1. When you asked the question, i responded (go back to your post) that you can actually use it but with strong reasons in the case you are facing a hard-line consular officer.
Meanwhile, is it even worth mentioning? Encouraging laziness or putting A in the place of Z because it is permissible?

2. Your brother was not denied because he mentioned that he has a brother (you) in the USA. Are you a criminal or committing crime in the USA? So, how will mentioning his family residence caused a VISA denial ?
INA 214b denial slip will keep you suggesting various denial reasons, so alight from that fallacy trailer.

3. Your brother in summary, failed to convince the consular of his genuine intention, post study plans etc, and might have displayed a braggart or over-confidence mien which is slightly reflected in your post above (eg he has his own 70% scholarship and we have a strong bank statement).

4. F1-VISA issuance is not a respecter
of billionaires or celebrities, it's a respecter of its own rules & policies. I have the inclination that, that was not the only question he was asked but that's a by-gone.

5. A genuine F1-VISA applicant , after denial should apply immediately, once he or she is able to detect the undoing, but your DS-160 information even says more than 70% of your decision to the consular. Ask him to post his genuine transcript so that people can guide him.

🙏
His transcript here:
Vo: Have you travelled to the US before?
Answer: No

He has earned much profit in excess of over 100 million this year from his cocoa export business due to the rise in the price of cocoa across the nation. He also owns Gas plants in 2 states in Nigeria, Ondo and osun state respectively and, supplies gas to retailers.

Vo: Do you have anyone in the US?
Answer: Yes my elder brother is on F1 visa and his doing his PhD in Biomedical Sciences

V.o: Which school is he?

Okay guys. I am the one that posted that “Can you use Lagos DS160 in Abuja” — the answer is Yes, you can because my brother did that today.

He interviewed in Abuja with the DS160 that he filled for Lagos. His visa was denied though because he mentioned that he has a brother in the US (Same school). I am currently doing a PhD in the same school that he is coming. The only question he got asked is *Do you have anyone in the US and where are they* which he answered truthfully as advised. He got his own 70% scholarship and we have a strong bank statement but was still denied.

I think its because I am in the same school, do you guys think he should reapply for the visa or what can he change?

I do not think they denied him solely because of that. Have you used any public resource and are you currently in the process of changing your status from F1 to other immigrant status?

No, I am still on F1 right now. I just thought there was an issue because he is coming to the same school.

Good afternoon guys
No reply still hasn’t sent me an email to login the new visa app website, I had an appointment scheduled for 3rd September 2024, I wanted to reschedule before this whole change of website. Although I called the embassy customer care and they said I should be patient they are going to send me the link to login. I’ve called them twice now still the same story , even told them my interview was scheduled for 3rd September that I wanted to reschedule, I also asked them that if I don’t appear for the interview on the 3rd does it mean I would have to pay another fee, she said no that it would appear as NO SHOW and I would have the opportunity to reschedule once am able to access my portal as long as I haven’t exhausted my rescheduling options
Please guys what should I do now it’s over 1 week now I haven’t still received the link

I just read the transcript. One quick question, do your stories on your father's business line aligns? Since he must have mentioned you in this DS160, there is a possibility the visa officer reviewed the excerpt of your transcript.

I would suggest he reapplies. 70% scholarship is quite high and worth trying again for.

I am on fully funded scholarship for my PhD so I didnt get any question about my sponsor at my own interview.

He should try again then. Perhaps, the visa officer just wasn't in his best mood. He should also desist from saying your dad has made over N100M this year alone. He should just talk about the line of business and unless he is asked he shouldn't mention. He shouldn't over labor things.

Hey 🤠

1. VO: What course did you study at undergraduate level ? Was his undergraduate program aligned with his MSc ? Or he chosed the school because you have or can facilitate the admission ?

2 VO: How will you cover the deficit ? His answer was given to impress or trick the consular. Short answer and straight to the point next time. Besides, is he single or married ? Is he working or still living with your parents ?

3. VO: Do you have anyone in the US ? Which School is he ? Are you going to same school ? Which program is he doing ? How long has he been in the USA ? When does he plan to leave ? The VO knows that you facilitated everything, but wanted to be certain that your brother is aware and at the same time he (your brother) knows what he is doing.
You also have a VISA character question to answer because that question directed towards you is over emphasised by the VO.

