Good stuff. At least you've made a decent attempt at valuation. I've been an Oando shareholder for years so I want the shares to go to the moon, but the wild fantasies here, ehn?

You're assuming that both companies have similar debt levels (they don't) and asset efficiency (debatable). Remember that both the shareholders and the creditors have claims on the assets of a company, so the shares of the company with lower debt are probably more valuable, if you keep assets constant. Maybe redo the calculation with net assets (Assets - Total debt)?

He is only drawing our attention to see how unrealistic $1 per share for an Oando share is. Many are placing Oando shares at par with ₦3k+ of Seplat share without knowing that Oando current valuation at ₦75 is not far from the ₦3k+ Seplat valuation.

An Oando share at ₦200 has a larger valuation than a Seplat share at ₦3k+.

$1 per an Oando share is delusional.

Why would Wale wait until Oando shares are selling at N70 before buying when he could have bought much cheaper when the shares were selling at N5?
The people buying are most likely new or institutional investors who now believe in the future prospects of Oando

How many people were willing to sell at N5?
Volume is determined by sellers when they feel the price is right.

When it comes to work ethics and conditions, Agip is the worst of them all. I once worked at the Ebocha Oil Center, one of their storage, preprocessing, and distribution fields, and I know what I witnessed there. Oando has been collaborating with Agip for quite some time—I remember seeing them during my time there. Most of the operations were already being run by Nigerians. I believe they had a few Italians at their gas plant in Omoku.

But do you really think the issues of insecurity, volatility, and asset theft will disappear once Oando fully takes charge?

Nigerian banks particularly the big five always know how to navigate their way. This capital raise currently on, will be a case of if you want more cake, bake more, they will absorb the dilution of their shares with improved earnings and pay better dividends. Zenith has shown the positive signs.

Many people were selling and dumping Oando at N5. If someone like me could buy the volumes I now have at around N5, then Wale could have bought as much as he needed. All he would have to do is to placee a standing instruction to his brokers /registrars to mop up all the units that he needed, even within the range of N5-N15 per share before the recent rise.

Why will OTEDOLA wait until FBN gets to #19 before buying when the same FBN stayed months on sub 3 and 4?

Otedola was an outsider when FBN was at N3-N4 and might not have been aware of the prospects and potentials of the bank at that time. So he may jump in only when he gets some info.
But Wale has always been the driver in Oando and in charge of all the strategic plan s of the company and cooking all the deals from the beginnig.

Hello everyone. Pls I need your input with something. Is there any stockbroker in Nigeria that offers limit buy order. For example if I expect a stock to rise from #50 to #55 and then I place a buy order with the stock broker to buy the stock only if it rises upto #55 or even above #50 and if it doesn't rises the trade is not executed. Your prompt responses would be gratefully appreciated.

You don't need all this if you trade online ,realtime .As the market open/progress you will see available offers that suit your entry point ,then you buy immediately.....Try Morgan capital for real time online trading and low brokerage.

Na wa o. Did you even bother to read anything I wrote? I am a multi-year Oando shareholder. I am up nearly 700% already. I am still not selling. If you people pump it up to 200, I'm sitting pretty.

The beauty of a well-reasoned valuation is that you can interrogate it and see whether it makes sense. You can't interrogate silly stuff like "Oando don cast o." The person who estimated value at N170+ per share using SEPLAT multiple is on the right track, but made a clear error: S/he did not account for the difference in level of debt between the two companies. After we get the correct mathematical value, we can then adjust for intangibles, like the perceived connections Oando has. No be rocket science na.

Let's get collectively smarter as investors. Attacking people personally for no reason isn't the way.

My View on the Illusion of Stock Overvaluation and Why Investors Should Rethink Stock Valuation.
When Total was trading at sub-N400 a year ago, it appeared overvalued in the sights of many investors.
Low liquidity and low volume were also cited by some forum members, with daily prices sometimes static. Then, speculations by retail investors emerged that there was a hidden gem in the company. The story changed, and the price is now heading towards the N1,000 mark, same is true for OANDO, We NSEMPA members single handedly dictate its current price.
This motivated me to research why the concept of stock valuation using the traditional methods of FA, CCA, ABV, GGM, EV/EBITDA, P/S RATIO, P/B RATIO, DCF, DDM, P/E RATIO
All these may no longer be absolutely relevant in modern settings. No wonder the legendary investor Warren Buffett described the modern stock market as a casino due to massive participation by retail investors. Behavioral and financial psychology is now the order of the day.
In light of this, I came up with the following supporting opinions to buttress the assertion that the concept of stock overvaluation lies in the eyes of an individual(buyer), not the dictate of the market.

