Good morning guys, please is Police Character Report compulsory for PR application?

Yes it is compulsory for a PR application.

You have to get a police report for every country you've stayed in for more than 6 months.

I was partially returned because I made the report personally. My passport had expired and I had no way of returning. IRCC took it from there, they didn't give me a removal order or any documents but I was detained and then a travel document and flight ticket was brought for my trip. I was accompanied by 3 officials all the way to Nigeria.

I was not on a work permit. I was on a study permit which I switched to a visitor's visa - probably why the situation didn't escalate to a deportation.

You were deported. Immigration officers “escorted” you into a flight IRCC/CBSA paid for. That’s not voluntary exit and there’s nothing partial about that.

When filling any immigration forms especially those that has to do with the US, the answer to if you’ve been deported is yes. They already know. Answering any other way will lead to a permanent ban.

Like I mentioned earlier, I know what my interactions with the officials was like and I understand what they explained to me as well as the circumstances surrounding the return.

I do not believe you but thanks for your input.

unless what you stated is different from what happened. Forget about the interaction with border officers. Listen to the last poster.

Fellow Nairalanders, I just want to clarify, Is it compulsory to affix passport photo on the Medical form?

What is your opinion on using Q-Life, it's closer to me.

No need for a photo on the medical form. You'll take one at the clinic.

I'd say IOM, as they upload the results quicker. I believe they are more expensive though, so keep that in mind.

Good Morning,
Can anyone help with suggestions with difference of surnames during WES evaluation.

I want to create a profile for my Wife's WES evaluation, which name should be put as the last name when filling the registration form? Is it her father's surname or my adopted surname. I am asking this because her statement of results and transcripts bear her father's surname.

Use her current legal names. WES should give her an option to include her maiden name, and this would be reflected in the WES report.

The Decision to Travel:

Update!

Canada is a beautiful country, and Calgary is a particularly clean and lovely city. If you’re coming here as a permanent resident (PR), I highly recommend bringing as much cash as possible. Even if you have family or friends to stay with, you’ll still need money, as things can be quite expensive, especially when you’re new and not yet earning in dollars.

For example, I now find it easier to pay $50 for a haircut because I work here, but in my first few months, I was cutting my own hair.

Here’s my advice for anyone coming to Canada:
- Bring plenty of money.
- Stay with family or friends, if possible, to help reduce your living expenses initially.
- Take advantage of the system’s offerings: as a PR, you’re eligible for benefits like child care benefits if you have children. Use the food banks too, there’s no shame in using the food bank but don’t abuse it. Only take what you need. And once you start working, try to give back by contributing or volunteering.

When looking for an apartment, consider signing a short-term lease (3 or 6 months) and, if possible, find a fully furnished one. Calgary is a large, spread-out city with four quadrants (SW, SE, NE, and NW) made up of various communities. If you find a community that suits you, you can always extend your lease. Furnished apartment because if the community does not work for, you can easily pack your bags and move out when your short-term lease ends. Be sure to take care of your apartment to avoid losing your deposit (hands off the wall!)

Look for apartments near bus stops, schools, and shopping centers. Rentfaster is a very good website. You can start with a basement apartment, but avoid spending too long in a basement apartment due to the limited sunlight. Moving to an apartment with more natural light can improve your mood.

I was fortunate to find a fully furnished 2-bedroom basement apartment with all utilities included for $1,800. After six months, I moved to an apartment closer to schools and bus stops. If I had signed a 12-month lease and the community didn’t work for me, I might have been stuck or had to pay a fee to break my lease.

In Calgary, and generally in Canada, having a car is not a luxury but a necessity. Get your full driver’s license as soon as you can.

While applying for jobs, consider going back to school. As a PR, you’re eligible for grants and loans from federal and provincial governments that cover tuition and living expenses. Look for courses with co-op options, as they can lead to full-time job offers.

Bring all your documents with you. While there’s a Nigerian community in most cities in Canada, and we greet/nod at each other when we meet, everyone is focused on their own hustle, cos the bills can be long, so don’t rely too much on community support. Even if you exchange numbers, don’t expect their calls.

African stores can be cheaper than large grocery stores, especially stuffs like chicken. Some cities also have meat sharing, like 1/8 (around $250) or 1/16 (around $130) of a cow. This can be cheaper and can last you months.

Daycare is expensive, but there are grants and subsidies available. The government is working to reduce daycare costs to $10 per day, and they’re making progress.

Finding a job isn’t easy, and you can get one from anywhere. When I arrived in December, I had several interviews, but the lack of Canadian experience was an issue. I had different resumes for different jobs (professional and survival jobs). Several low paying jobs, including a shawarma shop rejected me. You’ll begin to question myself. Thanks be to God, I eventually started a job in my field (as a Project Manager) exactly 3 months after I landed. And believe me, I don’t remember applying for job I interviewed for and eventually got. Explore job opportunities on Indeed and LinkedIn. God arranged this one for me.

