• The Ogun E-Bikes initiative is quickly gaining traction as riders and users begin to enjoy the numerous benefits of this forward-thinking project.

• Designed to be both pocket-friendly and environmentally conscious, these emission-free electric bikes are transforming urban mobility in Ogun State.

• With affordability at the forefront, the e-bikes provide a cost-effective transportation option that significantly reduces travel expenses for daily commuters. Additionally, the initiative aligns with our commitment to promoting a cleaner and greener environment by offering a sustainable alternative to conventional, fuel-powered vehicles.

• As more people embrace this innovative mode of transportation, the positive impact on the environment and the economy is becoming increasingly evident. The Ogun E-Bikes are not only improving accessibility and convenience but are also contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions, thereby enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

• We are proud of this laudable initiative and remain dedicated to expanding its reach, ensuring that the benefits of this eco-friendly and cost-effective transportation solution are enjoyed by even more citizens across the state.

Explanation

This is a replica of a scheme that is in operation in Kenya and Rwanda (I made a thread about those schemes last year). It is designed to overcome these problems of electric vehicles in Africa:

1) Electric vehicles are expensive.

2) Public power supply is unreliable in many African countries.

3) It takes a long time to charge an electric vehicle.

These problems are overcome in the following ways:

• The user registers for the scheme.

• He buys an electric motorcycle or tricycle. The motorcycle or tricycle does not have a battery. The battery is the component that makes the e-vehicle expensive. Without it, the e-vehicle is around the same price or cheaper than a petrol vehicle.

• He goes to a battery swap station and uses his card to rent a battery.

• The batteries are in a charging cabinet and a locker opens when he pays with his card. He takes a fully charged battery, puts it into the battery slot in his e-bike and continues with his journey.

• He returns to the battery swap station when the battery is weak, pays with his card, a locker opens for him to return the weak battery and another locker opens after he returns the battery. He takes a fully charged battery from the second locker and continues with his journey. He doesn't have to wait for the battery to charge and this eliminates the second problem.

• The battery swapping stations are powered by both solar power and public power and the solar component solves the problem of unreliable public power.

This scheme is also in operation in Benin Republic and the Ogun State Government hired the company that implemented it in Benin Republic to implement it in Ogun State.

The government is also converting petrol powered public buses to CNG powered buses.

The bike has other advantages which the okada riders mentioned in the video. It has no engine, so there's no need to service it. It has no chain, the okada rider complained that motorcycle chains usually make noise when they come in contact with water, but that's not the case here, it is cheaper to run than petrol powered vehicles, etc.

Kenya has started assembling and exporting the e-bikes and Ogun State plans to do the same.

Any "initiatives" that has to do with importing things not made in Nigeria is not an initiative but a ploy to keep Nigeria impoverished. Whether this is intentional i don't know.

They keep ensuring the things that are of Nigeria don't work for Nigerians.

The real issue while the economy is bad is simply because local content are not developed. Most industries and foreign investment are not developing local content.

When I see some of these biscuits and soft drinks produced in this country as they shrink in size as dollar to naira increases, l go just dey laugh. Those are prime indicators that these industries are not here to develop anything local content. They are enriching their country than develop Nigeria.
