eejo: The reason why Nigerians are easily divided along ethnic and religious lines are not so complex to explain... The reason is because there is no Unity and poverty is very high. We need true unity. When there is unity, there is cohesion and no violence persay. Nigeria is a diverse country manifested by culture, religion, ethnicity, language and even political setup. This is why it is easy to divide and instigate Nigerians into ethnic crisis, and religious crisis. Although we Nigerians loosely blame diversity for most crises in the country, the problem of poverty and lack of unity apparently accounts for the bulk of violence (whether ethnic or religious) due to such problems. This is also leads to a mentality that Nigeria is a country that has scarce resources. No! Nigeria does not have scarce resources, we live in a land of abundance. Nigeria is a rich country. We just don't have the right hands to manage the resources effectively yet. This is why the average Nigerian have a scarcity mind set. We are conditioned to believe there is not enough resources to go round by those at the high echlon due to high corruption and inaccurate data systems to transmit information of how our wealth should be equally distributed 1 Like |

The nigerians that are easily divided along those lines simply dont know that there is more for THEM to gain from the absence of such division. The politicians being described as exploiters or looters KNOW this so they dont get EASILY DIVIDED along such lines NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE ACCUSED OF. EVERY POLITICAL PARTY WE TALK ABOUT HAS PEOPLE FROM SEVERAL TRIBES AND OF SEVERAL RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS AND THATZ AN EVIDENCE. So you cant keep giving the NUMBER OF ETHNIC GROUPS as an excuse or whatever. the politicians ,unlike what you may think, aint SLAVES TO WHITES. they are business partners or friends 2 some of them at least. not slaves. they know what they are doing as politicians. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY GAIN AS POLITICIANS at the end ,the people within each tribe or ethnic group are not even united enough to form anything better or stronger THAN NIGERIA and thatz why the richest among MEMBERS OF SUCH ETHNIC GROUPS cant invest in such. |
Re: Best Answer Wins 100k by MonthlySalary: 9:02pm On Sep 20 |
eejo: No good Human Relationships. Ethic groups in Nigeria are many and the largest are the Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo speaking dialect. Due to this, all the tribes feel like the other tribes are trying to marginalizing them. This way, Nigerians of different tribal backgrounds feel like their economic and religious interests are threatened. This leads to dubious people funding armed ethno religious crimes against one another. Leading to killings and destruction. Nigeria also has a high poverty level and to make it more difficult, each ethic group feels like one is marginalizing the other. The country's wealth is not equally distributed. Also due to our different languages and cultural setup, religion has been used to build political sentiments. Nigerians are easily manipulated with hunger and little food because of poverty. Once the poor are cajoled with little rice and 5000 naira, they can harm you if you call their attention to notice religious leaders and politicians manipulating them. Rich politicians also sponsor religious violence by providing weapons and backups for criminal fanatics. Most especially in the northern part of Nigeria. This is why Nigerians are easily divided because they lack good education about human relationships. In Nigeria there is no good Human Relationship between people and this leads to people having a "scarcity mentality". Where there is good human relationship, the will and kindness to help each other to excel will be of paramount importance. There will be truth about avaible resources and less greed. Corruption will not be rampant Due to lack of good Human relationships, resources are not equally shared to benefit the whole country. The nations wealthy are controlled by the rich few and automatically, the nation wallow in lack. Nigerians start thinking there isn't enough resources in the country and the poverty is high. |

eejo:Nigerians are easily divided along ethnic and religious line, they kill eachother, destroy things and see things from scarcty mindest while the country have abundace because of the bad leaders the country kept having, the leaders leave the masses in abject poverty, poor education and lack of job opportunities. Nigeria is not the only country on earth that have somany tribes but Nigerians kill eachother and destryo things because of frustration instead of fighting the government the masses are busy fighting eachother, a hungry man is an angry man, if the majority of population get the basic needs of life there will hardly be tribal fights, if the youth are educated and get jobs easily there will hardly be tribal fights. if the government is just and fair in managing and distributing the resources there won't be issues about the ownership of the resource. Nigerians kill and destroy things because of religion as they being brainwashed by religious men and they are ignorant if people are educated nobody will deceived them into killing fellow human for religious sake. 1 Like |

eejo: The major reason for division in Nigeria is nothing more than a stereotypical dimension which emanates from both our individual homes and environments - which is transfered from one generation to another. To give context, how does a person becomes racist? it's simply because someone propagates that ideology in them, while the surrounding environment (observable human actions) acts a catalyst to enabling the ideology. A typical Yoruba boy somewhere in Ilesha who has never left his vicinity has already been conscripted to hate and consider an Igbo man his enemy. Similarly, a little boy somewhere in Jigawa or Kebbi who has never interacted or engaged with someone from another tribe has already been fed with loads of untrue information, and made to believe that the Yoruba man or unrelated tribe is his arch enemy. Same goes to an Igbo boy in somewhere in Aba transcending to every tribe and ethnic lines. As these young lads grow, this ideology automatically forms a substantial part of their character and judgment, breeding a strong sense of mistrust and becoming the ideal for engagements with persons from other tribes. Everyone of us at some point in our lives repeatedly heard, been outrightly told or made to believe something which is not entirely true about another tribe. So in instances of chaos, people get to act on the basis of potentially causing hurt to get back some pound of flesh. Some of us were able to break away from this stereotype based on the fact that our real time experiences with persons from these tribes were totally the opposite of what we were meant to believe. Rwanda experienced one of the worst genocides in history because of ethnic detestation, we don't need to have same experience before we take matters of ethnic unification serious. We need to see ourselves as humans more. My two cents. 1 Like 1 Share |

