@OyoTunjiUSA, is it true that having funding (maybe full funding) can help an F-1 visa interview and can sometimes make your application look good in the front of the VO? How can one ask for this funding from ur school ?

Hey 🤠

1. Having full, half, entrance or average fundings in the 3- category of F1 VISA (Bsc, MSc, PhD) does nothing to help your VISA success, other than to help you clear school fees burden or ease you the burden of proof of funds POF.

2. USA F-1 VISA success is tied to 3-major requirements (1. Proof of Funds, 2. Proof of Ties, and 3 Proof of non-immigrant intent), in which every F1-VISA applicant must satisfied without leaving any one of those listed behind.

3. There are other abstract requirements , but let's leave those ones for now.
Nonetheless, Any F1-VISA applicant with full tuition scholarship/ fundings , In the presence of a consular officer will be liken to a very beautiful lady, standing in front of a man. Such student, especially in the natural sciences, will be given audience to prove themselves as potential scholars.

In Summary

4. Having the highest fundings or scholarships does not guarantee your VISA success . You must satisfied other F1-VISA requirements. Consular Officers, sees F1-VISA applicants with good fundings/scholarships in some areas of study as potential benefits.

Best Wishes 🙏

Thought as much. People without funding have as much or even better chance of getting approved than people with funding. It’s better not to have funding or scholarships cuz the VO wants someone who’s going to USA to spend his own money

I'm having the same problem I have paid since 3rd at first bank but then I sent and also chatted with the avits representative but said they are having issues with the website settlement base on the new migration thing and that they are 50% done that they are working on it and I should give them time so I tired inputting the the Amentum reference number from the bank then that one keeps saying bank payment updated successfully but then its acts like it going to go to the next page only to go back to repay section I hope this helps calm you a little

I don’t have an old DS-160 cause it was a placeholder number😔
🤠

1. Fill another DS-160, and on the day of your interview go with the old and new DS-160s. If there would be " Update Profile " option in your new profile prior to your VISA appointment, you will update it and print out another appointment letter , otherwise, attend your interview like that but with both new and old DS-160s.

The agent helping me randomly went to pick an appointment date for 2026 January in the previous website without even informing me. Please can the date be changed to an earlier date without paying for another MRV fee? I also found out that my email login for the old website was also wrongly spelt. I don’t know if the email can still be corrected? Because up till now, I haven’t received any email in regards to updating my profile in the new website

Hello everyone,

Has anyone who interviewed and got approved pick their passport recently? If yes, where and what’s the timeline? I’m stuck between having my mom pick her passport in Abuja or having them deliver it to Lagos. Her visa was approved yesterday, status changed to issued today and I really need clarity on how to advance. She needs to be in the United States next week.

Hey 🤠

1. First, you will have to track Mama's VISA status in order to double sure. This is the USA Embassy's website to check VISA status :

Check visa status.

https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=NIV

2. Upon reconfirmation, you will then proceeded to the new Pick Up/Delivery company code- named " OIS which is now the official errand-boy for USA embassy.

VISA Pickup /Delivery.

https://www.oisservices.com/services

PS: You will have to register officially for Mama and choose your service preferences. There is a customer support option on OIS where you can narrate your wants.

@OyoTunjiUSA, You won’t die young! Sincere appreciation for taking your time to respond. I actually checked today and it status changed to “issued”. I have registered on OIS and put pick up in Abuja on Monday even though the site says it’s not ready yet. I honestly didn’t want to do Lagos because she had her interview in Abuja and with the new system, I’m not sure how long it could take to send it to Lagos. I’d rather have her fly in, pick up and fly out.

Do you think this is logical or have them send it to Lagos?

A big Amen IJN.

1. Although , the pick up can be reroute to Lagos without any issues but ' never say never ' accident , negligence, political delay, weather etc , therefore, Abuja pick up would be the fastest.
I would rather have Mama flew to Abuja once and for all. USA VISA pick up is worth traveling to London for 😊

I need help o
Cutiemercie:
Hello everyone, I need some advice. I applied for a B1/B2 visa (I was denied) in 2019 and mentioned having a relative in the US. Now, I'm applying for an F1 visa in 2024 and I'm worried about how to answer the question about having family members in the US. I want to avoid any potential red flags.

