Are you talking about IPTV? I have that currently but our supplier seems to be dodgy. The connectivity to Internet is poor.
BTW, @Zahra29, if I get the amazon stuff, do I need antenna or satellite outside?
Baba Lexus, let me know your suggestion. The £25 is for what? Is this monthly or yearly?

Yes, you typically need an outdoor aerial or satellite dish to access the full range of Freeview channels, however there are indoor aerials like the one below in case you don't have or want one on your roof.

(Disclaimer I haven't used this particular brand of indoor aerial or the Freeview box I linked earlier)

Do you have a smart TV? They almost all come with some Freeview channels nowadays. It may just need to be configured...

Various reasons. Some are full-time carers. Some are women/parents who have dropped out of the workforce to raise children. Quite a few older people left work during Covid and decided to start their retirement from there. There are some who were self-employed outside IR35 and got sick of the whole IR35 thing and don't bother working (or declaring income) anymore and just do their own thing. There are also people who want to work but cannot access jobs - they may be in towns/villages where there are few opportunities but can't travel/commute/relocate to where jobs are either because they can't afford to or there is no available transport (high cost of train fares, for instance) or they have support networks they cannot leave or the tight housing market won't allow it.

The actual number of people who are the Telegraph's enemies, i.e. so-called persons on benefits who supposedly actually can work is debatable.

Are the self employed also included I wonder, as you've mentioned some might not declare their income and even those who do pay the relevant taxes may still be classed as not working in these stats. The article stated that the stats includes students but no mention of business owners, unless I missed it.

At this point, we need to consider opening a "UK - Politics" thread so we can leave this thread for "Life in the UK"...

I pity new folks who would want to read through the thread to gain knowledge like some of us did when we landed here. Nowadays, no one asks questions anymore because the thread is so heated with far-this and that arguments. When people ask questions, there's barely answers. Even US Politics goes on for days and I wonder.

It was almost tolerable before the Elections since it was assumed to be campaign but now it's just name-calling and ideology-dragging talk that barely benefits anyone.

Again, maybe the group has matured so much that people don't need those childish yarns about jobs, housing, driving, visa, credit, travel, etc and are now more focused on the big British talk grin

Coming from an old moniker like Solumtoya, I think this makes sense.

Did everybody see the different reactions ,on this thread ,to the Muslims who kicked somebody in the head ?

Or the councillor calling for heads to be cut off? I did not see a single "underlying causes " excuse on this thread.
We all agree that Swift justice was visited on them and rightly so.

That's where we differ. We are not the same QED.

Grateful that the dust has settled and things are getting back to normal wrt the unrest that happened in several places in the UK.

BBC in-depth article on titled - Starmer will be judged on how he tackles root causes of riots

I wanted to paste the whole article but decided not to because its a bit long, i'll just post a few points from the article. If interested, the link is up there.

et the prime minister and his aides have pointedly avoided answering questions about the underlying causes of the riots.

I’m told the reason for this message discipline is a concern that discussing causes might be misinterpreted as suggesting some of the unrest was justified.

Sounds like they probably saw the drama that ensued on Nairaland and decided that silence is golden 😂

What logic?

My point: Dupyshoo was right.... both sides did stuff.... we need to condemn every act of violence.. let the Police do their job of preventing and detecting disturbances

Peace will always be the answer

War/violence never solves anything

There has to be another way.....

Love builds.... Hate destroys

Good to see you here again @profemebee. Hope you've been keeping well and settled/settling in nicely into your new home.

Slightly more than half of the UK's population take out more from the system than they pay in in taxes, whether or not they are receiving cash back from the government in the form of what we commonly think of as "'benefits''. Non-cash benefits in the form of how much it costs the government to educate one child in school (for those who have children), or how much to cover an average GP or hospital visit are also included.

Definitely some people will take out more than they put in but as long as they work and pay into the system i don't consider them benefit scroungers. A lot of new immigrants pay double tax but take very little from the system,

Someone from Africa can arrive in this country today and within days have managed to get a job, work hard to a better life while someone who was born here is giving million and one excuses why he is unable to get a job.

