Hello,

I did not evaludte my degree in wes or any other evaluation body. My school of choice did not make that a requirement (I emailed them to confirm this).

I am going for wildlife conservation.

Is your school of choice offering GA or RA?
Have you considered South Dakota?

@OyotunjiUSA,
I need your honest response to these questions please;
1. What's the best card to pay the VISA fee with in Nigeria? Does any of the virtual cards work?
2. As a University Lecturer with a fully funded scholarship (PhD), unmarried, what home tie can I show for a likely visa approval?

Thanks.

Your job is your home tie, if you can get a document from your school saying you will come back, that could help your confidence.

But don't expect them to ask you if you will come back...home tie question usually take the form of why this degree or what would this degree do for you?

Ayomide98, OyoTunjiUSA, is it not possible to switch interview location from Lagos to Abuja since Lagos has refused to answer us and change our stuff from “pending approval”?

I have thought of this multiple times

My resumption is next month ending.

If I had picked Abuja, I could have done my interview already sef, and it seem Lagos embassy is doing this for only F class visa

Really? Next month ending? Is that for spring or fall? Aha, I think you should escalate this to the embassy if there’s a better way to reach out to them

OyoTunjiUSA:

Hey 🤠

@Sneh7 is kind of correct in the new payment suggestion, but his or her other answer was faulty.

1. I have not seen anyone who has paid with a virtual card, but any card you are using will be charged with USD. Hence , you may pay via First Bank transfer or bank deposit. You can transfer to the First Bank Acc# from any bank if you are opting for the bank transfer.

2. As a University lecturer who is unmarried, means (my personal interpretation ) " that you are a bookworm or career-oriented" which is kind of expected of few PhD applicants (even some University Professors).

3. With full funded PhD admission, proofs my point in labelling you " a bookworm or career-oriented" who are always outstanding in their pursuits via focus, and determination.

4. Ipso facto, Your strongest tie is your present employer eg OAU or Kaduna Polytechnic, b/cos this will give the consular officer the notion of your teaching ability in the future. Your 2nd best tie is your academic achievements, as explained previously here in sense - 4. PhD applicants are generally seen as Educational or Development Human Resources, therefore, few of them are really expected to come back.

@Sneh7

PS: Nigeria is excempted from the 6 - months post VISA (Travel passport) expiration rule.

PS: Age is not a factor for married life. What if he had wife and kids but divorced , and decided to choose single as marital status ?

PS: Your bad experience as a single VISA applicant cannot be used as a specimen or direction for others. Proof of Ties is a complex subject. You can proof ties abstractly.

Best Wishes 🙏

Thanks so much for correcting my mistakes,
and also thanks so much for answering my questions, I appreciate and I'm happy that the number one rule did not affect me

Hey 🤠

1. NO. You cannot change Country, State and Location (Abuja to Lagos, vice versa) once your appointment is booked successfully, according to the new policy.

2. Open a ticket ( complain) on your AVITS profile with the copy of your Form I- 20, Sevis fee receipt and your Mrv payment receipt (merge it together as PDF) if you are having difficulty with your VISA appointment.

PS: I would rather you Checked yourself if you have done everything accordingly . I don't want to think you can win the USA embassy with escalation of issues. Why not expantiate your issues with the support - staffs instead of escalating ?

Best Wishes 🙏

Called the support staff still nothing . To change embassy, one has to fill a new DS-160, and pay a new MRV right?

This isn’t true. A person with a deficit of $30k will definitely get favorable response over a fully funded one cuz the one with deficit is paying his own tuition and covering his own expenses which help the US economy and that’s what the VO wants.

Is this what you think or the fact? Do you know $30k is at least N45M? Do you think the Visa Officer considers you paying N90M for a two year Masters a good investment if you would be returning to Nigeria after studies? Oga, please, do not be led by emotions or talks from motivational speakers ooo. If you have the opportunity of getting funding, do not neglect it. They too want people that will improve their economy should you choose not to return back after studies.

Hi OyoTunjiUSA and Ayomide98,

Please i need your help in this situation, My younger bro who scheduled his appointment in a different country and gave someone to money to pay for his visa fee in that same country, but the person he gave, used his phone number as the applicant phone number and my brother didn't notice that and filled his Nigerian number as his number when he was filling his Ds-160 form....Now he's Asking me what to do in this case. please respond . Thank you.

Hey bro can I DM you?
Mpower loan will fly if you have a good chunk of your expenses waived. At the time I used Mpower loan for my visa application 2 years ago, my deficit was 15k total was 35k.

I got a partial waiver so I used the loan to cover for the rest. I planned my response very well and included it in my application when I was asked what was the reason for my denial. This was my second interview so I was very prepared.

So I think you should focus on getting some time of waiver first (full or partial)

I don’t think it should affect, just make sure you have close contact with the person who used his phone number on the payment.

It could be assumed that you have multiple numbers.

But hope the number used wasn’t a US own?

I figured it out. It’s stated on the website no group appointments.
Another question- when I pick a date and a time that is highlighted in green as available, it keeps showing slot is already used and then when I check my dashboard, it shows pending appointment request. Please what does that mean and what are the next steps?

Hey 🤠

@Ayomide98 has given you the clear answer but let me clear your mind.

1. Your younger bro is being fidgety because he has applied from a
3rd country which is code name " Forum Shopping" That is a situation where you go to another country in applying for a US VISA, in order to have advantage or thinking that you will have VISA advantages etc.

2. Fortunately for your brother, all F1-VISA applicants have been given the free opportunity to apply in any 3rd country , if there is no interview appointment or opportunity to schedule an appointment in their original countries.
However, your brother should be ready to give a concrete reasons for applying in a 3rd country to the consular, especially if the consular is a disciplinarian.

PS: Your bro should just be honest and tell the consular the truth, ie i felt i won't be able to secure appointment on time if i had applied from my country because of the comments i read online, and i do not want to forfeit my admission etc.

PS: The only information available , and taken serious by the USA embassy is what you have inputted in your DS-160. Therefore, forget about the phone number used during the MRV payment.

Best Wishes 🙏

1. Restart your computer or phone or browsing gadget. You can also try to clear your browser history or change browser ie from Google Chrome to Mozilla. It's the AVITS webpage, it is still undergoing update and traffic pressure b/cos of large population of Users.

PS: After the above suggestion, you should relogin and see what happens. Otherwise, reach out to the help-staffs.

I would love to keep in touch since we are admitted by the same school. For extra context, I switched from online to Atlanta campus for Spring 2025.
