The only help the government can render is giving out money, these are things that cause inflation. Why don't we devise a plan where students can be employed and they should be paid for service rendered and get work experience?

This is what happens when a government is daft. The guys are not willing to put in a deep thought into providing lasting solutions. What they know is only to throw some crumbs at the problem, and then run off and be screaming that they've done something mighty. That's why you're hearing palliative here and there.

Let me tell the government this! I think that parents of these students will rather have decent jobs where they can earn and pay for your wards, than relying on government loans to pay their school fees because they don't have jobs. The government should think about this and work towards finding a more sustainable solution.

Here's one example of how they can think;

80% of government vehicle purchases will be outsourced to local car manufacturers/assembling companies. In exchange, the govt will task these companies to create 10,000 to 20,000 jobs monthly both directly and indirectly. Same will be done in all our consumption of crude oil by-products. All these items will be purchased locally and the suppliers will be tasked with creating sustainable jobs.

I was expecting to see reasonable amount only to 20k.
I had to check the amount severally to confirm the figure.
This one now will start campaigning for Tinubu as a good president.

Well, what am I even saying. For two siblings that have N440 and N1,500 respectively as account their balance, 20k will sound like N20m to them.
Congrats shaa

Gosh 20k?as a loan?am speechless

No, the government pays the school fees directly to the school...the 20k monthly is an allowance from the government every month for the student's upkeep, sort of like NYSC monthly allowance.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some good news in respond to yesterday's thread https://www.nairaland.com/8174706/6-institutions-receive-2bn-students Well, my siblings finally received the first 20000 monthly Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). It's been a long wait, but it's definitely worth it.

A lot of us have been skeptical about the program, but I can personally attest that it's real! I'm so grateful to the government for making this opportunity available to students.

If you're a student in need of financial assistance for your education, I urge you to apply for the NELFUND loan. It's a game-changer for many students, and it could be the boost you need to achieve your academic goals.

I'm excited to see what the future holds with this financial support.

Let's spread the good news and support this initiative. Well done Mr. President
Your sibling is simply a DEBTOR(chain on his/her neck). No celebrations

Does this include tution fee or na just 20k monthly while you pay tution yourself

Average tuition in Nigeria tertiary institutions is 90k per semester

The tuition fees is already paid off by the government. This 20k monthly allowance is just for the student's upkeep, like NYSC allowance.

What kind of plan is that? Where will they be employed? If I attend Uni in Kafanchan I must be employed in Kafanchan and my employer must make allowances for my study time. Government will start pressuring private sector ba? Do you know what the current unemployment rate is?

We already have NYSC.

Government has been shrinking money supply
through high interest rates. It hasn't worked and the
reason is that a significant connection between USD rates and domestic inflation. Until USD falls prices will remain high.

This is a simplification but your idea is no idea at all.

N20,000 is a monthly stipend. For anyone who is indigent, especially in the hinterland, a financial support of N20,000, every month, is a big deal! I worked in retail banking in the past, I know a few things about some challenges we (who live in the major cities- Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, Kaduna) see as 'small'. I know men (husbands, fathers, uncles, etc), in certain parts of Nigeria, who have never held as small as N5,000, in bulk, in their hands, in their entire lives, some as old as 60 years of age!

In addition to this monthly stipend, the Federal Government, through NELFUND, pays the TUITION FEES DIRECTLY into the accounts of the higher institutions, on behalf of the indigent applicants. This is a big deal!

It is not every time we should criticize Tinubu/FG. He did well with this one!

Thank God if you are so wealthy & 20k means nothing to you.
For your information, the Schl fees is paid directly to the institution while the 20k upkeep is paid directly to the loan beneficiary every month for 12months/one academic session, after which you can re-apply.

The 20k is monthly upkeep allowance payable directly to the student every month, while the school fee is paid directly to the student's institution. The 20k monthly upkeep for 12months + plus the school fees forms the student loan package.

as a family man comprising of 3 children, you will require at least from 5k minimum, if it's even not more than that to cook a decent pot of soup. Just ordinary soup o, now consider some other expenses, like how much quantity of foodstuffs can 10k get one now and how long can it even last, the rest 5k will probably go into filling of gas or buying bag of charcoal. So 20k don finished. 20k that once used to be like big money before.
na for students ooo, meaning the student can use 1k to eat daily
500 Morning 500 Night
Even wen Naija food cheap, back den for sch na u go choose ur formular 101, 011, 110
For dis settings now, 1k supose do 1 student eat for a day.

If you have relatives who are students on your neck for monthly stipends and school fees you will understand how far this can go.

School fees settled directly to the school and 20k monthly that's a good initiative.

It will be a relief for lots of guardians, parents and students who are sponsoring themselves.

Let them face their books and not worry about school fees, they will worry about the loan after graduation.

20k is a lot of money for a lot of Nigerians not to talk of students except we want to deceive ourselves, the indigents will benefit from this a lot.

Abeg the president got this one right, it's not everything we must wail about.