Should I say:

A) I have no family members in the US and that all my immediate family members are in Nigeria?
Or
B) I have no family members in the US, but add that the person I had in the US some years back has since passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19 ?

I’m a Lawyer btw and I’m applying for Master of Laws. I didn’t apply to schools in the state he lived in some years back. I purposely applied to schools that are far from his city. Also, we don’t bear same surname.

@OyoTunjiUSA and others. Please help me decide which approach is best.

Hey 🤠

1. Your B1/B2 was denied back in the year 2019 because you did not qualify, and you failed to prove the attached requirements to the consular officer. It did not happen because you have a relative in the USA. The thinking that, mentioning your family member/relatives living in America will jeopardize your VISA success " IS A FALLACY. Except if, those family or relative (s) mentioned are criminals in America . Even if you have been filed (PR, K1, etc) for, that does not mean that you cannot get a USA VISA prior to the conclusion of your pending application.

2. Go ahead with your F1-VISA application. Failure in B1-B2 does not mean failure in F1- VISA. US government or American leaders are just great thinkers or reasoners. If you are qualify in your present VISA application, you will be granted, regardless of past failure (s) or how many times or different kinds of VISAS you have applied for.

Should I say :

PS: This was the reason i ignored your post initially (until you reposted). Nairaland does not allow teaching of lies , or cutting corners on VISA applications. So how do you expect someone to be violating official (USA embassy and Nairaland policy) rules publicly? A lawyer 😔

“It did not happen because you have a relative in the USA. The thinking that, mentioning your family member/relatives living in America will jeopardize your VISA success " IS A FALLACY.”

I do not think it’s a FALLACY, In my opinion, it might be part of the reason(s). The question should be “How did that person get into the States, and how long have they stayed”.

When you get into the US on maybe B1/B2, F1 and refuse to come back to your home country, then it simply means you have decided to Immigrate, whereas a NON - Immigrant Visa was issued when the Applicant was applying.

So, in some cases - it affects the applicant who wants to Follow the predecessor; Best Way - Including your Ties in USA does NOT and Will NOT guarantee Visa Approval, Rather it may Alter your Future Application, especially when you’re switching Categories..

1. I accept constructive opinions or correction, but read and re-read before correcting. Go back and read this part : Except if your family or relative mentioned is a criminal or committing crime in America. So anyone, whose family or relative have commited VISA fraud in AMERICA is a criminal. If you mention that person during the course of your application, your VISA application will be rejected.

PS: Anyone can mention his or her family or relative residing in America , if those people are not criminals. And believing that mentioning your family/relative residing in the US during your VISA application will jeopardize your VISA success is a FALLACY. Period.

American laws even allow any family of known criminals, the equal opportunity for all, if such family member (s) proved non-criminal histories or tendencies beyond reasonable doubt.

I first thought it was an actual interview, in my mind, I was like "wow, this VO really likes you o, allowing you to explain yourself like this without interrupting you like ABC debate anchors grin"

In my opinion, I think it is weak on home ties. Question Like "Why nursing?" is an avenue to prove your home ties.

Honestly, I just have an issue when people say their education will help them better Nigeria. Wetin concern you and Nigeria cheesy, can't you use the education to better your own life?

The other issue is your aunt sponsoring you. I know she earns 150k but I have heard that money is not a lot of money in the US. It also becomes tricky if she has children of her own.

Why Lonestar? I spoke with Singh from India, he said he got a good education. I emailed Professor Balablu...he said he would be willing to mentor me. I asked a couple of their ex-stidents on LinkedIn. In my opinion, except you are going to Stanford or Harvard...saying your school is top 30 hold no water.

On a lighter note, saying that you want to go into a predominantly female profession might trigger a feminist VO...hmmm, so you mean you want to go steal female jobs cheesy

It's the first draft, perhaps cut the words down by 50%