4. VO: Did he (you) process this admission for you ? Answer = NO. This is where the VO caught both of you as being dishonest. Sense -3 above should have told your brother that the VO knew that you actually facilitated his admission and coming over to the USA, so why not let the VO knows the truth with genuine reason (s) ?

5. VO: When does he plan to leave ? Tactical or bait question. How did your brother knows when you are going to round off your PhD ? Even, you , I mean yourself cannot predict when you are going to finish because PhD graduation period is the most unpredictable. Therefore, the consular concluded that both of you have pre-determined 80% of his VISA application.

2. Your last resort is to keep talking to the USA Embassy help-desk. They will sort it out for you. I know five applicants with locked accounts that were rectified.

As regards your first answer here, in my case, I am going for MSc that is not related to my undergraduate, my choice for MSc is fueled because it’s related to the field of career I have been a professional for the past 5 years…
Studied Botany and Biotechnology in undergraduate but going for MSc in Computer Science because I have been a professional software developer for the past 5 years

Do you think this could be a barrier?

And moreover, the school that admitted me saw all these and I had entrance test and interview with a professor in the dept which I passed and even secured me about 80% funding of my COA.

What do you you think about my case.

Hey 🤠

1. Your first degree can be a BA in Yoruba language, while your intending graduate degree in the USA is MA in Igbo language, and you can even decide that your PhD will be in Hausa. This is permissible, as there is no irrelevant courses of study in higher institutions. But, there must be a reasonable and genuine reasons for career/study path diversion or digression though.

2. As per @Highzhikk's cousin situation, the consular officer have studied his DS-160 , plus he has a strong magnet (relative) in America, and having caught him verbally, therefore, the consular will be looking for all tiny or flimsy excuses to deny him. Even, taking Lagos filled DS-160 to Abuja for interview is a good excuse to deny him in such scenario.

Your case is totally different. PS: Consulars must jot down their reasons for denying or approving an applicant. That is what you see them typing on the computer.

Hello everyone, I need some advice. I applied for a B1/B2 visa (I was denied) in 2019 and mentioned having a relative in the US. Now, I'm applying for an F1 visa in 2024 and I'm worried about how to answer the question about having family members in the US. I want to avoid any potential red flags.

Should I say:

A) I have no family members in the US and that all my immediate family members are in Nigeria?
Or
B) I have no family members in the US, but add that the person I had in the US some years back has since passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19 ?

I’m a Lawyer btw and I’m applying for Master of Laws. I didn’t apply to schools in the state he lived in some years back. I purposely applied to schools that are far from his city. Also, we don’t bear same surname.

@OyoTunjiUSA and others. Please help me decide which approach is best.

I didn’t change my DS-160 number before the migration to a new website. Presently, the number there is incorrect and I’ve been unable to update it on the new website. Raised a ticket but I haven’t received a reply yet and my Visa interview is close. Please what can I do?😭

1. Fill another DS-160, and on the day of your interview go with the old and new DS-160s. If there would be " Update Profile " option in your new profile prior to your VISA appointment, you will update it and print out another appointment letter , otherwise, attend your interview like that but with both new and old DS-160s.

I'm having the same problem I have paid since 3rd at first bank but then I sent and also chatted with the avits representative but said they are having issues with the website settlement base on the new migration thing and that they are 50% done that they are working on it and I should give them time so I tired inputting the the Amentum reference number from the bank then that one keeps saying bank payment updated successfully but then its acts like it going to go to the next page only to go back to repay section I hope this helps calm you a little
Dot1:
Please help me here. I made payment for visa interview at a First Bank branch on Friday. According to Avits, I was supposed to go back after 24 hours to pick a date for my interview. However, every time that I go to their website to put my deposit slip number, I am getting an error message that; "Given payment receipt number doesn't exist". I have already submitted a support ticket. I am not sure when they would respond. Has anyone ever been in this situation before? How did you resolve it or what do you suggest I do? Thanks for your help

I’m having the same issue I made payment at first bank two weeks ago 29th of august for visa fee and when ever I impute my ammentun reference number it says bank details updated successfully but it doesn’t take me to the next step to book an appointment. I’v been stuck here for over two weeks . I sent a mail to support but no response after I created a ticket . I even tried calling but they hardly pick up calls. I’ve been to first bank 5 times on this whole issue . They said the issue is from us embassy not them .
