True
Scoring first helped
So Benin had to come out and play
When they were playing compact in the first half, we were finding it difficult to pass
And because we didn't have ball playing midfielders, we were struggling to control the game

Better teams might have scored us first and that would have been a problem
We can't play with this midfield against better teams
They would punish us severely

That's my issue most time. We should be a side, based on caliber alone, to be cracking down such compact puzzles by now. We just struggle against them and it's really frustrating. We need that formula sha.

We were slow in transition in 1st half anyway.

But now wey him don get Npfl assistant..those ones will want to squeeze in deir players o 😀😀

I doubt he will bend. AE that is so selection conscious? He might give a slot each and no more. Cos that kind thing no concern am. Besides, those two, i rate them higher than this kine thing sha

The Benin player who mistimed his clearance for Ademola to steal the ball was the same player who ran back and nudged him forward into a better position to score our first goal 🤣🤣🤣. No be juju be that?

FunFacts

- Gernot Rohr gave Victor Osimhen his first official/competitive Super Eagles appearance in Uyo back in 2017 vs South Africa in an Afcon Qualifiers.
Osimhen featured for 5mins off the bench as an 18yrs old rookie.

Nigeria lost that game 2-0.

- 7yrs later and Victor Osimhen Scores his 22nd International Goal vs Gernot Rohr's Benin Republic in UYO to go third in the Super Eagles All time Top Scorers chart.

Nigeria wins 3-0.

Thank you Rohr and also, Get Out!!! 😁

End of the road. Nigeria vs Japan likely.
If we didn't concede that late minute goal and the match iin our 2nd game and it ended 2.1, we would have avoided group E leader.

Lookman is the only CAF rep on the Balon d'or list.

Watch as CAF will soon play funny and pick one of those Moroccans or Senegalese. He's undisputed to me.

As for female category... The Oshoala era has come to an end and there's not even an exceptional cadet squad player that's showing any sort of promise to reach these heights.

as for the female, we had Akide but when she was winding down Perpetual came up, when she was about to retire Oshoala took over. Right now I can’t even see anybody both in the main team and the cadet teams. Scouting for our NT have been poor in recent years

I see. Eguaveon needs to stay on. If we keep changing coaches, we will never have a system or pattern of play.

One thing u cant associate eguavoen with is corruption…during mikel u-17 years,he was live in a radio program wc he opened up dt he rejected a 500k bribe from one of a prospective players agent and challenged anybody to call the live programme if he has collected anybody’s money b4 selecting the squad..no body called to challenge him
after the 2003 U-17 World Cup he said the boys were not experienced as they are true U-17, as a young lad who didn’t know there are fake U-17 I thought ‘what’s this one talking about’ but now i understand what he meant

Those years of Makinwa and co. One thing about AE is selection is his forte. But tactically, that's the crux
his in-game management is subpar

True
I like the team unity I see amongst the boys
They seem more united and the way they all ran to celebrate with Osimhen yesterday shows they all support one another
Team unity is an excellent foundation for growth and success..
If we support AE, he has the makings of a good coach
22 SE games handled, 15 wins..
The man clearly has it in him
He just needs to be given time to grow with the team

I don't agree, if Boniface had converted some chances in the first half we would have been 2 or 3 goals up at the end of 45 mins, not scoring early enough in the first half was the only sin committed by the Eagles and Boniface in particular, did those chances just happened? no nah, For a team that scored 3 unreplied goals shows they did so many things right including positioning and build-up plays. Even at afcon the Eagles never played with such a level of organisation. Let's not be too critical, Rohr and his team had no answer to the Eagles even after 45 minutes, they were lucky to be down by just a goal in the first half. It would have been a complete whitewash if Osihmen had converted all his chances too.

My brother, Benin came to pack the bus.
Just understand that first
All they needed to do was stay compact, squeeze spaces, try to stay in the game, and hit us on the counter whenever possible..
Watch how fast they moved the ball from defence to attack whenever they had it..

If we hadn't scored first, we may have been in trouble because they would have grown into the game..
The chances Boniface missed is part of the "luck" that park-bus teams depend on..
Because they didn't come out to play, we were always going to have more possession and therefore more chances created
But we were slow in that first half..

I'm speaking based on our first half performance alone

In the second half, we were always going to do better, because they had no choice but to come out and play..
Our quality was going to overwhelm them

If Benin pressed us well, we may have been in more trouble..
A better opposition coach would spot our slow transitions and ask his players to press our backline hard, causing us chaos and mistakes

And with our 2 man midfield, we would keep hoofing balls forward aimlessly...
All they need to do is crowd their defence and we may struggle.. that's if we don't fix our midfield and improve our play

I agree we did a lot of things right..
I'm only pointing out areas we need to improve in..
And I know if the coach is allowed to continue with the team, he can work on those areas..

If we didn't score in the first half, the second half might have been more difficult
But then again, if Osimhen had started, he would have pressed their defenders more, and we would have had a different game..

All we needed was the 3 points Sha
We got that
Onto the next
I'd like to see how we setup and play against Rwanda

It's simple
Just play 4-3-3
Move Bassey to the left and bench Bruno
Or bench Bassey and bring in an extra midfielder

We would still have our width and we can control games
And maybe this match would have ended in the first half

Bruno is a fine player.
With Zaidu and Bruno that LB position is covered.

Onyamaechi Bruno impressed me the most in that backline.

The midfield won us this game, see how fluid we looked when Onyedika and Dele-Bashiru came in, it became an overload of chances and better ball progression. We've been stuck with the flat and lethargic Ndidi/Aribo midfield for too long that it's time to start phasing out those generation of players...the future of our midfield should be built around Onyedika- Dele-Bashiru-Yusuf- Onyeka and potentially Hamzat Ojediran from Lens and Chrisantus Uche. Iwobi will of course provide the leadership as a veteran

Ndidi did very well yesterday.
He still has it in him.

That guy grin

Please if possible bench Iwobi.
Play Onyedika
Ndidi (since man wants advance role lately) and
Dele Bashiru as AM (can support defense unlike okocha's nephew)

Onyedika cannot bench Iwobi.
They are different players.
