With the way Tinubu, his appointees and government is moving ehn.... At this point, it's looking like a case of " Na who go die go die, Na who remain go remain"

VAT to be increased to 10%

He knows he's likely a one-term President.
He will not be prematurely removed.

So he'll press ahead with his reforms.
Whoever comes after him can reverse his policies like Yar'Adua did.

Is it under APC that smuggling started ?

Since I was in primary school smugglers have always existed .

APC is just a party that blames everything and everyone for its self inflicted woes. They have blamed people , blamed things and even blamed God. 🤦‍♂️

If smuggling is the problem , isn’t it expected that they give the agency responsible for curbing smuggling ( customs) an ultimatum to reduce smuggling to the barest minimum ?

Why do they always think everybody is daft to believe all these their mumbo jumbo excuse for incompetence ?

As long as conditions in one side is better there will be smuggling regardless of how much you tighten the border

you know as well as i do that border controls will continue to fail
those directives by ppmc officials [no jerrycans in stations, no peddling by stations) also failed
any form of petrol subsidy is going to fail because multiple nigerians will turn it into a hustle

it is the same way we cannot fix oil theft

police, customs, frsc, army - they will simply collect their cut and send the smugglers on their way.

50% of the current problem is because it is more profitable to move fuel to the border rather than sell here. if i buy fuel from mobil at 620 and sell it in togo at 1300, it is good business for me. that is what diversion is.

as a 101% hustler, you know that all border controls are as effective as police checkpoints.

This is the truth and nothing but the truth

You are looking at it from one side.

As the naira continues to fall, it will always be profitable to sell in Togo. Even at 855, it is profitable.

So a poor man in Sokoto should buy fuel at 1500 per litre, because we don't want smugglers to carry fuel?

Is this really the best solution

How much is the poor man in Niger Republic buying it?

They should get out with their ridiculous lies and excuses. Smuggling has always been in existence.

The uncomfortable truth is that the poor man in Sokoto should buy fuel at 1500 per liter.
That is the fair market price.

Say your relative is running a store.
You may get merchandise at F&F discount. A regular customer will get at cost price + profit margin. Your relative makes less profit on you.

Now let's run an hypothetical where your relative buys the product at N1000.
Sells it to you at N600. That's a loss of N400.
Let's go further. You start collecting more products than you need at N600 and reselling them on the open market at N1300.
How long will your relative remain in business?

We've structured our economy to run on subsidized gasoline and it is unsustainable.
If we were a country of 5 million people, it wouldn't be a big deal.
The trouble is how to fix this debacle without sparking widespread unrest.

-Lord

This is the absolute truth
Why does the man in Sokoto deserve half price discount over the man 10miles away in Niger Republic? Or the man in Ilaro over the man 10miles away in Benin Republic?

So I will buy for double price when someone that lives 3 bus stops away has for half my price?

If you like put atomic bomb on the border, people will always move from scarcity to plenty

.....absolutely, before December we will all be feeling it and dropping testimonies instead of usual wailings on this board.

And by 2027 everyone will thumb print with 10 fingers for Jagaban second term

It's both.
Smuggling is a scourge. And the bean counters at NNPC also pad the numbers.

And there is the incentive for them to pad the numbers because govt will pay for it

If by October 1st there’s no revolt in this country , I will believe indeed juju is real and Tinubu’s juju man is the greatest juju man that ever liveth.

If I was a betting man, I will confidently bet that nothing, absolutely nothing will happen. E sure me kpai.

By 2026, he will realign with those he needs, ground boys will weaponize poverty, make the elections about tribe, and it would be smooth sailing into another term.

Someone who just finished NYSC and seeing the condition of the country should enter street and start hustling for a legit means of income. either a job or training that will lead to income

Tinubu himself marched against one of these policies in 2012.
Most politicians in Nigeria will damn the economic consequences and reverse fiscally responsible policies if it would guarantee 4 more years of access to the Treasury.
