Hi everyone,
Pls I wanted to ask what ‘pre approval request is being processed’ means after paying for the visa fee. Also, how long does it typically take until the pre approval request is approved. Thank you!

Ajala444:
I had my IW appointment yesterday (29th August) at OIS Services dropoff centre in Lagos. I was scheduled initially for October 2024 then the embassy automatically rescheduled me for the 24th of July but I was out of the country so I had to reschedule that and it was on the 29th August.
Following the communication that the DHL will no longer be used for dropoff, I got an email last week Friday to go to OIS on the day of my appointment 2 hours after my initially scheduled appointment.
I got to the OIS centre at 11am (my appointment was at 9am) and there was a crowd outside. I was told I had to get a number and I was given number 108 meanwhile they just called number 80 to come in.
I was not called in till 12 noon and we were kept waiting in a room till about 1pm when we were called into the room where the drop off was being done. I was there till 2:45pm and the process was very slow with few people attending to the large crowd of people.
Additionally, we all had to pay 48,000 Naira which they called service fee for using the OIS facility.
It was a long and tiring process and it is obvious the OIS team are not fully ready to take over this process. The office is not fully furnished and they are just taking it as it goes for now.
Hopefully, it will normalise within one month. If you have IW to schedule, I advise to wait till they get themselves before scheduling.

PS: I am still not able to create an account on the website so I am unable to track my application.

Why would they ask people to pay service charge after paying so much for visa? So unfair.
DHL was free.

It means they are yet to approve your request to book an appointment. You should hear from them in 48hrs or less. Keep checking your spam box.

Thank you for the clarity. My next question is this :
If an individual got a date last year with another country’s passport and a different surname and now in Nigeria has gotten the Nigerian passport but has a different surname on the Nigerian passport. Now the individual will rather have the visa on the Nigerian passport rather than the other country will this be accepted at the embassy?

Please note both passports are available

1. Thank you. God is the over all boss. Well it can be human error, you know, human and typo error is acceptable in all organisations. What you should focus on is to see your VISA inside your passport physically 🤗

2. Approved and Issued are interwoven so you can be dancing to Phyno or Mr Raw.

If the initial application was done in Nigeria then No
I would consider this a new application because the passport nationality is different and surname..

Unless you can update your DS160 form. You would still have to explain change of surname

Hey 🤠

@beautyuche

1. USA & Nigeria accepts dual citizenship, and this is why you were able to secure a date with the other country's passport. Since both countries passports are available, i would rather you tendered the passport of the other country in order to avoid confusion.

2. When you have gotten your VISA, you should go and do affidavit of your names so that everything will align together. Your Nigerian citizenship is not running away 😊 you can tender it in your next renewal, and by then, the affidavit would have aligned your names.

Best Wishes 🙏

Abuja
Visa Type : B1
Appt Time: 9:30
Status: Approved

VO: Good Morning can i have your passport?
R: Passes it
VO: You are married, are you going with your wife?
R: No
VO: Do you have any kids?
R: No
VO: Where in the United States are you going?
R: I am going to New York.
VO: Why?
R: To sit for the New York Bar Exam
VO: Why is that?
R: My Firm does transnational transactions and have a lot of clients across the world including the US, so when i sit and pass the bar, i have the benefit of becoming an international lawyer, because a licenced attorney in New York, through reciprocity can practice not only in over 30 states in the US but other common law jurisdictions like the New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Also i am not the only one in my firm that has an international license to practice. We have two other lawyers.
VO: How many lawyers are in your firm?
R: 9
VO: How many are licensed to practice in the US or other jurisdictions?
R: Two, one in the US and the other one just passed the SQE in England.
VO: Where in New York would you be staying?
R: I can’t confirm that yet, as that is conditional on the board of law examiners, post registration, there are six locations, Albany, Long Island, New York city, Buffalo white plains and saratoga springs., it could be any of these locations.
VO: Do you have relatives in the US
R: Yes my younger brother, he is a student.
VO: Where does he stay?
R: Nashville, Tennesee
VO: Who is paying for your accommodation in New York?
R: My Firm would be doing that.
VO: Are they booking you in a hotel or…
R: Whatever accommodation of my choosing
VO: How long would you be staying in New York?
R: About a month, because there are three components to the exam, the UBE and the MPRE and NYLE , they about a month apart and the… VO Cuts in…
VO: In Texas, its the 3 days in a row nonstop you get to write all the exams, it was hell for me, it traumatized, i never want to practice again.
R: Oh wow, thats something, i guess new york is a bit fair but the studying has actually been very hectic.
VO: Yes i feel for you all i can wish you is luck.
VO: Continues typinggg (at this point my heart was in my mouth but i was hopeful)
So i have approved your visa (hands me out the white paper) I wish you good luck
R: I really do need it
VO: Yes you do, all the best.

