. Nigerians are working in this refinery and it is here. Give him crude oil to refine and stop sabotaging him.
These are the same guys/agencies that put us in Subsidy crises today and they are still there to continue to imprison us.
These are also some of the people that should be protested against i.e. NNPCL, NUPRC, NMDPR, all of them.
