If you don’t watch them, how do you know they’re not good enough?

You won’t know a youth player is ready until he trains with the first team. And if he impresses, a good coach will give him minutes to test him and see if he’s the real deal.

Mainoo is miles ahead of McTominay but if ETH didn’t give him any chance, waiting for “when he’s ready”, his talent would just be wasting away at U18. Same with Garnacho , Yamal, Nico Williams, and even Mbappe, who Madrid just bought at a great price.

If you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
You see this bolded ehn speaks alot
Wengay gave iwobi, willock, nelson and nketiah opportunity
Ebening gave saka and ESR
If these 2 didn't give these guys opportunity there won't be nketiah, saka, nelson and ESR we are about to have a profit of 34m on
Funny enough our highest sales comes from academy products
That free money Chelsea got for omari pain me because if arteta have considered the boy a little then loan him and sell after
We won't have issue with it because he is generating income but Baba will rather spend huge look at maquinhos he went to buy that guy is not even better than duberry that left for Brighton
Same with awilo that's not better than patino or azeez
He wasted money and still wasted our youngsters time

I don’t think you follow your academy at all.

You said Chido Obi should go to Under-18 to make a case that he is better than that level.

Bro, the guy scored 32 goals in 20 Under-18 premier League games last season!
There is nothing left for him to prove at Under-18.

What he needs is regular Under-21 mins and the training with the first team. He can join the Under-18s for FA Youth Cup and the Under-19s for UEFA Youth League.

It seems many people here think Chido scored all those goals last season for the Under-16s. No, he scored them for the Under-18s, as a 16yr old.

Doc, local man is weak and tired of explaining…

You said Chido Obi should go to Under-18 to make a case that he is better than that level. Also you mentioned somewhere that moving him to Under-21 would be a double promotion. No it would not.
He already played Under-18 last season.

The last 3 months of the season only 4 or 5 clubs scored more goals than him. He won’t get better playing Under-18 as he found it so easy that even with his mistakes he was still bullying everybody.

You sure you followed the argument? Your post here should be directed at the person who made the blunder first.

Guaranteed U21 appearances, promised training with the first team.

My point is this: Should an academy player have to ask for this, especially if they are this coveted?

If you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
He is 16!
Were you aware he has been invited to train with the first team before? That should show his talent is being appreciated. What else should they guarantee him? A starting shirt? A place on the first team bench? In a club that's chasing trophies? Look at Ethan Nwaneri and Lewis, these two guys have been patient enough to develop their games and now just see how they have performed so far in pre season. Even the Man Utd hr is going, is there a clearer pathway? They have Hojlund and Zirkzee as their CF and both players are still young.

Heard Arsenal offered him 15k per weeks, he agreed and was waiting to sign when he turns 17 until United came with 30k. All the best to him.

Lol, I watched a clip of that bolded. Arteta was just smiling and telling him "yes it's real, it's real" grin grin

But honestly, I don talk am for here say Arteta get sweet mouth and he knows how to get through people. I read the board was against signing calafiori since we have defenders but he mapped out reason why Cala would be very good in elevating us and las las, they all agreed to it. I remember always watching his pressers even that our bad run of form in his early years and when is done, I'll just be optimistic about our next game even though I was served with rubbish play cheesy cheesy.

Say what you might but the guy is a very good man team bonding manager even though he's very strict. He also have his ways with the right words wella grin grin
Yea... to think he started his managerial career with us. He is a natural. grin
Make he sweet talk trophies into coming to the Emirates this season sha.

Make winger sha land. We need am for league and another midfielder with UCL nights aura.
Winger? You get like 3 already now and 4 if you add Jesus.

Now, let me ask you this. You're criticising Arteta on top this academy matter moment ago. Same you posted we needed at least 2 midfielders. Now what should we do with Ethan? How will Ethan get to play if we sign two midfielders in addition to the 5 we have?

There is no guarantee that the boy would be a star but asking him to go back to play mainly with Under-18s after what he did to them last season is a slap in the face. He needs to be challenged at a higher level rather than the ugly things i saw him do to players 2 years older than him last season.

