Hehehe! Remember you are always going abroad to seek healthcare. You better ban yourself, Governors, Ministers, NASS members from foreign medical tourism.

Pay they well, then his inflation through his destruction of the economy will catchup with every increment of pay. Can he pay a nurse 6m or a doctor 15m monthly salaries?

Nigeria is being exploited by UK,USA and Canada by poaching their best healthcare workers.

They let Nigeria train them(for relatively free) only for them to hire them for peanuts into their own system.

How does the USA,UK and Canada prevent this happening to them ?

They saddle all graduates with huge loans.......give or take 350 thousand dollars.

So that when you graduate, you will be forced to work in the USA, if you desire to pay back that loan.

If you decide to go work somewhere else, you will never be able to pay back that loan.(They devalue the currency of the home country)

If Nigerian government wants to stop this, they need to saddle all those courses that are high brain-drain prone with huge loans.

Give every doctor a 10 million Naira loan, payable only to his tuition and then give them a job where 1 million Naira is forgiven every year or 500k every year. Only award them certificates as doctors after the loans are paid in full or on completion of a mandatory 10 years of working in a government hospital. Salaries have to be competitive and realistic. No doctor should earn less than a senator.

This will deter a lot of health workers from going abroad the next day after graduating.
You fake enlightened Yoróba APC members will just wake up and be talking nonsense out of your senseless effort to defend and support Tinubu's senseless and futile policies.

How and where did you see a Nigerian Doctor migrate abroad to work under one year after graduation, how is it possible? Don't you know that most countries make it compulsory for you to have at least 2 or 3 years work experience before they can accept you?

The other senseless APC online thug said Nigeria trained healthcare workers with taxpayer's money, how and where? So people that also went to private universities were trained by the government? You guys are being so foolish in the name of trying so hard to defend Tinubu's senseless policies.

The reason healthcare workers are migrating abroad is poor wage and salary/allowances.

Tell Tinubu to stop traveling abroad for medical treatment and also ban same for all government officials, then increase budget to ministry of health, buy more medical equipments for government hospitals, renovate and expand existing healthcare facilities, and increase healthcare workers salaries.

Let House Officers (what you guys call Doctors) be paid a minimum of NGN1,500,000 above as starter salary, and Nurses NGN800,000 above and watch them stop migrating naturally.

Clowns here talking again,

The problem remains not enough jobs and poor working conditions.

Imagine a new consultant not finding work and having to work for peanuts to survive after so many years they put in, those are the Cadre nigeria is loosing on in droves and the country should strive to retain first

But no you all want Dr's to pay 10 million first before they Japa, news flash, their colleagues abroad are raising it for them, last last where there is a will there is a way

Nigeria should set up more hospitals ,public and private and pay better with better working conditions for ALL Cadre of health care workers

The reality is that everyone is poorly paid and, if given the opportunity, majority will migrate.

The only reason doctors are migrating in higher proportion (compared to other professions) is because their services in many developed and well-paying countries are in higher demand.

It's a demand and supply issue. A less developed country like Nigeria can never match the level of pay in these countries. The higher you want to increase doctors pay in Nigeria to match these countries, the more pay disparity and crisis you get both within and outside the sector.

So why bother with laws and policies against migration? Address the demand and supply issue by increasing the number of medical colleges. When the developed world get higher number of doctors than they need, the rest will stay back.

Beyond addressing demand and supply issue, a second and cheaper alternative is to develop the economy. N1,600 to a dollar will make any sane person consider migration.

Whatever measure you put in place, if security and inflation is not checked, expect more migration across board. You increase their salary, they become more prone to vices like kidnapping, banditry and robbery. What is not in paying them well and they don't have peace spending their money?

