This actually not relevant and has also been answered. Some of the worst and unsafe cars, boats, ships still have buyers. The fact that someone else is bold or foolish enough to keep using an unsafe vehicle does not mean everybody else should do the same.

If Tinubu can settle for a 15 year old plane, then Nigeria is truly broke. grin

By 2031, the plane would be 22 years old.

Whoever is cumming in should budget for another plane grin

God bless our president

My question still remains unanswered . Whoever buys the old aircraft will he park it in a museum for exhibition or it will suddenly become airwothy in the hands of a new owner?

Another question: Is there any report anywhere that said the plane is irreparable?

If my old car breaks down 7 times in 2 years, i will use church mind and know that it is irreparable.

Planes and cars can't send you voicemail that they don kpafuka. It is usually either they keep getting faults despite repairs OR they stop in the middle of the road/fall from the sky.

It is a simple sturvs.

Well, I will keep my fingers crossed to see what the new buyer would do with the old plane when it’s eventually sold .

In fact, from the day it’s reported sold I will keep tabs on the aircraft and see how long it will take for
It to fall from the sky

This new jet is just about Tinubu living like a king and nothing more .

I’m very sure if they put the old one for sale , some other entity/country/company will buy it and will be put to use . It’s not like whoever buys it will go and scrap it.

All those long paragraphs Bayo Onanuga is saying is just justify their wasteful spending in this austere period
Tinubu that upgraded from the Peugeot 504 Salon he met as official car in 1999 to Mercedes Benz G63 (Wagon), no be today him dey blow Govt money to live like a King.
Same PJ Buhari used for 8 years suddenly developed faults that they could no longer fixed or maintain, any excuse to justify blowing 150bn naira on a bigger more luxurious PJ is allowed. Let them keep it coming.....

It's either someone was shiponing money for those Jet maintenance or those doing the maintenance were doing rubbish.

That plane don get fault twice when the President traveled oversea within 6 month and once with the VP that they had to charter a private plane back to the country.

I remember a certain state visit that Tinubu did to an African country that he went in his own personal PJ because the Presidential jet was faulty.

This year, the official planes of Secretary Blinken and President Trudeau broke down.
Trudeau plane had issues twice in four months and he's had issues with CF1 planes a record four times as PM.
Canada's FG bought 9 planes in 2023.

Nigeria's major issue is transparency.
The authorities are always acting like bandits.
There should be accessible (by FOI requests) EOL estimates and updates on the Presidential fleet composition.

Fleet management is quite involved. Mothballing, adding, or replacing planes should be scheduled way in advance.
Contingency plans should also be established.
For instance, if they really need an emergency replacement, Air Peace operates Boeing 737s and many global lessors and operators will be willing to lease a plane with a minimum contractual duration of a few months to as long as is needed (at a premium). The contracts should be ironed out ahead of time. Not scrambling when unforeseen issues crop up.

For obvious reasons, the optics of buying a jet must be managed carefully. As such, leasing and then planning a budgeted expense is prolly preferred.

That said, the deal itself is quite okay and the A330 is at the lower band of a mission-capable flagship presidential aircraft. Although, I'd have preferred they bought new aircraft and spec it to their operational needs. Buy used for auxiliary units in the fleet.
This rush job of buying whatever is available on the market then retrofitting it within weeks is less than ideal.

At the end of the day, Nigeria's government is WYSIWYG.
There's a shocking level of incompetence that defies reason.

This Govt has been wasting scarce money on unnecessary projects and this PJ is one of them, i am sure he already had plan to buy a bigger and more luxurious Jet and so came the excuses. Why didn't they buy a similar sized Boeing Jet at probably a lesser cost? Nigeria is broke to the Masses but not the ruling class....

Majorly because the govt has eroded whatever goodwill they should be enjoying early into the administration.

Imagine the kind outrage we are seeing buying the lower band of Presidential aircraft, what do you think will happen if they bought brand new with specs?

The president did not buy a brand new aircraft, what was bought is over 10yrs old. So what else do you want? For president to buy Keke Marwa?

Does he have to fly private? If we are tightening belt and our people are suffering, he cannot be living like we are in the midst of plenty.
He also can continue using his personal private jet as a show of his own personal sacrifice, after all it can assumed that the origin of the wealth that enabled him to afford to own a private jet was gotten through his proximity to power.

Hmmm, why has no one asked what would Peter Obi do?

How private investor go sey seize Nigerian government owned property in the UK to sell on Ebay of all places.

I think it's fake news. For 1 liverpool is a shithole. I can't imagine nigerian government having property there, let alone property worth that much...in bloody Liverpool.

Then I also won't imagine any house being sold on bloody Ebay.

Still, the news funny die sha. What a country.

I saw the news also.

Amosun's administration in Ogun state really need to be investigated o; who knows what other aggrieved investor is lying in wait to drag the country to the cleaners due to his maladministration in the state. I've been reading lately that he really cancelled a lot of contracts/projects arbitrarily just to spite Gbenga Daniel back then.

Instead of being remorseful, his aides are busy dragging Pat Utomi who has come out to confirm indeed Amosun was moving mad by cancelling contracts here and there.

A personal private jet is different than an official jet. An official jet is equipped for him to communicate and do some emergency services even when in flight, The personal jet will not have the security features of the official jet.

Maybe next thing is why do we need govt house and govt office when they can be ruling from their personal house and personal offices

Why do we need to ask what Peter Obi will do? The same Obi that bought 400 SUVs for traditional rulers while he was governor? Imagine how wasteful he would be as president