Move him to Under-21s and let us see if he is really good or if he was just using size and advanced physical development to bully the Under-18s.

The person i quoted was asking Chido Obi to go and prove himself at the Under-18s first. I was just clarifying that he has already done that.

Nobody knows if he will make it at the senior level but asking him to play mainly with Under-18s this season would be a waste of everybody's time. The guy would be a year bigger and stronger, and last year he was already moving Under-18 defenders 2years older than him away like LAWMA.

The only way to challenge him and properly assess him is to play him mainly at Under-21s and let him train with the senior players. He can join the Under-18s for important knockout matches.

Arsenal is the only big club losing their best talents like this. Cozier-Duberry, Walters, Hutchinson, Obi Martin. There has to be a reason.

He’s 16 and so what? How old is Yamal? How old was Mbappe when he tore Man City to shreds for Monaco? You think those talents would be able to shine if they were repressed and forced to remain at the lower level?

The logical decision is to give him harder tests and see how he copes with it.

I don't need to watch him regularly to conclude if he is good or not. I simply need to trust the judgement of his managers at the academy who know him better than all of us. If they believe he is not ready for that promotion, then he is probably not.

At least boost their confidence, especially when you know that when time for selling comes, you'll need those funds. Is it any surprise that they bid so low for many of these talents? Currently Nketiah is on 20m bid from Marseille. He's played 1st team even if I'm not a fav. But that's money now.

At least for the sake of raking in funds. These things are not rocket science nowww. Chei.

Well now that you've admitted that you don't even watch them, it becomes totally clear now. I case my rest

@obaigwe1

I totally agree with you on this. 100%.

Chido was given all assurances that he will get all these, but he and his family know what is best for them, so I wish him good luck.

How about naming players who made their debut at 16 and faded away too? Where did Gedion Zelalem ended up? Miguel Azeez? Patino we had so much hope on couldn't cut it on loan. You guys are always so quick to mention Yamal and Mbappe anytime arguments like this comes up. It is a two-way thing. The surest means is to gradually introduce these kids to senior football.

Saka, Yamal, Mainoo, Quansah got their chances due to an emergency situation and they were able to cope. If moving Obi to the U21s and an occasional training with the first team is not enough, make he dey go.

Merino coming in so no chance for Ethan Nwaneri. He could as well be gone in a year time.

Arsenal have not given academy products enough opportunities in the past few years. Even City and Liverpool that have been competing for titles have done much more for their youth players, so one can’t use the excuse of trying to win.

Over time it would discourage youth players from believing in any project the club is selling them, and they will jump ship as soon as they have the opportunity. That stat about minutes given to Arsenal teenagers is not a good read for the boys in your academy.

This is so bewildering I don’t know how to reply. You didn’t bother to spot potential world beaters in your club and leave it to the U21 coaches and co. As if you don’t know that coaches might be biased and acting according to instructions from above.

Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah and ESR were already in the team when Arteta took over. Our squad had the lowest average age in the EPL then. How do you all expect the managers to be promoting academy players when he is trying to get us to compete again? Explain how you expect us to compete with the like of City and Liverpool by fielding a 16-year old kid as striker?

We all complained Wenger didn't spend money on quality players. Instead, he chose to promote kids. Where did we end up with that?
Now we're spending and improving the squad and still complaining Arteta doesn't promote players.

The time will come to promote players. Everybody should chill. Any academy boys that can't wait for his time is free to leave.

It’s better to give a promising talent an opportunity to shine and they fail than not to give them that opportunity at all. What’s the downside?

Obi wasn’t even guaranteed U21 minutes. This is like a brilliant student repeating primary 4 after finishing top of the class the previous year. Isn’t that stagnation?

If the same Obi turns into a world beater now, hope you won’t be among those lamenting that Arsenal allowed him to go too easily.

Seriously? You're suggesting a trial and error now. A lot of downside are involved. The better option is to gradually groom and introduce them.

As for your second paragraph, you're the first to report here that he was promised U21 football and now you're saying something else. How come?

Those who lament know themselves now. They said the samr thing about Walters, Hutchinson and even Patino. Na here we dey.
