You earlier explained a scenario where let's say the applicant leaves Canada after extending his visitor visa to visitor record and then reapplies for visitor visa outside Canada...you said siuch extension to visitor record could be a trust issue for earning visitor visa . What about if the visitor record (extendion) is still valid in Canada and the spouse of the student wants to convert to SOWP with spouse PGWP and full time offer, how can an ongoing extension be a blocker for incountry applicantion for SOWP in this case if they have requested extension via visitor record? Pls enlighten us.

House34:

If your spouse is not a master’s or PhD student, you will only get a visitor visa. However, your daughter can get a visitor record inside Canada that will allow her to stay based on the duration of your spouse’s study permit. you can only stay for a maximum of six months on a visitor visa. You can extend it, but you cannot work, so be careful. Staying 6 month and unnecceary extension might affect your chances of getting a one or three-year open work permit when your spouse qualifies for a PGWP, depending on the length of studies after completing the program. Plan ahead on how to get a SOWP when your spouse graduates and tell ur spouse to start considering the PR route now.

Extending could be an issue if, after spending one year in Canada, you depart and suddenly return within a short period, even if your visa is still valid. I understand your question, but most of those loopholes are being blocked by IRCC. What people do is, after completing a course, they flagpole at the land border to get a PGWP instantly, and the husband gets an SOWP if the wife has a valid job offer. However, that option is now closed as PGWP via flagpoling has been stopped. Additionally, any other category of flagpoling is now done only at selected border crossings, unlike in the past when you could go to any border crossing. This means you have to apply inside Canada online and wait up to 3 to 6 months as the processing time could change. During this period, the main applicant is allowed to work pending the outcome of the PGWP, but the spouse cannot apply for an SOWP until the PGWP in approved .

So, imagine a guy arrives in Canada with his wife, a student on a 1-year diploma course, and he arrives on a visitor visa. After 6 months, he manages to extend his stay, which is not guaranteed but at the discretion of the IRCC officer. Let's assume he is successful and gets another 6 months, making it one year. Then, the wife graduates, applies for a PGWP, and is waiting for the PGWP. What will happen to the guy after one year when his wife's PGWP is not ready yet.
Again, I advise anybody coming to Canada as a student to think beyond that one-year course. You can only get a PGWP once, and after one year, if you are not nominated for PR or cannot get an LMIA, then that's the end. This is part of the issue many students are currently facing after a 1-year PGWP. What most students are doing now is either going for a master's or another one-year diploma program, which is not cheap, especially with the current job situation in Canada. IRCC noticed many students are changing schools, so they announced a new rule to change courses or schools inside Canada; you have to apply for a new visa, unlike in the past where you just notified IRCC of the change in writing without needing to apply for a new visa. All these changes are coming into effect soon. I wish all the students good luck; it really is not as easy as people at home think, being an international student in Canada.
Sometimes, the law could be interpreted differently depending on the officer. I know a guy last year who arrived with a visitor visa and whose wife was a diploma student. At that time, the spouse of a diploma student was still entitled to an SOWP. However, the officer he met asked him why most people do not apply for an SOWP in their home country but come to Canada on a visitor visa and rush to the land border for an SOWP. The officer asked the guy what he told them at the airport when questioned, and the guy said he was visiting his wife. The officer refused his request and told him to go back to Nigeria and apply for an SOWP. Someone suggested he change his border entry and go to another entry point. He wasted a lot of money flying to another province, but the initial officer had already made a note on his file. When he arrived at another land border, the officer asked him only one question: "You applied last week and were refused and told to go home, but why are you here again" The officer asked for a copy of his return ticket, which he provided. The officer stamped his passport with a date just three weeks away, matching the date on his return ticket, and told him that if he did not depart Canada on or before that date, he would be illegal.

You didn't need to liquidate the monies in your money market investment. Just obtain an investment letter from the company addressed to the Canadian Embassy.

I did same when i applied for our Visa

You can use either of the two, but the new portal is less paperwork compared to using the GcKey.

I forgot to write my email on the data page but I wrote on a white sheet of paper. My question is when did dhl called u to come pick up the return document? a day after? or when?

A cousin is the child of your aunt or uncle. In other words, your cousin is the son or daughter of one of your parent's siblings. Even if you don't have photos, gather other documents to support your application. You can also draw a family tree in your letter of support (a family tree is a simple diagram of how you are related). Ask your cousin to write an invitation letter including her birth certificate ,Pr card or passport if a citizen. The letter should include her contact information, details about your visit, and a statement about your relationship.

Thank you so much

Jeboy:
Draw a family tree and indicate cousin relationship where maiden surnames could be the same or current surname.

Add proof of the above along stuffs like birth certificate and acceptable IDs.

Your cousin can also write a letter to IRCC on your behalf

Thank you

You need to be patient with the long process (6months) as I am also in your WhatsApp group.

Hope you attached all your biz/job that supports home ties.? Hope u had good balance on your account statement? Hope u shared assets that showed you are established in your home country? Hope u shared her accommodation contract that shows where you ll be staying when you visit her and Hope you made her send a letter of invitation to IRCC showing consent and your approval to visit.?

I would also love to know the reasons you were denied SOWP just to see if those reasons have been treated and not a threat to your visit to your madam.

Thanks for the feedback we were both denied together at first due to proof of fund , after that i tidied the POF and reapply for only her and my daughter and it was successful. All above mentioned was submitted, a notary lawyer even stamped the application my wife submitted. Over 25k USD submitted.

Try study route for Masters for her if u re capable. It means 27k CAD living expenses for both of you plus school fees averagely above 30k CAD. That will give her SP and you SOWP for the period of study and then after study 3yrs PGWP for her and 3 yrs SOWP for you. This is if she has BSc and 2.1 which most uni in Canada requires.

Get someone who can give you good guidance on documentstion, it's not just about having d money

Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well.

I recently submitted a visit visa application. I made an error when completing the form - "Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257)". I selected my country of citizenship as Niger instead of Nigeria. I noticed this mistake on my biometrics letter after submitting my application.

I have reached out to the support team twice about this but haven’t received any feedback yet. A friend mentioned that I can proceed to book my appointment. Do you think I should proceed with booking or wait for a response from them?

Thank you.