You still haven't answered my question. I didn't ask about changing suppliers or giving your money to Sky. My question was straightforward, and I appreciate @Zahra29 for providing the simple answer that was needed. Some questions require a direct response, not a diplomatic one. BTW, I do Pay £100 yearly for my IPTV subscription. Thank you for adding to the confusion.

There’s no point bothering ourselves much, one major thing is clear before, during and after this crisis; you’re already a confirmed criminal when you run foul of the law as an immigrant before and after the crime but as a British native there are underlying causes, the earlier we accept this the better for peace to reign. So many revolutionary revelations. wow!

Hello everyone

I recently visited the London passport office with my children to renew our passports. While my passport and my son's passport were delivered within three days of our biometrics, my daughter's passport is still being processed.

The tracking system indicates that her NIN is pending verification. I obtained her NIN, along with my son's, from Nigeria, and I am perplexed as to why hers is the only one that is pending.

I have contacted my mother's back in Nigeria, and the NIMC contact informed me that my daughter's NIN requires revalidation.

My concern is that I have been unable to reach the Nigerian High Commission in London via email or phone. Given that they have not contacted me about the delay, I am uncertain whether her application will be processed once her NIN is revalidated or if I will need to travel to London again.

Anyone with similar experience, pleasenhow did you go about yours? Thank you

Honestly I wanted to refer those in the debate to politics section, but guess what? They won't go because they know they won't get the cheap attention they crave there. They'll rather stay here derailing thinking they are making sense, as if they don't know where Downing street is.

You'd hardly find someone with this experience, I try to ensure the NIN is validated and all done before proceeding for biometrics just to avoid going to London twice.

Do the Validation first, it takes 24hrs or so, then wait a little bit and you might have to go back to London to prompt them.

Thank you. Going back to London from Scottish Island is expensive and time comsuming. I have tried to contact them via emaol and pjone no luck. This is tiring really.

I did log into the NIMC app and everything appears fine.

I honestly think it’s all about making an application and seeing how it goes. The worst answer you can receive is a rejection.
This country likes evidence. Submit your payslips. Submit any other relevant documents that shows you work in the Heath & care sector. You probably have an ID card. Or some email communication or something.

Remember, you don’t ask; you don’t get.

Hey Reshee,

I'm here to give you a feedback on this.

I applied, and I and my dependant have been refunded for 6 months.

I first apllied towards the end of July, but they requested I submit my official offer letter, because the one I submitted was provisional. I got the official offer letter from my line manager, I resubmitted it, but no response from them.

Two days ago, I started the whole process again, submitted the necessary documents and also match the date range claimed to the payslip I submitted. I got a mail yesterday that it had been approved and I will have to wait up to 6 week to get refunded.

I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw was the alert. 🤑🤑

Thanks for the encouragement.

Don't use the app, instead reach out to one of those NIN Agents in the UK and they should be able to help. Some will charge about £20 and they will sort it out.

Good day lovely people, I would like to ask a few questions about the ILR application. I came to Uk under the pre-eu settlement scheme and will be 5 years in September. I’m getting married by month end and curious to know if this can affect my 5 application for ILR being successful. Also, do I need to keep using my parents address or it’s alright to use my husband’s during the application.

How does the protest debate that went on here go against the topic of this thread? Many are expressing their outrage/ anger/ frustration about the protest which affected many immigrants in the UK and some of you are complaining about the discussion?

Not every topic discussed here that will interest everyone, you look away if you are not interested you ignore those who are expressing their concerns.

This thread is not one topic thread.

Getting married will not affect your application, use your current address if documents you will be submitting for the application has the address.

I had a similar issue a few years ago with my daughter’s passport application in Ikoyi. It took a while for her NIN to drop, so they couldn’t issue her passport. I had to expedite it through one of my contacts before the NIN was eventually validated and linked to NIS database. Passport was issued a week later.
