raumdeuter: There is some room to maneuver. Tinubu's administration has stashed away at least N5T in the past year from FX and subsidy savings. For instance, in May 2024, revenue for the preceding month was N2.19T. FAAC shared N1.2T. In June 2024, revenue was N2.32T. FAAC shared N1.14T. They claim they want to use it to set up an infrastructure fund. We are in a tight, uncomfortable situation. An Argentina or Lebanon grade crisis is still a while out. -Lord 1 Like |

liveLongNprospa: Buhari devalued when their main product collapsed in price Of course part of their shareprice rise is in anticipation of getting favourable deals but their main product is also selling for more Naira. This is a shareprice of a stock denominated in Naira but selling their product in dollars. If their shareprice tracks fundamentals perfectly, I would expect their marketcap to mirror the change in dollar-Naira rate |

Roland17: People working with NLNG are parking their cars and only using it when it's absolutely necessary. What's the fate of people earning less than a third of their salaries with similar responsibilities? Someone was asking if Fx savings from dangote will ease exchange rate pressure and I said in theory it should but it looks like this country is cursed. Nothing ever gets better. Meanwhile, I checked one filling station on my way home, they have changed price to 1200. . May God help us at this point. 6 Likes |

raumdeuter:After Kerosene, what was the next major source of cooking fuel before and during Abacha? I know gas didn't become mainstream until the 2000s, so for most families I want to imagine it was either kerosene or wood (in its various forms). We've had 4 democratic governments pre APC, that your point of reference today is one of the most brutal dictatorships the country has witnessed is telling. 2 Likes |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 8:55pm On Sep 03 |
Theflint1: So you are saying its false that it has never been this bad? We are making the same point The 4 democratic govt chose to avoid the problem and push it to the next regime. Tinubu has decided to face the problem and not push it to anyone |

iamoyindamola:If these people don't want poly students they should kuku scrap polytechnics and be done with it, instead of one stupid form of discrimination every other day. This is further proof of a nation in decline. People in working countries are able to chart their lives with high school diplomas and 6 month certifications gotten from the comfort of their bedrooms, yet people that went through 4 year degree programs have to deal with this. 1 Like |

raumdeuter:No, first part was me questioning the whole abacha stove thing, sure there must have been other indicators of bad governance from that dictatorship, but that particular reference might be us just viewing the past through our modern lenses. Options no dey now like e dey then...PDP came and gave us options, APC has messed things up so badly that even their staunchest supporters are drawing parallels with the nations must brutal dictatorial government. PDP had a plan for subsidy removal and privatization of critical assets, APC came with their economic sabotage protests (ref: Kayode Fayemi) and the rest is history. Subsidy was supposed to have been removed since (ref: GloriousGbola), but APC fought against it, only to remove it in the toughest of times. 3 Likes |

Theflint1: The stove was named that during the regime of Abacha it was a new level of widespread suffering that people didn't witness before If Jonathan excuse for not removing subsidy was that people protested then he wasn't not ready for it PDP can also protest this Tinubu removal if they don't agree with it, that's the purpose of opposition and not to be whining about what APC did as opposition. If you don't agree then protest too, no one is stopping them |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 10:14pm On Sep 03 |
Theflint1: There are 3 elements 1. Tinubu economic liberalisation caused many stocks to go up almost double in Naira terms 2. Naira unpegging means their fundamentals are better as they earn in dollar so their valuation in Naira will go up naturally 3. Market speculation that they will get good Govt patronage now Tinubu is in power They have 4x since Tinubu came to power. At least 70% is for the first 2 reasons 10 year trend is not that significant as oil price was in a slump from 2014 to 2021 so will reflect in their shareprice performance |

Anyone know where I can get the actual financials of NNPC. Tried checking for it online but cant seem to find it. Just news report on it. Some of the answers are likely there. Also, I dont see the conspiracy with the Oando thing. All one has to do was to look at their FS. They've just turned the corner after back to back to back losses, of course, the market's gonna react to that. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by User09: 10:30pm On Sep 03 |
Ibime: Not sure the bolded is correct. Most O&G companies have all pricing - Costs and Revenue in USD, so they tend to move in sync. Even their valuations are usually in USD In terms of their disclosure, a huge chunk of their revenue/profit came from trading of crude and petroleum products |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 10:34pm On Sep 03 |
User09: Yes but their valuation is in Naira, so even if their Earnings stand still, if their shareprice reflects their fundamentals perfectly, it should go up by Dollar-Naira delta. Also all their costs can't be in dollars. I am sure they are paying most of their staff in Naira. |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by User09: 10:41pm On Sep 03 |
Ibime: Maybe but only a rookie would look at or act based on a Naira valuation for an O&G company/Oil linked asset. The true story here may rely on further disclosure on the trading bit but I looked out for their related party disclosure and didnt see much. so maybe just maybe a favorable one/year for them 3 Likes |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by User09: 10:51pm On Sep 03 |
Ibime: To be fair, anyone's in line to doubt the Nigerian stock exchange as it barely follows fundamentals. I just thought looking at Oando's, there wasnt much there that looked out of place |
