Why has Tinubu Refused sacking NNPC Chairman?? What's happening! Or he is one of the strongest oil Mafia in the country?? Something is definitely not right... They have frustrated Dangote refinery efforts to remedy fuel scarcity... God please....... 1 Like |

We are now in the same situation we always have been several times over the years...the government does not have enough money to keep fuel at the current subsidised rate, so everyone is selling at their price. The thing is, subsidy has to go totally. Yes, it means we will sell fuel at N1500 , maybe N1700 per liter. Yes, you can abuse me all day long.......but the problem we have with petrol in Nigeria started when someone thought it would be a good idea to help the poor by selling at a price below the production cost of one liter of fuel Forget which party you support....you cannot bake a loaf of bread at N1000 and then come and sell it at N200 ....and be happy you helped the poor...meanwhile the losses you are sustaining. Maintaing subsidy costs a lot of money, is rife with corruption, and costs a lot of money. It is better we ended the subsidy trap, and faced reality You are free to abuse me. Thanks. |

Johncuppa: I tell you my broda. Tinubu has disgraced every yòrúba race including me for his own self interest and is a pity they are following a self center, greedy cum marabout classless politician. Perhaps we need to ask his BOT how many of them has is self-interest help. And d guy is so subtily divisive that since 1999 when he became Governor of Lagos state the shout of ethnicity has been loudest 3 Likes |

nairalanda1:. So are you now saying from 200#/litre to 630# when it was first increased govt is paying a differential of 430#/litre for Nigerians? |
Re: FG Mute As Fuel Scarcity Worsens, Hits N990/litre by onyxo76(m): 2:08pm On Aug 12 |
nairalanda1: you make good comments and analysis, let's assume we remove subsidy completely and we sell at your quoted prices above, will this still solve our fuel worries knowing fully well that the entire sector is riddled with corruption? |
Re: FG Mute As Fuel Scarcity Worsens, Hits N990/litre by nairalanda1(m): 2:33pm On Aug 12 |
onyxo76: Well, we would still import for some time, since it is going to take time for the refineries to come on line, but I guess that eventually fuel would flow without issues. The 'downside' is that it would be expensive. But that's sadly a harsh truth. |
Re: FG Mute As Fuel Scarcity Worsens, Hits N990/litre by nairalanda1(m): 2:36pm On Aug 12 |
villagereporter: Landing cost right now is N1117 naira, meaning that government is still paying a subsidy of at most 600 naira per liter. If fuel was N200, that differential would be around 900 Naira per liter, which means that the government bites into the budget to pay for the subsidy and fills the hole with more and more loans. There is a reason why many west African countries do not have fuel subsides, it's too expensive for their already battered economies. 1 Like |

Mr president since you are sure you are serving Nigerians and you have the interest of mass at heart, kindly return subsidy that's the only thing Nigerians are enjoying you just remove it without any plans just to suffer people. |
Re: FG Mute As Fuel Scarcity Worsens, Hits N990/litre by villagereporter(m): 2:43pm On Aug 12 |
nairalanda1:. Perhaps, we need to ask d olódö of a president why he did not take precautionary method before being overwhelmed by spirit on his inaugural day to proclaimed "subsidy is gone". And who should we blame for his stupidity? His primary aim of removing fuel subsidy is about our neighbors yet there are still smuggle fuel through bush path in Idiroko borders. 1 Like |

nairalanda1:good reasoning, however, do you really think those involved want any refinery to ever work? look at what's happening to the dangote refinery. Ask yourself why have the ones we have never worked in almost 4 decades? Some people are feeding fat on this import of fuel and will do everything possible to make it stay that way. you and I are simply at the receiving end of this problem. |

DeepSight:he announced it was gone cause at the end of june no one was going to pay for it again....it was the marketers who took advantage knowing there was no more free money to start selling what they already had at inflated prices.....like say you no know your Nigerian people.......they did that to shift conversation and mount pressure in hopes that he would back track which he refused.... |
Re: FG Mute As Fuel Scarcity Worsens, Hits N990/litre by leokid866: 4:15pm On Aug 12 |
dmz1:you're the one bringing ethnicity into the matter cause all candidates promised in their manifesto to remove subsidy.....and it's obvious you don't know anything about politics or the rules of power cause if small pressure will make your candidate to start chasing supplementary budget and be backtracking then it means he is weak willed and anyone can ride him and be pressing his mumu button the way they were controlling jona wey him no fit see road...... |

ivandragon: My sentiments exactly! He’s a very devious person….a character trait that’s useful for navigating and succeeding in the murky waters of Nigerian politics! But when it comes to actual administration and governance….especially of a complex country grappling with socio-economic and security challenges, dude hasn’t got a clue and can’t tell his left from his right! I mean, how can someone just after being sworn into office, stupidly declare with arrogance and braggadocio that ‘subsidy is gone’, without first studying the situation and knowing the implications and impact of the removal!? Then few weeks later, they go ahead and float the naira in a country with no production base and no steady and reliable source of FOREX to back up demand!? These two mistakes are unforgivable and primarily responsible for where we find ourselves today! 1 Like |

onyxo76: The major reason the 4 major refineries and haven't worked is because THE PEOPLE of Nigeria have insisted that they must remain under government ownership AND government must continue subsidizing the price of petrol. Those subsidies are the major reason private refineries haven't been able to operate sustainably and efficiently. Yes, it's that simple. The PDP government of President Obasanjo SOLD one or some of the NNPC refineries in 2007 or so. The buyer paid and the government under President Yaradua revoked the sale and REFUNDED the money. Whenever I bring up this subject, every Nigerian will say they don't remember. How come? https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/mi/country-industry-forecasting.html?id=106597856#:~:text=Published%3A%2020%20July%202007%20Nigerian,refineries%20following%20huge%20public%20outcry. Because of the vast public outcry over the sale of two of Nigeria's refineries to a domestic consortium involving reportedly the wealthiest businessman in the country, Bluestar Oil has decided it will cancel the agreement and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) will once again take over the running of the facilities. Google Search on the subject. https://www.google.com/search?q=refinery+sale+reversed+in+nigeria+2007&rlz=1C1NDCM_enUS837US837&oq=refinery+sale+reversed+in+nigeria+2007&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigATIHCAUQIRigAdIBCTE2MjYyajBqOagCALACAQ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Compare and contrast - the sale of all the various government owned cement companies were successful. Today government doesn't own any active cement factory, prices are NOT regulated and cement scarcity is a thing of the past, there's plenty of cement in the market for everyone to buy. Please everyone get informed. Nigeria is a democracy, THE PEOPLE get exactly what they want. Good Luck to Nigeria. |
