Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by AntiChristian: 5:49pm On Aug 23 |
Jesus says: As you go, preach this message: ‘ The kingdom of heaven is near.’ 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10: 7- 8 ) Jesus simply forbids collecting wages for preaching the Gospel! Paul says: Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 18For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages.” (1 Timothy 5:17-18) Paul says in another verse: If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much for us to reap a material harvest from you? (1 Corinthians 9 :11) Paul's own is to collect them wages, harvest, money, Kudi, ego,... !!! To pay wages or not to pay? |

People will just be stressing themselves over something they understand next to nothing about. Who told you that the Bible is a book for the understanding of peasants? 3 Likes |

AntiChristian:Two very different instances, Jesus is talking of evangelism why Paul is talking of church administration and Paul was not literally talking of wages but that that those who labour in the church should be taken care of. 5 Likes |

Steep: Are you saying church administration was started by Paul and not Jesus hence Jesus had no church till he left? Is Jesus together with the 12 disciples and others not a church? Was there no administration? |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by AntiChristian: 9:29pm On Aug 23 |
MrPresident1: This is stale news! The first few couple of decades after Jesus the Bible does doesn't exist as it is now! How were people saved? Enough with this Holy spirit interpretation nonsense! Each books of the Bible were written separately and then collated later according to the whims and caprices of some so-called church fathers! Other books they don't want where simply rejected! |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by lawbabs: 6:50am On Aug 24 |
AntiChristian: Don't take that out of context also. There are clear basis for rejecting other books. The criteria for accepting any book for canonization of the scriptures and the three elements that guided the church elders at that time include: 1. Church leaders often appealed to the agreement of the book with what they called “the rule of faith.” This meant that the teaching of the book followed the beliefs the church regarded as acceptable and correct. 2. The book had to demonstrate apostolicity. This criterion required authorship by an apostle or by the associate of an apostle (as in the instance of Mark and Luke). 3. The church applied the test of universality. This required that the book be accepted by a broad geographical segment of the church. Yes there were many good books but could not fit into these three yardsticks. Thanks The Lord will return soon! Will you be ready? |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by AntiChristian: 8:04am On Aug 24 |
lawbabs: When have you guys been saying the Lord will return soon? Even the Bible records John, Jesus and others saying it about 2000 years ago! And it's possible you'll die before anything happens! Theory too much! |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by lawbabs: 10:29pm On Aug 24 |
AntiChristian: It's possible I die before his return. But don't forget he will judge both the living and the dead. You better make your way right before Him. |

AntiChristian:Sir you clearly do not understand what Paul was saying. Please read the entire chapter (1 cor 9). Reading one or 2 verses out of context will not help you here. Paul was clearly against wages in exchange of the gospel. Also read, Acts 20:33-34 33 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 2 Corinthians 11:7 7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? 1 Thessalonians 2:9 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. Again, I commend you, you always ask the right questions. |

tctrills: All these does not mean he didn't ask for payment now? Someone asking for wages for his work is not regarded as being covetous! And of course he is preaching freely without hindrance! |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by tctrills: 10:49am On Aug 29 |
AntiChristian:Actually all this means he is not asking for payment. He clearly states it. And on the contrary, there were many hindrance to his preaching including imprisonment. He was clearly talking about payment. Please read the verses again. It clearly states, we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. |

tctrills: He asked for payment. What does this three verses mean? Paul says: Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages.” (1 Timothy 5:17-18) Paul says in another verse: If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much for us to reap a material harvest from you? AntiChristian:A few things I told you to read the entire 1 cor 9 Just the very next verse If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ Paul was indeed preaching against wages for the gospel and not in support of it. |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by AntiChristian: 12:02pm On Aug 29 |
tctrills: Summary of Key Points 1. Paul's Rights as an Apostle: Paul asserts that he has the right to be financially supported by the churches he serves (1 Corinthians 9:3-14). He uses examples from the Old Testament and the practices of other apostles to reinforce his point. 2. Willingness to Forego Rights: Despite having the right to receive wages, Paul chooses to forgo this right to avoid hindering the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:15-18). He emphasizes that his primary goal is to spread the gospel freely, showing his dedication and love for the message. 3. Becoming All Things to All People: Paul explains his strategy of becoming "all things to all people" in order to win some to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:19-23). This demonstrates his adaptability and commitment to reaching diverse audiences. Conclusion In summary, 1 Corinthians 9 does not forbid collecting wages for preaching the gospel; rather, it highlights the balance between rights and responsibilities. Paul argues for the right to receive support but exemplifies the selfless attitude of prioritizing the gospel over personal gain. Hope you can digest this fully! If you check Luke you will see that Luke will support Paul in this matter somehow! What Jesus taught was that collecting wages is not a right! |
Re: Should Wages Be Collected For Preaching The Gospel? Jesus Vs Paul! by tctrills: 12:09pm On Aug 29 |
AntiChristian:Again you are wrong. Paul's argument was simple. He was comparing the priests of old to himself an apostle of Jesus Christ. If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. 15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. The Priests in the old testament are different from the apostles of Jesus Christ that's Paul's message there. |

tctrills: Let me break your back now! Paul says: Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 18For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages.” (1 Timothy 5:17-18) Which scripture was Paul quoting that includes the worker is worthy of his wages? |

"If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material support from you?" 1Corinthians 9:11 Paul wasn't talking about money as salary or wages for the ministry rather he is advising the brothers in Corinth to support the ministry with whatever they had as himself and other traveling overseers need support during their journey. He never had a wife nor child that will inherit any property so whatever our brothers give our circuit overseers is to support them in the circuit work. This may be really difficult for you to grasp but that's what we practice among true Christians today that's why you can't see any member of the true Christians begging on the streets like members of other false religions will do even begging in the name of their god who supposed to provide their needs. Psalms 23:1; 37:25 May you have PEACE! |

AntiChristian: Community of maniputors The same Jesus said..... Whenever you enter someone’s home, first say, ‘May God’s peace be on this house.’ If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you. Don’t move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay. Where is contradiction here? 1 Like |

AntiChristian: Boss I showed you other verses in the very same chapter and even from other letters of Paul. It is so clear that paul was not in support of wages for preaching. Now compare the word of Paul to that of Jesus Christ. Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. And Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages. Both are basically saying the same thing |

That's how terrible the sin of paedophilia is. matt 18.6 If anyone causes harm to these little ones—those who believe in me—, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. |

AntiChristian: DID JESUS AGREE WITH PAUL? YES. DID PAUL PREACH THE SAME MESSAGE AS JESUS? YES LUKE 10.5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.
