i really want to know why insurance document is compulsory in car documention when you never get any benefit from it..I thought car insurance is meant to cover some unexpected expenses like minor car accident, i stand to be corrected..i have heard from anybody that insurance turned up for them when they had accident...

Never say say.
You stand to be corrected and you will be corrected.

Most of the half truths and naked lies about how insurance does not work are from people who cannot boast of owning a bicycle.

The third party insurance which is 15k provides compensation for your liability towards a 3rd party in case of an accident. For property damage, the compensation is N 3m max. For life, the insurance act states that the compensation is unlimited but reasonable since you cannot put monetary value to a human life. You can reach me if you need genuine and valid insurance.

thanks but what is this insurance all about? What are the benefits to motorist in Nigeria if it can cost that much every Year? Thanks.

Many Nigerians believe there are no benefits. Reason why the fake are so rampant. The only reason I would want to do the original is just to remove that name that is there.

Thanks.

@Op, I have benefited from insurance (comprehensive) multiple times.
Also, 3rd party is not for police nor avoidance of law enforcement.
Unlike comprehensive that covers repair for your car n other damaged vehicles, third party only fix my car when you damage mine.
Also, In case of theft, the sum insured is payable to you; you dnt get anything for third party.

When you obtain your insurance certificate from licensing offices rather than a registered insurance company, thats what you get

if your insurance is third party, then that's just for police or any law enforcement to harass.

Not true. Third party insurance is exactly what it is. It covers the damage done to the other party's car.

Most times motorist don't claim on 3rd party because they are not aware it is a valid and binding contract.
Re: I Was Given Fake Insurance. by TableLeg(m): 11:34am On Aug 07
Sadly a lot of the third party nonsense they are selling all over the country are fake and will not be valid if you try to make a claim!

Actually no real benefit, you re just doing it to minimize extortion from police and road safety, if you think 3rd party gives any value in naija you re joking. Try comprehensive if you want real value, but remember to do your due diligence not every insurance company in Nigeria provide real coverage they re just after your money.

Comprehensive is good especially if the car is new , not suitable for accidental (damaged beyond cars from overseas) and naija used cars which are technically scrap.

N1000 anointing oil sprinkled on your car from your pastor would have been better.

15k is cheap for insurance. I guess this is 3rd party Insurance.
The other can even cost upto 70k
Re: I Was Given Fake Insurance. by culf: 11:52am On Aug 07
Don't do insurance with vio, go to any reputable insurance company and pick your policy, anything else is waste of money and you can't make claim

There's actually no benefit from car insurance, because it wasn't registered with any insurance company, it is police or road safety money. After that compulsory one, rush to an insurance company; in this case Sanlam insurance and get your vehicle insured it is this insurance that is beneficial when anything happens. comprehensive insurance, #15,000 with tracker. The benefit of the third party insurance is to cater for the repair of the damage u caused another road user vehicle, whenever such happens make sure yiu take pictures and get evidence the accident actually happens you know Nigerians are ery tricky, whatever u spent in repairing the other person car will be refunded to you, Many people don't believe they can't claim it which is not true but it might take a little bit time
That is if the third party was from an insurance company and not police third party insurance. 08164538974

When I bought a Nigeria use car some years ago. I paid to changed ownership and renew all documents.

They did the change of ownership which is proof of ownership and renew the particulars to new name but they forge the insurance certificate.

Unknown to me the insurance was fake. And I have been using it like that since. It turn out now that the last insurance on their system is old and not the one I did and is not even in my name but the previous owner. Because they didn't do the insurance my name is not on it at all.

Sorry but how much was written under PREMIUM : on the “fake” insurance certificate?
Re: I Was Given Fake Insurance. by dsamedaniels(m): 12:14pm On Aug 07
There's third party insurance from police, it doesn't cover anything it is just the name and make feeling like you have insurance.
The real third party insurance should be bought with an insurance company as it covers repair of vehicle you accidentally hit, there is also comprehensive insurance that comes with tracker, this one covers everything just like the name. Accident, theft, fire and the likes. Come to Sanlam and make your choice. 08164538974 or visit my Facebook page All about insurance to know more about everything insurance

It covers who you hit, not you.
It use to be 1m when it was 5k.
It should be more now it is 15k.
Update: it covers 3m.

So sorry to hear about that. I'm an advisor with Axa Mansard. This should never happened to you. Insurance gives your car protection cover from malicious damage, fire, flood, theft.

Third party insurance covers only the other person's car and not yours. A comprehensive motor insurance covers your car on accidental damage, malicious damage from strikes, riots and civil commotion. You get to have free Tracker depending on your car's current valuation (5M above). You also get an alternative car with a driver to run around when your car is being repaired by Axa Mansard.

3rd party insurance is a standard 15k across board. It covers 3million damages against the vehicle you hit, not yours.
