The governor of Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti has absolved himself of wrongdoing with regards to unpaid salaries of workers in the state, instead saying that administrations that came before him ought to be held accountable.

The governor in his monthly media chat in Umuahia, the state capital insists that it is unfair to hold him responsible, saying he is cleaning the mess of someone else and should be commended.

"Some of the salary arrears were not disclosed, until not too long ago and anytime I spoke in the past, my predecessors would take me on as if I was lying and the people who are being owed were quiet", he stated.

According to Otti, when he came on board, his administration cleared the salaries past administrations owned.

He said the state government entered an agreement with Abia State University (ABSU), College of Education (technical) Arochukwu, and the state-owned polytechnic located in Aba, some of whom staff were owed between 33 to 36 months.

The governor said the state is paying these arrears of salaries in addition to other debts owed by the past administrations.

The governor while reiterating that his administration will pay up owed salaries appealed that nobody should put a gun to his head.

"I'm not owing anybody, I have not owed anybody since I took over office", the governor clarified.

While describing the owed salaries as inherited, he assured that his administration would clear the backlog as funds are available.

Excuses upon excuses has started. Obis LP gov has started blaming his predecessors as usual. Meanwhile, Obi was busy making mouth during elections how he had studied Egypt and China and Kigali solutions. Now help Otti apply it in Abia it's now stories. Contrast that with Tinubu who refused to blame his predecessor one day. Can someone tell Obidients that governance is about acquiring both assets and liabilities. Otti cannot be silently enjoying the assets from past governments and be complaining about the liabilities. If you don't have the capability, please resign. Imagine if LP had won the presidency, by now Obi would have been owing the whole Federal workers out of incompetence and start blaming Buhari as an excuse. Yet they were making noise and claiming experts during elections. Work don reach now and they are clueless. Empty drums make the loudest noise !

States are not created to pay wages. This notion that a governors performance abilities should be measured by how quick or how well he pays the civil servants, is nothing but a lazy mans theory. Regrettably, this notion is very popular amongst certain groups of Nigerians, as is the celebration of IGRs that doesn't translate to improved infrastructural developments. We are talking about abominable recurrent expenditure numbers, yet some people want the government to employ more, jack up the minimum wage and still pay on time! That's ridiculous.

The job of the governors is to use state resources to improve the infrastructural realities in their respective states, in other to make the business environment conducive enough for greater investments. Its those business investments that should be primarily responsible for paying their workers, increasing tax returns to the government etc. Not the government. If we insist that states should employ morw and pay more and on time too, what we are saying is that all earned revenues of the government should be shared. It's that simple.

The federal and state governments are not there to create civil service jobs for some clans of lazy graduates, who can not find ways to do so for themselves. State revenue is primarily for providing services to the people. Minimal numbers of workers should be employed doing this to reduce costs. It is only a people with corrupt mindsets that visualise governance from such tortured perpectives. If the government uses most of her revenues to pay an overbloated civil service, where will the money to build hospitals and schools and police stations come from?

People should be held responsible for the actions while in office.
Imagine if the former Ogun Gov who messed up with the Chinko coy is held responsible,

Current office holders too should learn to speak out while inheriting both assets and liabilities.

The funny thing with your opinion here is that you don't know what's going on in Abia.
The workers and pensioners are glad with his efforts do far.
He reached an agreement with them and has paid more than 85% of the backlog.
The ones that are not paid yet are the ones that had issues with their verification. That's where the government agency responsible need to step up.
Go to the grassroots and see what the guy is doing.
Imagine a situation where both PDP and APC are wishing that he comes back to them because he had been a member of both parties at different times.
Nobody that buys nomination form in either party knows without a doubt that he is a loser already. Otti has buried all the other parties

See this one oo. Did any Igbo man tell you not to venture into auto spare parts business.
Try to analyze issues critically.
NNPC were the ones saying that Dangote wants Monopoly in the supply of diesel and petrol when the issue of substandard diesel was imported.

I don't know why Abia State can't get a good leader.. the only difference between Otti and his predecessors is that Otti has many dumb supporters online that will keep praising all his actions, the same thing Tinubu dumb supporters are doing...