This sounds like a fun interview. Good interaction. Congratulations and good luck in passing your bar exams.

1. You will still have to wait for the pickup notification before further action, but to hint you, you must register on the 3rd party webpage for your pick up to be successful.

PS: Check VISA status below ....

I have a little problem. I filled 15 July 2024 as my date of travel in ds160 and chose lagos as my venue. Some months later I paid the fees and booked appointment for September 2024 in Abuja as abuja had a closer available date than lagos.

My questions are:
Do I need to fill another ds160 form since it is just the date of travel that is wrong?

A friend told me even if I fill a new one , I will not be able to link it with my profile as the old website no more works. Can another ds160 be used for interview even if it is not linked with profile?

Does the venue of the interview I already chose as lagos in ds160 matter ? Since I wasn’t able to get interview slot in lagos eventually.

I've been trying to pay for 2 days straight using the same dollar card I used for my UK visa but it keeps saying payment is unsuccessful.
I work in a bank so I got our card team to check, it seems the payment doesn't go anywhere.

If anyone has made a successful payment lately, how many attempts did you make before it was successful?

Hey 🤠

1. Some consular officers does not like to crack their brains, looking for answers or joining information together during work hours, because of exhaustion or stress or pressure to impress their supervisors, and this may lead to your impromptu VISA rejection, otherwise, filing another DS-160 is just a formality.

2. Fill another DS -160. There must be an avenue for you to update it in the new portal and print another VISA appointment letter to align, otherwise, you can email the DS-160 confirmation page (as an attachment) to the embassy as an awareness.

3. Regardless of the sense-2 above ( either i was able to update it or not), i will still fill another DS-160 and take it along (with the old one) to the interview. Updating DS-160 to your current status/state is of utmost importance because of the sense-1 above.

PS: In the case you were unable to fill another DS-160 for one reason or the other, you will still be able to attend your interview and defend yourself orally.

PS: You can take pre-Lagos DS-160 to Abuja, or Abuja to Lagos respectively, you will still be interviewed (according to this new guidelines). But i will personally not risk it if i have the means of filling another form.

Best Wishes 🙏

For those trying to make payment, you can pick the First Bank payment option, follow instructions for Non First Bank account holders. It allows applicants to pay with transfer from any Nigerian Bank.

Just thought to put that out there. I had been struggling with the pay with card option when the other option works flawlessly.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I saw this option but felt that using the debit/credit card would mean no waiting time to book an appointment.

How long did it take you to get an appointment after paying via First Bank?

So from what I read, if you can successfully pay with a card then you can schedule an appointment immediately. However, if you take the transfer option like I did, you'll have to wait 24hrs for the payment to be confirmed before you can proceed to schedule an appointment.

🤠

1. Login and visit Create a ticket'' option in your scheduling account on usvisaappt.com to send the screenshot of your activation email to the embassy alongside with brief explanation of why you missed the information. They should send a reminder to you " by default " Or call the helpline directly. But don't wait for things to happen. Make it happen.

1. Yes, if the name on the account matches that of the VISA applicant or your funder as indicated in your VISA application.

2. You might however, receive 221g/ administrative case in order for the embassy to research the legitimacy of your domiciliary account.

PS: Domiciliary account takes a bit longer to verify than a local bank with which they are more familiar.

For people having this issue (Duplicate after deleting an application), don't panic. The error stops after 48 hours or so, According to them it takes 48 hours for a deleted account to migrate.

I can now finally progress with payment.

1. If your accomodation is going to be provided by your host, that amount should be sufficient, but if you want to stay in a rented apt for the duration (4- wks) , that amount is going to be scantily enough. Either way round it's kind of enough.

PS: Staying 4 wks for graduation ceremony, without side activities is much. Why not 2- wks ?

It is working, click the "generate" button and it generate a reciept that shows a section for Non-FBN account holder. Click the hyperlink and you will be prompted to submit some information. After which it will generate a FBN account for you to pay into. Once you made payment into that account, it automatically confirms payment.

NB: That was based on my experience yesternight. Waiting for the 24hrs wait before booking appointment.
Cheers
