Who's right? Who's wrong?

Grammy-winning American gospel singer, Kirk Franklin, has revealed that he stopped talking to his mother at the age of 32.

“For the first time ever, I’m going to tell this story. This is why I stopped talking to my biological mother. I was 32 years old and my sister got out of prison and I was the only one trying to help her with accommodation and other stuff,” he recalled.

“She was still struggling with drugs. It was more than a 32-year-old can handle. And we needed to do an intervention to help her. And again, this is not my daughter. She’s not my daughter. She’s my sister. She has a mother.

So, we had a family meeting but my biological mother showed up with her new husband. The intervention was going okay. When it ended, we all hugged and because we haven’t been around each other for years someone said, ‘This is so beautiful. This is what a family should be doing.’ And I said this is not about us, this is about my sister who just got released. After I said that, my mother’s new husband yelled, ‘What you need to do, is call your mama sometimes.’ I said, ‘Sir, I don’t know who you are but she’s the mother, I’m the child.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, but you call yourself a Christian.’

The argument got heated and my mother did something that crushed my heart. She grabbed his hand and said, ‘Come on, baby, let’s go.’ And she walked out of the house with her two kids. And I yelled at my mama, ‘That’s right, go ahead and walk out like you always do.’

For the fact that she didn’t take that man’s hand and say, ‘Baby, stay away. This is between me and my kids. Kids I did not raise, kids I did not nurture, kids I did not provide for, kids I did not protect.’ She took that man’s hand and walked out with him. And I promised myself that as a little boy I couldn’t protect myself but as a grown man I would never be put in a position where you would treat me like that again.”

So many of us had our parents offend us while growing up...

But we all have to heal, forgive and move on.

I really understand how hurt that action could have bn a big hurt to him.

... All my people, do you want a revolution? ... I said, do you want a revolution? Whoop Whoop! . 🎶

Our parents have done some things in the past we didn't like and at some points then, made us to hate them but now that we are adults we love our parents so much.

Franklin's case is peculiar because the mother chose a lover over her children.

Ehn and your bible preached forgiveness, if your analogy is the way I would have less than 5ppl to talk to in the whole world cuz almost everyone I know has hurt me a lot at some point, plus he's lucky his mom is still around, many of us didn't get that luxury, and I'm not even religious.

That's bad. Mama didn't try at all.

She needs to apologize to her kids. That's bad

Some people would just open their mouth and say “I want to be like Kirk Franklin”. They didn’t know what he has passed through in life. Would such people be ready to bear such pains in life to become who Kirk Franklin is today? Well, all I have for Kirk is to say that since he is a minister of the gospel, he should remember the Lord’s Prayer on total forgiveness.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Difficult to do but that is what is required of us non the less and it's non negotiable. When it gets hard to forgive, instead of holding on to the grudge--pray instead that God would give you a heart that will forgive, for we can do nothing on our own.

If nor be you, advice go plenty for your mouth..

You hear people say "I can relate" on your experience, people who have no idea how you feel/felt...

That’s one of the ills of a dysfunctional family. The mother was and is still an irresponsible mum. Maybe she’s lost that bond/connection with her children.

Growing up I realised how much parents could hurt their children so I promised myself to be conscious of my actions and inactions while raising mine.

I used to think it was unthinkable not to forgive one's parents but as I grew other I realized that some parents are toxic. The best thing you can do for yourself and your future children is to stay the Bleep away from such parents.

You can forgive people who hurt you and decide to stay away from them.

Forgiveness is not stupidity!

i also once had an issue with my dad.
he broke my heart that i decided not to cry if i ever heard he died.
but when christ came into my life
i learnt to let go and i forgave my dad
because while i was yet a sinner christ died for me ;he died for us and forgave us freely.
and yet many of us are ungrateful for his sacrifice but still he never let go .

i learnt to forgive from christ .

it cost him all, but it will only cost us a little compared to what it cost
him.
when we forgive we lose our grudges but when christ forgave he lost his life.

A lot of parents have done really terrible things that even one's worst enemies would not think of.
It is very easy to ignore or not interact with them.
But as a Christian, you have no choice.
What would Jesus do?
