The current chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) was a member of PDP in 2023

Here below is an excerpt from The Punch Newspaper...
INEC CONDUCTING LG POLLS WILL BRING REGRETS – OSSIEC CHAIRMAN.

The Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hashim Abioye, has warned against transferring the conduct of local government elections from the state electoral commissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He warned that scrapping the state independent electoral commission for INEC to conduct LG elections would lead to regret for Nigerians.

Abioye, who stated this in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday while featuring on a programme organised by the League of Veteran Journalists, said the federal bodies had been so overburdened, that it was leaving the state little or nothing to deal with.........

..
..
BUT THEN....,,
Evidence from 2023 showed that the same Hashim Abioye actually contested in 2023 to become a member of the house of assemblies in Osun State under PDP.

THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT THE OSUN STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION IS NOT INDEPENDENT.. IT IS THERE FOR PDP.

Abioye was a member of Adeleke's legal team up to the Supreme Court, he was rewarded with an SA on Legal Matters to the Gov.

He said he had resigned last year

PDP will sweep all the seats, it's the new normal amongst Govs....only El-Rufai did manage to set a pace in that aspect.

Until the power to conduct LG elections s taken away from the State governors, LG autonomy is just a ruse.

No matter the inadequacies of INEC,it's at least a 100 times better than state electoral commissions.Nigeria must define federalism according to its peculiarities. If a national body conducting Local government elections is the best way forward for Nigeria, then I don't see anything wrong in it.

As a nation we have tried state electoral commission for over 20years now,and they have been a total disaster. In the United States, the vice president acts also as the Senate president, the secretary of state also acts as foreign minister.we must return to 1999 where opposition parties can win elections at the local government area.

I am a proud Peter Obi supporter and I condemn this in the strongest possible terms. APC people should just admit that they have nothing to offer this country and stop participating in every presidential election just to make the country worse than they made it.

If INEC is not conducting LG elections, opposition parties should not waste their resources to contest in elections organised by SIECs.

The root cause of the degradation of the Nigerian nationhood is the deliberate destruction of the local government system. We today have a situation in the country where government is not accountable to anybody. The easiest way to solve this problem if indeed we want to is to insist on having real local government. The local government are the only part of government to which the citizen could interact. The federal, state government, legislature, judiciary seems to be on their own and nobody knows the interest of who they are serving. If we have 774 local government in Nigeria and each of them can dig a gutter or any other minor project monthly, every Nigeria will feel the impact of government and in 6 months, a lot would have been done to improve the country. We all know that there is no way the local government officials will siphon all moneys allocated to them without doing anything with it as currently happens at state level. We all live in local government and if they carry our any project, we will know.