It’s been 8 months since we landed Calgary and it’s been a worthwhile experience so far. God has been blessing us and coming through for us in ways we never imagined. Baba God, I’m sincerely grateful and thankful for all your blessings. Amen.

And most importantly, pray, pray and pray. I cannot overemphasize the importance of prayer. All the best to everyone applying, and I pray you get your PPRs soon. Amen.

It’s been almost 2 years since I started this journey and finally I’m in the pool😁😁😂😂.. You want to hear “I’ve gotten my ITA”? Very soon!!😊😊

Please I have a question; I entered the pool with NOC 33102 - Nurse aides, orderlies…..
Should incase (By God’s grace) I receive ITA, what’s the document that’ll be requested for to back up my job So I’ll start getting them now or know if I have all🙏🏽🙏🏽
Is it just job description letter and appointment letter??

Please help me with answers🙏🏽🙏🏽 @GraciousWords @Prettiepearlz
I am so sorry, I have been trying offline. All you need to back up your employment is your reference letter in IRCC format. If they require anything other than that, they will request for it.

This question is very important and I guess only few Nigerians pique interest in the PTEcore language exam for Canada EE. I've found limited discussion and personal experience from Nigerians whoo have taken the exam. Additionally, I am looking for a tutor who is versed with the PTECore Exam to prepare my sister for this exam.

Yes it is compulsory for a PR application.

Hello sir. Good afternoon. Regarding this police certificate issue. I somehow lost the phone number I used for my NIN registration. I’m told that the biometrics information would be sent to this number. I just paid today and I was given the receipt and noticed the lost phone number.

My question is: would this biometrics information be sent to my mail? Or is it only through sms? And can I just go to the office and do the biometrics on Monday?

I never received an SMS. I just buzzed one inspector Moshood, went to his office at Ikoyi (apongbon) and I did all that was required and got my certificate in my mail.

Reach out to me for a tutor.

It's hard to convince Nigerians to consider other options when they're used to a particular thing.

With a good practice, PTE core/academic is a lot easier compared to IELTS and CELPIP. This is what the Indians take now. Few trial questions are being tested now, but not graded yet. Advisable, anyone in need can take advantage now that they're trying to woo people with cheap questions. I believe they can get difficult too in the future when they gain popularity.

One thing about English language proficiency test is that; if you don't know the rules around it, you will be graded according to the level of your usage. If you battle to get a 5 or a 6.5, they're better users that can get an 8 or even a 9. I know you listen, read, speak and write with this same language everyday, but it's different when your level of proficiency is tested in the form of exam.

English is weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though.

You can choose from the list below and do your research:
-Major Group 72: industrial, electrical and construction trades
-Major Group 73: maintenance and equipment operation trades
-Major Group 82: supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
-Major Group 92: processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
-Minor Group 632: chefs and cooks
-Minor Group 633: butchers and bakers

For your English language proficiency test, you can give PTE core your last try. It's easier than IELTS and CELPIP. Reach out to me below for all the help you need.

If you can get your English language proficiency test, your NOC (software engineer) is a good one for provincial nomination.

I just discovered that i will need two years work experience to be legible for skilled trade worker. to get into this canada is harder than i Thought. I have not seen anyone who has taken the pte core from nigeria and come out with band 80 or 90 and i dont want to be the first one to try it out like that. i heard the exam is 150 usd. I really would like to immigrate to CA but it beginning to look like i chose the wrong profession. The study route is pretty expensive. most of the schools i see are 17k to 20k cad. Please does anyone know a better route for people like me who are software engineers seeking to imigrate to canada (crs score is not high enough).

Thanks

Hello house,

please i need guidance on my PR path, i recently entered the pool and my score is 404 which i think something is wrong cos a friend of mine with similar qualification has 465.
I am 27 years old
I have 5 years working experience
I have both BSC and ATS result which qualifies as 4 years and 1 year education in Canada.
The only difference with my friend is IELTS, she has 8 in Listening, 8 in Reading, 7 in Writing and 7 in speaking with an overall of 7.5
while i have 8 in Listening, 7.5 in Reading, 6.5 in Writing and 7 in Speaking with an overall of 7.5
I am thinking the issue is my IELTS result

Can anyone shed light as to why we have a different score in the pool even though we have similar credentials and experience

And what can i do to boost my score.

Thanks

You’re loosing a lot of points with your 6.5 in writing. You would have to re write ielts and aim for Atleast 8777 in LRSW in that order. Then depending on the pathway you’re targeting, you might seek for ways to improve your CRS as well.
