Hello everyone, I am trying to renew my F1 visa but I am still in U.S right now. I am trying to get a visa date before coming home. I have paid my visa fee with the new portal and still pending appointment request (I choose Lagos) My friend chose Abuja and was approved for appointment after 2 days. Please what is the way forward, I am so frustrated right now.

Are you currently in the school ? You might want to visit the international admissions. Also if they asked you to travel back to Nigeria to complete the process DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT TRAVEL BACK. Instead visit https://usvisaappt.com/visa/ and set an appointment

@Daodudavid is over protective. Follows your instinct, and mindset.

1. You actually do not have to renew your VISA, if you intend to proceed with further educational activities in the USA ie OPT, provided that your Form- I 20 is still valid. Please , visit your current DSO and and tender your plans.

2. If you plan to come to Nigeria like your friend , or you have missed home and you feel like coming , you are free to come . Nigeria is your fatherland, and you are not a criminal in the United States. Your renewal will be successful, even if you plan to do it in Nigeria. But, go and talk to your DSO first, okay?

PS: If you want to start the process from America, first fill another VISA application (DS-160)

https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

PS: Then, go to the new website AVITS, sign up, choose payment method, and pay VISA fee.

https://www.usvisaappt.com/visaapplicantui/login

PS: Download or screenshot your payment reference, and once your payment is confirmed by AVITS, proceed in booking appointment on AVITS. OR go to OIS directly because OIS is the major determinant of your renewal application.

https://www.oisservices.com/services

Don't forget to go and see your DSO (Designated School Official) First. DSO is the middleman or woman between you and the USA government, in terms of SEVIS and form I-20.

Good afternoon.
Please I need a clarification on this new change.
Usually, one will put any ds160 number and get a date.
Then properly fills ds160 and update profile after, 72hrs before interview.
Is it still possible to do this? Or must I properly fill ds160 before the AVITs site application?

I want to come home because that is the only chance I have before I finish my program. I have filled the DS-160 and paid visa fee, it is just frustrating that the pre-approval is taking longer than expected. I won't travel if I do not have a date. Thank you

Thank you for the reply. I have submitted my DS-160, paid visa fee. Advised to go to my home country by international office. I have my signed 1-20 and letters from school.
I want to be sure I can get daye to renew my visa or cancel my travel plans.
I just need a break from this Ph.D journey and I can only find the solace back home and I need to come home cos I can't next year as I will be starting my 4th year.
So, it is kind of hard.

🤠

1. You are even a PhD applicant with ongoing studentship. In that case, you actually don't have to renew your VISA, but you seems to be a patriotic traveler .

2. Visit OIS directly to book your appointment, since you have paid successfully on AVITS, and go and drop your renewal application documents. AVITS payment receipt is all you need to work with OIS, don't worry much about AVITS appointment. You are free to travel home.

I do need to renew my visa cos it expired last year.
I am still pending appointment request and I cannot proceed to dropbox option yet.
And what is OIS?? Sorry, I don't know the meaning of that.
Thank you for your reply.

🤠

1. You don't know the meaning of OIS upon all my explanation? Are you kidding yourself ?
How did your friend booked his or her appointment? I don't understand why some adults like trolling.

I am not trolling. I don't know maybe you're refering to Office of International Service or something else.

The thing is visa renewal is the same process and it is as if you're applying for visa the first time.

* My friend, a recent High-School graduate will understand my first answer to you, without further question. I am out of your trailer. Wake me up when you re done with your kidding.

After this month, are you sure we won’t embark on the plan B?

I personally would. Seeing people getting dates in Abuja is really getting to me. I mean someone will apply today and before you know it, they already get a date for next week

Hello, please if you’re going for the second time after F-1 denial, what can you say has changed in your application? Asides funding

Same here, the only delaying factor from my end is money.

This is really wearying, no communication, nothing nothing, it’s 4 weeks I have been on this

1. How will i know when i don't reside with you ? Do you mean someone should suggest a lie ?

PS: Major reasons for F1-VISA denial under INA 214B are ; * Inability to prove ties to your country. * Inability to prove availability of funds. * Inability to display post-graduation plans or genuine intention of studentship.

Vo- What are you going to the US for
Me- I’m going for my Masters in exercise science and kinesiology at Western Illinois university Macomb , Illinois
Vo - (stands and leaves for a minute before coming back)
You said you’re going for your masters
Me- Yes, I’m going for my Masters in exercise science and kinesiology at Western Illinois university Macomb , Illinois
Vo- Are you single or married
Me- Single
Vo- Do you have any relatives in the US
Me- My immediate relatives are here in Nigeria but I have an aunt in the US
Vo- Where does she live?
Me- New Mexico
Vo- Have you traveled to the US before?
Me- No I haven’t had any reason to till now
Vo- Have you traveled to other countries
Me- Yes I was in the UK earlier in May and I spent 3 weeks touring London, Edinburgh and Glasgow
Vo- I see you have a deficit of $27,000, who would be paying for that?
Me- I have a scholarship that covers over 25% of my tuition. And personally, I have saved 1M naira from my business proceedings for the past one year and this accrues to $10,000 which would be going towards my program.
The rest of my deficit will be covered by my dad, he is an engineer and the managing partner of….. construction services, a firm with over 15 years experience in structural and infrastructural construction projects. They have a staff strength over 40 and they’ve executed projects in 12 out of the 36 states in Nigeria and they make over 250 million naira in profit annually.
He’s also the proprietor of ….. college, a renowned secondary institution in Ondo state. With a population of over 500 students from different parts of the country.
Altogether, he personally makes an excess of 90 million naira annuaally

Vo- Types for a while. Sorry you’re not eligible for a visa bla bla bla

(I’m honestly not sure what happened, maybe I said too much with the deficit) Also, he was looking really tired and irritated so maybe that was a factor. I wasn’t even able to explain my main points and why I was going for the masters.

Please advise🙏🏽

In my opinion, you should have explained your own business where you mentioned your personal savings, you could have talked about what you do to earn the amount, even if you wouldn’t talk about your post study plans yet, that could have set the VO up to ask more about what you do and how it relates to what you’re going for.

Also, you stated 1m naira equates $10k, I guess that should be a typo error
