Nvestor02:You said there is an increase of 41% in allocation. Definitely the increase is coming from the removed subsidy. That increase represents what was largely unaccounted hitherto and embezelled by rent seekers. Left to me let subsidy remain removed but we need to demand more accountability from our politicians. Allowances of senators and ministers must be curtailed. No more secrecy in what they earn as allowance. How can less than 500 people be budgeting #344B for themselves. This is acceptable. Tinubu is paying subsidy. A blind man knows that. Landing cost is over N1000/litre, yet we get fuel for between 670-900 at stations. So who is taking care of the differential?? The problem now is there is no explicit budget line for subsidy which makes it murky. Because the obvious question will be where is the money coming from? Who is paying and who is receiving??

All I had was billions given out but no one can say I know a or b who collected these billions. I heard 600k business benefited from govt and another 400k to benefit. Pls where are these 1million business that are neither employing people or reducing prices. Finally so many youth programmes that are not even advertised for the youth. With all this your Analysis, now can you tell us where: 1. The government has come to tell the general public how much they've generated so far from the removal of subsidies and how they're using the money for the benefits of the Nigerians? 2. The frivolous spending of the Mr President, from acquiring SUVS for all the law makers to using #21billion naira to build vice president's lodge etcetera, of what benefits are all of this to the ordinary citizens of the Nation 3. Removal of Subsidy on the Electricity tariff, which has increased the burden of the Nigerians, where are the money going to. 4. Despite all of this Policy of their so called "Renewed Hope" How much do we have in the federal government treasury account. 5. You saying the past administration did great deservice to the Nation, who brought "General Muhammadu Buhari and Ask the Nigerians to vote him, saying PDP is a failure? 6. Mr President is in Nigeria for the entire 8 years of Buhari in office, and the president is his close friend. If he truly possess the solution he's claiming he has, why can't he give it to Buhari and save us from this mess for the past 8 years before even becoming president himself 7. MR. 11th January, 2012 Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader and former governor of Lagos State, has accused the Jonathan presidency of betraying its social contract with the people by suddenly removing fuel subsidy. He, however, provided a window out of the crisis: if subsidy must be removed at all, it must never be at one fell swoop. Rather it must be on calibrated phrases, on which the promised gains are measured and confirmed before moving to the next phase of removal. “Government must modify the sudden and complete removal of the subsidy. Either we restore the subsidy or use the funds for other social purposes,” Asiwaju Tinubu counselled in a special release he captioned, ‘Removal of oil subsidy – President Jonathan breaks social contract with the people’ and which he personally signed. “If we are to use the funds for other programmes, these programmes shall be placed on parallel track with the subsidy. As more of these programmes are ready to go on line, then the subsidy can be lifted in phases” he continued. “In this way, the public is assured government will not lower its total expenditure on their behalf, thus maintaining the spirit central to the social contract.” But the former governor cautioned the federal government against economic policies that tend to balance the books at the detriment of the people’s welfare. “As there is progressive politics, there is progressive economics. As there is elitist politics, there is elitist economics,” Asiwaju Tinubu explained. “It all depends on what and who in society government would rather favour. The Jonathan tax,” he declared, “represents a new standard in elitism.” But the ACN national leader cautioned the president against being captive to economic orthodoxy and its local purveyors, who always look at the Nigerian economy as nothing until when tied to the apron strings of the conservative orthodoxy. “Because he is slave to wrong-headed economics,” Asiwaju Tinubu said of President Goodluck Jonathan, “the people will become enslaved to greater misery. This crisis will bear his name and will be his legacy. The people now pay a steep tax for voting him into office. The removal of the subsidy is the ‘Jonathan tax’,” he insisted. “The situation shows that ideas count more than personalities. People may occupy office but how that person performs depends on the ideas that occupy his mind.” Insisting that the subsidy removal was ill-timed, he said there must be some conditions precedent before such a step could be taken. “First government needs to clean up and throw away the salad of corruption in the NNPC [Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation]. But to think of it, I saw the video during campaign where he said no matter how long you guys protest, he will remove subsidy. This means he is delivering his campaign promises. God help us. |
