Many student have taken to Twitter to share screenshots of the alert they received and the NELFUND official Twitter page is now bubbling with events.

The upkeep money will be paid monthly for 12 month.

Then when the student reapply for the loan for the next session, the clock will reset and start again.

Currently, it seems the Northern students applied more for the loan and they’ve been getting it.

My appeal to Southerner is that if you know you don’t have much to pay your school fees or your parents are struggling, head now to NELFUND website and apply for the student loan.

Don’t think this is like before where government play ping pong. This is very real.

Don't mind the that clown.

Maybe he's the minister of loan or he survives with loan.

No it hasn’t solved all the problems. Nigeria problem cannot be solved in a day.

However, this will solve the problem of several hundred thousands of students whose parent cannot afford to pay their school fees.

It will put 240k per annum in the account of those students for upkeep.

This is a good step in the right direction.

This one from instablog make me laugh.

The guy got approved. The loan got disbursed to his school for the school fees and he is trying to scam NELFUND by saying they should have paid it to his personal account instead because he wants to do business.

What if the government forgive the loan? Or you think that is impossible?

Even if they are taking it back, it’s going to stretch across years and if you are not a criminal, I don’t see how you won’t be able to pay back provided you have a job.

If you’re jobless, you won’t pay anything back. So what’s your fear?

Would you rather FG embezzle the money instead?

20k can't even feed a student well for 2weeks, you've lost the value of 20k in Nigeria since you don't even stay in Nigeria, I believe same thing with Tinubu and his advisers because of how far they are from the people while in governance...

Like when Ngige said 19k can take care of a family of 4 for a full month...

20k can't even buy you 3 paints of beans...

20k can add to what a parent is giving to the student and support them monthly.

If a parent is giving 20k before to their student and they always complain of hunger. FG giving them 20k more to make 40k is a good thing as this will at least make things better for them.

If I go on Twitter today and say I want to do giveaway of 20k for students, almost 90% of student will drop account.

Great initiative and I am glad the FG is delivering on its promise. Quality education, the type that trains solutions providers, will solve 99% of the problems of Nigeria

it's best international practice everywhere for govt to take back the loan once the beneficiaries start working which is after two years I learned in this case. That's a win-win for everybody.

it's to supplement the student expenses or do you expect the govt to feed the students for the entire month?

Unfortunately, what can 20k do for the students in a month? Indomie alone is 15k per carton now. Won't the student transport himself to school? What about other needs of the student? This is more like blowing air into the eyes of a blind man. It makes no difference!!

And the students will be expected to start paying back two years after they complete their NYSC. Talk about double wahala for dead body.
