swiz123: Are you sure of this? I personally know someone named "CHIDINMA" who is my contact on FB. Immediately u made this post, I had to go search her name and it was spelt the exact way I spelt it up there. There are several Igbo people on FB with the name "CHIDINMA", just do a search and see for yourself. Maybe this is just a case of "Adeshina vs Adesina" or "Shola vs Sola" amongst Yoruba name spelling |

BlueRayDick: Shamefully, some bearers of that name don't even know their own names. N can never come before M in any Igbo word. It is simply straightforward thing. The only spelling in Igbo language is Chidimma; with that said, the girl's father can maintain plausible deniability. 5 Likes |

Unlimited22: Spelling Igbo words are quite simple because they follow sound. We have Mmadu, Mmasinachi, Mmasi and others but when it comes to Chidimma, some people started Spelling Chidinma. It's embarrassing. 7 Likes |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Unlimited22: 11:12am On Aug 08 |

iamoyindamola: In Igbo language, this will be spelt as kpele because there is KP in Igbo alphabet . Lagos conductors hear am for my hand that year when I was trying to stop at Olorunsogo bustop, close to mushin market. I had to change it to... "UBA bank dey o". |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 11:25am On Aug 08 |
swiz123: Grammatically too, when people spell words like "Shola, Shina, Oshogbo", etc, they are wrong. Why? Because in Yoruba language two consonants don't follow each other. There's actually a "Sh" sound in the Yoruba alphabet but it is just "S" with a mark/dot under it. Also Ebute "Metta" is also wrong because grammatically two consonants don't follow each other in Yoruba language like people wrongly spell meta. But I don't think it is a big issue like that sha. A lot of things have been anglicized overtime and I think it is forgivable for a non-native with deep knowledge about some of these things. 5 Likes |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 11:31am On Aug 08 |
Unlimited22: I understand, a lot of things have been anglicized as part of the after-effects of colonialism. It was just the way swiz claimed no Igbo person bears Chidinma that puzzled me. If he had said the spelling was wrong but admitted those people were still Igbos nonetheless, I won't have any issues with his point. It's just like me saying "Adebayor" is not Yoruba because of how he spelt his name with letter R after Adebayo(The actual Yoruba name) 1 Like |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by swiz123(m): 11:36am On Aug 08 |
BlueRayDick: I have come to realize that Yoruba spelling don't follow sound unlike Igbo. Nma makes no sound and that's why it is Mma. But in Yoruba, you have kpele as Pele, Shino as Shina, Lekoñ as Lekan. To make is more confusing, some Yoruba pronounce Simishola while some say Simisola, Bashorun and Basorun. You can spell any Igbo word if you strictly follow the sound. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 11:40am On Aug 08 |
swiz123: People use it as their name. Igbo people. That is all there is to it. You can say there is a more appropriate spelling, but saying the word does not exist, is not telling the whole story. 1 Like |

afrodoc2: Spelling follow recognized rules. If English people spell their name as Favour while others say Favor and you say Favoir, then the burden is on you to prove where you are from. That's why there is affidavit for name correction if you had spelt rubbish. |