In the era of digital mobile technologies and social media, the investing landscape has undergone a significant transformation. The emergence and active participation of retail investors has revolutionized the way stock prices are determined, rendering traditional notions of overvaluation obsolete. It's time for investors to abandon the concept of overvaluation and embrace a new reality: a stock's value is ultimately determined by what individual investors are willing to pay.

_Subjective Valuation_

Stock valuation has always been subjective, with different investors holding varying opinions on a stock's worth. What one investor considers overvalued, another might see as undervalued. This disparity highlights the futility of relying solely on traditional valuation metrics.

_The Rise of Retail Investors

The influx of retail investors has demonstrated that collective individual opinions can drive stock prices, making traditional notions of overvaluation less relevant. As more investors participate in the market, their collective sentiment and speculation shape stock prices. This concept alone was the reason my boss Oga Agba has been locked out of the market. He is still waiting for the index to obey the dictate of Ichimoku and fibonacci. 😆 🤣 😂 😹

_Speculation and Sentiment

Speculation and market sentiment, fueled by digital technologies and social media, significantly impact stock prices. This makes it challenging to determine intrinsic value, as prices are influenced by various market dynamics, such as momentum, trends, and herd behavior.

_A New Era of Investing_

The digital age has ushered in a new era of investing, where information dissemination and accessibility have empowered individual investors. Traditional valuation metrics are no longer dominant, as investors rely on diverse sources of information to inform their decisions.

_Price Discovery_

The true value of a stock is ultimately determined by what investors are willing to pay, making price discovery a dynamic and constantly evolving process. This reality underscores the importance of understanding market sentiment and speculation.

_Efficient Market Hypothesis_

The efficient market hypothesis suggests that prices reflect all available information, making it challenging to consistently achieve returns in excess of the market's average. This theory supports the idea that stock prices are influenced by individual opinions and speculations.

_Behavioral Finance_

Behavioral finance highlights how psychological biases and emotions influence investment decisions. This further supports the notion that stock prices are influenced by individual opinions and speculations rather than solely by fundamental valuations.

Lastly, the concept of overvaluation is no longer relevant in today's investing landscape. Investors must adapt to a new reality, where stock prices are determined by individual opinions, speculation, and market sentiment. By embracing this shift, investors can better navigate the complexities of the modern market and make more informed investment decisions.

I mostly disagree. How will you know when to enter and exit a given stock if you only rely on subjective sentiment?

But if you think investors cannot rely on objective valuations anymore, then what you're saying is that stock investing is just gambling. And in gambling, the House always wins, and the gambler, on average, loses. You want to be Bet9ja, "the House," not the stupid drunken gambler on the street.

So disciplined investors should stop picking single stocks and just buy the whole market, i.e. "the House". Some stocks will do like Total and Oando, some will be Nestle, but on average, you'll be fine.

I understand your concerns and agree that relying solely on subjective sentiment can be challenging. However, I'd argue that the market has evolved to incorporate both objective valuations and subjective sentiment. While traditional valuation metrics are still relevant, they shouldn't be the only considerations.
I'm not suggesting that investing is equivalent to gambling, but rather that market dynamics have changed. The rise of retail investors and social media has introduced new factors that influence stock prices.
Your suggestion to 'buy the whole market' is a valid strategy, as it provides diversification and can mitigate risks. Nevertheless, disciplined investors can still find success in picking individual stocks by combining fundamental analysis with an understanding of market sentiment and trends.
It's about striking a balance between objective valuations and subjective sentiment, rather than relying solely on one approach.
Some stocks are invariably benefiting from retail investors participation in the market.

You are relatively correct. However, the TA chat can lead to market timing and lock you out of the merry, especially in a low liquid market like NGX. The mix of market sentiment in combination with TA and FA is just the ideal practice in modern settings.
Ask Oga Agba how long he has been out of the market. 😆 🤣 😂, then you will understand the need to utilize sentiments.

I agree to everything written, with a little twist and a balanced approach to all. In this market, one need not be too rigid about a certain strategy. You have to be flexible in your approach. But atlas, you can not force someone to be what they don't want to be. As it is, only those willing to approach market with a soft heart obtain certain juice out of it. Sentiment works, TA works, FA works too. A combination of one or two is even perfect.