Laughable bro.
1. First, it doesn't cost up to 350.000 usd to study medicine or nursing in the US.
Undergrad + Medical school = You can do 350k easily !!
2. Americans simply stay back home because the govt treats them fine and pays them well. Not all of them studied with loans.
Americans stay home because they are tethered by loans, if you travel and come back the interests on the loans will balloon, Governement gives them jobs, work for 10-15 years for us and we will erase your loans.
3. Americans who just seek to explore the world still travel.
Not permanently, there is nowhere else that can pay them enough to pay their mortgage and outstanding loans
4. Nigeria is a low budget country and you can't just get it overpriced overnight. The public schools in Nigeria can't be more expensive than the private schools in Nigeria. The error yet is that the student loan is only for public schools.
not sure what your point is here ?
5. A Dr can earn 10m abroad in one month. So, keeping them back with loan of 10m where you will deduct 1m yearly is a slavery they will run away from at all cost. It means you don't plan to pay them well yet.
A doctor earning 10 million abroad has 9 million worth of bills, loans, credit cards, expenses, insurance etc
6. People say people are educated with public funds as if the tuition is free.
Tuition is subsidized, no need to lie. Abroad you pay good money to go to school, thats why they ask for proof of funds or sponsor before they issue you a student visa.
A man who struggled to pay his way through school will never let you dictate to him how to build his career. If you seize their certificate, they go abroad and write their professional exams there and continue their lives.
You cannot write any professional exams without clearance from your school.
7. Many things make Nigerians emigrate, the politicians just keep toiling with the lives of the citizens. Have 24/7 electricity, running water and a Nigeria free of kidnapping and see emigration naturally reduce by 50%.
There are problems abroad as well, albeit not these kinds, but trust me, its not as rosy as people think.

The political class know how to fix Nigeria, but if they do, they will lose their royal lifestyle so they will NEVER WILLINGLY do it.

A country where lecturers go abroad to study and never return, is it not shameful?

YOU ALL REALLY DON'T KNOW THE EXTENT THESE POLITICIANS HAVE RAVAGED AND STILL DEVOURING THIS COUNTRY. BY THE TIME MANY WILL REALISE IT, IT IS WAY TOO LATE.

A country where 96% of the country's revenue is used to pay only interest on loans, yet they are still seeking out loans, even though previous loans were never used for it intended purpose but stolen with impunity.

Politicians want the masses to sacrifice their lives for them, but they are not ready to make any single sacrifice.

This will deter a lot of future health workers from studying medicine in Nigeria. It's that simple!

12000 less people applied to study Medicine in United Kingdom this year.
The pay is not worth the trouble, that's why they are staffing their hospitals with Nigerians.
All they have to do is devalue our Naira more against the pounds sterling and they can have all the doctors in Nigeria.

We call on recipient countries to implement a 1:1 match—training one worker to replace every publicly trained Nigerian worker they receive.

The policy champions reciprocal agreements with other nations to ensure that the exchange of health workers benefits Nigeria. These bilateral and multilateral agreements are designed to protect national interests while respecting the rights and aspirations of our healthcare professionals.
Many Nigerian healthcare workers leave the country for greener pastures, leaving their colleagues to contend with additional workload and extended call hours.

This policy is a great effort on the part of the executive arm of the Federal Government. The real drain is the uncontrolled migration of healthcare professionals educated with tax payers' hard-earned money. It's daylight robbery of the taxpayers, states and Federal Government by these public-educated Healthcare professionals who flee abroad after their education with public funds! Cuba stopped it and today secured its health system with professionals trained with public taxes,Nigeria can do so too. This injustice meted to the Nigerian state by the fleeing healthcare professionals educated with public funds has to stop immediately. It's an ungodly and criminal injustice done to the Nigerian public education and Healthcare system.

I am glad that the states will execute the policy as well. This is the kind of policy many Nigerian Patriots have been calling for in order to protect the rights of the average Nigerian taxpayer whose tax was used to educate a healthcare professional who immediately flees abroad after receiving training with taxes paid by Nigerians. It's a completely unfair system and something should have long been done about it although it's good that something is eventually being done to arrest the fraud.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

so when nigerian politicians that you kiss their ass daily travel out of the country for medical trips abroad, why is that not to you "daylight robbery of the taxpayers"?

why are you not concerned that the doctors "educated with tax payers' hard-earned money" are ignored by the same politicians who prefer foreign doctors but feel nigerian doctors are not good enough for them?

do the doctors leaving Nigeria leave just because they want to or because the politicians who you ass lick daily engage in "daylight robbery of the taxpayers" money meant to provide equipment and remuneration that will provide the enabling environment they need to thrive?

My proposal is thus:-
(1) Health courses in federal and state universities should be subsidies by the government, but this subsidy package must be made optional.
(2) Agreement should be reached with all prospective students that choose the subsidy package, that upon graduation they're obligated to work in Nigeria for 15yrs before they can relocate abroad. Their medical licence will be held by the council for the entirety of the 15yrs period. This agreement must be part of the letter of admission. Any medical staff that choose to leave before the appointed time must pay back to the government the corresponding subsidy for his education with interest.
(3) If, during the course of his education he decides to abandon the program and relocate, nothing shall apply in this instance.
(4) This will only apply to student under government subsidy.
