Where is the advice and who am I advising? You are mistaking an observation for advice.

I only advise when being paid for it an do not advice for free.

You should have shared your observation with them over there and not coming to disturb people that have been raped by apc with their senile demigod.

Is a lie,Edmonton didn't hit -minus 50 degree last year. I just check it. Once the temperature drops below minus 10 degrees, activities reduce everywhere. Do you guys even know how minus 5 degree feel, let alone - 35 degree.

Why are you bragging about what you are clueless about

January 13, 2024

Temperatures at Edmonton International Airport broke records Friday, dipping down to –45.9 C. The previous daily record was –39.4 C, recorded in 1969, Anderson said.

Saturday's low hit –45.3 C, which broke the previous record of –41.7 C, he said. But there is potential for a third day of record-breaking cold Sunday, as the forecast predicts a low of –43 C.

...dont even go to pay.....go to quality of life firdt....of what essence is earning tgat low pay in those "decent" jobs in Nigeria only to spend half of it in buying adulterated fuel after queuing for hours then ply road s full of gorges to get home with no public power supply, and then, be your own security guard over night due to insecurity....then, if you mistakenly fall sick, you are a goner....you can't trade out of the city for fear of kidnapping, hunger and desperation surrounda you, polluted air all over..

Of what essence is the decent pay or jobs ams whn you live in misery...you only have 1 life....chose to enjoy the good side of life...you don't know whether you will come back again.

You've made a solid point and the way I see life is per head, nobody really get manual for how to live life but you still that frugality and prudence, many people will be forced to explore that option with the new system sweeping Nigeria rn.

Stop displaying ignorance In a public forum, prove what you just said with facts, not your beer parlour data.
Those records are extreme temperatures and very rare.

So much hate on this thread just because of someone's observation...which is nothing new anyway...

Some are feeling like what he said will deny them visa---that's the vibe I am getting...or when they get 'there', they too don't want to be 'judged' so they can comfortably snap in snow and pepper people back home through WhatsApp status without their conscience biting them.

Continue please. The write-up is sp nice to read. Nigerians live in Nigeria and compete with others abroad. That's why there is panic when the dollar goes up, they console themselves with the fact that they have more dollars than their mates abroad shocked

someone banned me here so i cant respond to you - i guess they just removed the ban - we complain of dictatorship in Nigerian government yet small power we get as admin in small nairaland we display same dictatorship we complain about with Nigerian government- how sad!

That was revealing. This could explain why nigerians abroad look generally unhealthy with a vast majority being overweight and over stressed.
But, working three jobs..damn.How is that possible? How many hours does one sleep?

In Europe you don't necessarily need a car. In N/A you need one. The OP was not hammering on "impressing" He's saying people should stop hustling with new cars during winters and sit in a bar or restaurant instead..lol grin

This exactly. Penny pinching and scraping for decades with nothing real to show for it. And for what?

The people living above their so called means enjoyed life while at it, traveled the world , enjoyed luxury cars, lived in great neighborhoods and their kids enjoyed fine things of life from childhood. No be suffer head.

In the end both of them will most likely die at approximately the same age. One would have got out of life what God created the earth for. For human Enjoyment. And the other would have started trying to live fully when his bones are weak and joints are stiff.

That is if neither of them died in their youth.

Like someone said up there, money is a tool. Use it to improve your life.
First acquire an important skill or the necessary education that ensures that money will always come then go out there and live life. For goodness’ sake!

You might be right, and might also be wrong.
Maybe they want to work so damn hard for a short time and invest and retire back home. I had a friend who did Dat for 10 years now he is retired in Nigeria building companies.
But, you said you have lived here for 15 years, even though you live like a church rat and don't spend, so why haven't you saved enough to retire?
So basically you have wasted 15 years of your life punishing yourself. 😆🤣
And you do junk American foods? Why can't you go african market and get healthy food cook?
Make you enjoy small ooo, life is not guaranteed ooo.
Besides, some of those guys might just be born hustlers and now they have the energy they want to utilize it to maximum.
I do HVAC and my job is 100 percent commissioned, and my job pays crazily, but that spirit of hustling dey still push me to do side hustling too, just coz I hate staying home some days in front of the TV it's boring

There was never a time Edmonton hit (-50) last year. Some places in Alberta, possibly the oil fields but not Edmonton. At -50 the roads are even not motorable as the snow has built up significantly in breadth & width. It's only Saskatchewan I know that hits that -42 in their cities and everyone basically stays at home. It's a made up story. -10/-20 maybe but dinning in -50? grin

Where did you go to where the temperature was -35 and people delivered food with SUVs? I am excited to visit the place.
lol the guy went to Alaska…. I don’t understand how people cannot mind their Business. If someone decides to use their spare time to do deliveries, How does it concern this idiot? How is someone utilizing their spare time equate to showing off? I am sure the idiot looks down on people doing deliveries because in his head a delivery man is a poor man that is supposed to drive 1995 car…lol.

Don't they have public buses or trains in North America? Or they are not functioning well ? And why the need for the SUV's even for an individual household?Generally, l observe America as a place
where people like to show off and blow their trumpet.
From the big house, huge cars etc all to impress .This is typical the Nigerian way

Maybe mind your business and face your meal.
Imagine calling people Nigerian looking, that's a very ignorant statement.

About three years ago.
The restaurant was filled with everyone white except myself. I looked behind me and it was crowded with delivery drivers working for the delivery app, Skip the Dishes, waiting to pick up food orders. Nine delivery drivers and all black guys mostly Nigerian looking.

Imagine what it means to have to drive constantly in the bitter cold to deliver food when most people are either sleeping or enjoying themselves in a warm restaurant.

Some of these guys are even delivering with brand new SUVs purchased on credits and after a deeper dive, I came to realize our people here live mostly above their means to impress fellow Nigerians. They buy houses or cars they cannot afford and now have to work three jobs and drive on the side to maintain their fake lifestyles.

This is not a healthy way to live guys, learn to relax and enjoy yourself once in a while, do not live above your means and the fact that you are pre-authorized for that big mortgage, loan, or line of credit does not mean you have to accept.

Learn to live your life without trying to please or impress anyone and occasionally, take time off to have fun and enjoy yourself, take vacations.

Fallacy of hasty generalization. Stereotyping and discrimination on the basis of skin color.

You never interviewed them but assumed they were Nigerians, vehicles purchased on credit, living above their means, and trying to impress nobody but you.

People don't care what you drive or wear here, and what job you do. There is dignity in labour, and sometimes people do odd jobs not primarily because of money. There's more to that.

Keep on observing without integrating and you will have more surprises along the way even after 15 years.
