Ethnicity over Competence= Failure (Sabotage + incompetence)

If you sabi your maths.... That na the results basically.

Basic maths
I have come to the conclusion that the primary reason why we are where we are is because of this confounding mix of different ethnic groups. That's why I love homogeneous societies. I pity countries that God blessed with homogeneity and they decided to be liberal to the point of introducing alien ethnicities into their midst. Babel is the biblical metaphor for what mixture of languages does. It leads to collapse

Just like a man who is after survival has no business with recreation and leisure, same with the country.

Those who will run on Shere Hills or the mambilla are doing so for their survival, to escape poverty also. And many will fail.
Our elites who are supposed to make these things a reality are not on survival mode. When the British were here, our people were grappling with survival but you know that most boarding schools had cricket fields.

Most people do not know that Emmanuel Ifeajuna who won gold by breaking the high jump record at the commonwealth games in Canada in 1954 is the one commemorated on the cover of exercise book we used in primary and secondary school.

Leadership does not care. If it does, even poverty will not be an excuse.

The 88 athletes who qualified for these events were not handpicked—they earned their spots by ranking among the top 16 in the world in their respective disciplines. This achievement alone is remarkable. Let’s not downplay it by bringing in irrelevant arguments like the 200m population crap, where we all know our athletes are only from the Southern part of the country. It's essential to recognize that we are talking about a population of less than 80 million people in the South, yet we have the largest contingent of Black athletes who qualified on merit.

If that doesn't fill you with pride, then perhaps it's time to reflect. Are you among the top 100 million in your own field? These athletes are competing at the highest levels, and they deserve our utmost respect.

I am incredibly proud of our athletes. Over 50 of them qualified directly for their events from a global population of over 8 billion people.
We had 19, 20, and 21-year-olds placing 5th, 6th, 7th, 13th, and 14th among the best in the world.

We saw a 400m hurdles semi-finalist, and both male and female finalists in the 400m. #Peace

We had semi-finalists in the 100, and 200m. A finalists in the 200m!

We were ably represented in long jump, wrestling, table tennis, discus, shot put, 110m hurdles, weightlifting, high jump, javelin, basketball, soccer, and more. We are the only African country representing our continent in these events, maybe 1 or 2 others, and we earned those positions through hard work, not by default.

Our female basketball team made it to the quarter-finals, and our female soccer team ranked among the top 16 in the world. We have three long jump finalists and, with hope and determination, we are aiming for Gold in the 110m hurdles.

The investments we’ve made in our youth are bearing fruit, and we can look to the future with optimism.
I am deeply proud of our athletes. They have made us all proud, and the sky is just the starting point for their achievements.

Thank you to our athletes for all your hard work and for representing us so admirably.

It's not as if we are renowned for having world class or standard training facilities to train our athletes but we are always angry whenever they fail to win anything in competitions. Where Dem wan see am? Me I'm just proud of them for qualifying. Any medal they get is a jara.

Jamaica doesn't have more resources than Nigeria they are just more strategic plus they have sport administrators (read athletics) who're for the most part patriotic and competent.

Directly to your question can't we gather our athletics brains and former athletes like Onyali, Enobong, Chioma Ajunwa, Segun Odegbami and the guy who runs Making of Champions to brainstorm and come up with a plan? Cos this lazy approach of sending our best athletes to US to develop isn't yielding long term benefits.

If countries like Cuba and Jamaica can do it then we have no excuse..

So Jamaica is richer than us. Na wa ooo

I support am since 2021. I no remember o, u get receipts?

I’ve stated the reasons why he is my preferred candidate at this point. Never insinuated he is the best. But if a coach is not really passionate with belief in the team what will he translate to the players? He is still a low grade coach nevertheless based on his achievements

Mujtahida:

Joebie is supporting Saintfiet. In fact he's one of that man's passionate supporters since AFCON 2021. I just dey look am with side eyes.

What we are asking for is out of patriotism. Tonga offered you $150k but we refused out of sheer patriotism. Saintfiet can go and take the Tonga job.

I have to agree but it can go either way. The US although still an experiment have harnessed their diversity for success. It’s only a matter of time, we’ll see if this will last especially if the liberals dominate

Oil dey ur head wella

Felt a need to step into this, since @majoribanks is suggesting @lovewins was handpicking examples

Neither of these athletes were asked to do what their coaches advised them not to. Professionals do not do that. Also, neither of them was drafted into a race they were not trained for. By the way, I do not know of an instance of Favour not honoring her country's call.

Tebogo has run a lot of 400m meters this year for endurance building. No Nigerian has run Tebogo's 44.29 in 36 years! That is how good he is. Hence, the scenarios are different. I bet you if his coach says no, he would not have attempted it.

I have never heard of any association vetoing an athlete's choice of events, after the said athlete has fulfilled the qualification requirements . The power to do this rests with the athlete and coach alone. The only reason Usain Bolt ran that iconic 100m race in Beijing was because his coach permitted him. (See https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2008/aug/06/olympics2008.athletics). He persuaded his coach to try the 100m a year before. Yet Bolt was not sure he was going to run the 100m as a world record holder, even with a few weeks left to the games . If his coach had said NO, not even the federation can overturn that!

The events are not cumulative. She is not the first athlete to do the double. Some athletes actually use one to condition and prepare themselves for the other. She earned the right to double up by winning both events at the trials.

I am not sure I get your point here. Neita participated in both 100m and 200m. The rest you listed did not double up because of their performance at the US trials and not because they could not. If they had qualified, they most likely would have run in both categories to expand their chances of an olympic medal.

I believe administrative incompetence is the reason why she was not entered for the 100m and whoever is responsible should be fired from their job. This has happened time and time again. I remember Okagbare and Oduduru being registered for events they were not interested in at the world champs in 2019. It is already becoming a pattern and an embarassment to the nation.

An athlete shouldn't have to worry about whether the administrative tasks of registering for the right events are going to be properly handled. The competitiveness of the olympics requires full focus and issues like this ar enot helpful for peak performance

The moment in time quota system was introduced into everything was d moment Nigeria died.
Now my question. Did we really grow during the regional government?? If yes, why can't the nation give it a try again.