We Nigerians are very greedy and very dubious to a fault and we don't really think neither do we have foresight, all we care about is what we can get at the present. The politicians and leaders have studied this fact very well so they use it to their advantage in dividing us along political, religious and tribal line by buying and bribing their way to different political and government post. As long as an average Nigerian and his immediate family are little bit ok, he wouldn't mind what the next fellow is going through. "It will favour me and my family " syndrome.... Poverty is another major key factor which the political leaders uses to drive us apart. If Poverty wasn't at it's highest point for majority of the masses, it will be difficult for any man to sow a seed of discord either by ethnic or religious differences amongst the people. The rich go along fine within themselves no matter their ethnic or religious backgrounds so that should tell you something... |

eejo:I'm sure others have said this already but imo That's because we were never meant to be one in the first place, the north don't think like the south and the south don't think like the north, we have over 150 languages and dialects patched up as one Nigeria just for the selfish reasons of some such as maintaining control over the nations wealth especially the oil coming from the south when everyone was deep into agriculture before the oil boom, even in the south we still have tribes clashing because of an indifference in ideas, cultures and sometimes religion, we've had a civil war in the past just to show you we were always not suited to be one united nation before the amalgamation of the south and north provinces by lord lugard. This country is too heterogeneous to be culled up as one nation.2-4 different tribes/cultures might be okay but over 150, lol. That's why most old heads would tell you the likely solution to them for a better Nigeria is restructuring. As to your second question sir check all over the world to see how many many black populated countries actually have a superb country, probably less than 15, even the black populated societies in originally white countries like the Us, UK, Canada, etc just compare their surroundings and development to the white populated parts sir to see my point, even if there's a steady source of wealth, it's either we amass enough to "flaunt" or ",oppress" our fellow beings or just not utilitise it well till it's either damaged or gone, just mostly redundancy and backwardness, I don't know if it's through our genes, evolution or an outright curse from the bible times ,we with the melanin skin are just wired different. |

Nigeria history, cultural dynamics and socio_economic factors contribute to the divisions and conflicts , here are some possible reasons (1)historical legacy (2)ethnic and religious diversity (3)socio_economic factors HISTORICAL LEGACY (1)historical colonialism:ethnic groups are divided by artificial borders created by colonial powers thereby fostering tensions (2)Civil war: Nigeria/biafran Civil conflict left deep scas and unresolved issues ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY (1)Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups and multiple religions leading to differences and misunderstanding (2)competitions for resources and power breeds tensions SOCIO_ECONOMIC FACTORS (1)poverty and inequality:limited resources fuel competition and desperation (3) corruption and poor governance:leadership failures worsen economic conditions (3)unemployment and idleness:lack of opportunities breeds restlessness, SCARCITY MINDSET (1)limited access to education: narrow paspertive perpetuates misconceptions (2) fear and mistrust: historical conflicts and biases renforce division (3) zero -sum mentality:'if I don't get it, someone else will'mentality prevails. eejo: Family is the smallest unit in every home. The home is often what determines the society. The reason why Nigerians are easily divided along ethnic and religious line is because of the way most homes bring up their kids. Young members of Nigerian society are not aliens. Kids and young adults are taught different religions and cultural hate and all sorts of negatives. This way, they see the next Nigerian speaking a different language or practicing a different religion as an enemy. This is why Nigerians are easily divided along ethnic and religion. Even if there is poverty, if a family raise their kids to be kind and love other people from different tribes, by the time they grow up, it will be hard for politicians or troublemakers to incite them into religious or ethnic cleansing violence. Nigerians are easily divided along ethnic and religion lines because the family is faulty. When a family setup is faulty, the society will also be faulty and poverty prone. This is why there is high rate of poverty in the country. Poverty leads to frustration and frustration leads to fighting, destruction and killings. You can't see a rich man or a comfortable family fighting a religious or ethnic war. About the "scarcity mindset", it's a build of lack of education and transparency on the part of the government. The Nigerian doesn't have access to the right information which will help him understand his country's wealth. He is being misinformed by the government and even government controlled media to think their is lack and scarcity in the country. Meanwhile there is abundance. It's not his fault: the scarcity mindset can be changed when the government is accountable to the people |

eejo: The question as to why Nigerians are divided and violent and never at peace with each other is a complex question. Education, most especially plays a key role in sensiticing people about peace and unity other than emphasizing religion and ethnicity. If in Nigeria majority are well educated and exposed with good education system, Nigerian people will be enlightened, and not be fighting over trival matters that could be settled through the judiciary or legislative arm of government. But things get heated up when you realize the court which is supposed to be a succor to the people are corrupt and even the law enforcement. This leads to strive and violence against each other. Nigerians are a peaceful people until religion or ethnic issues arise. All these is because people or governance are not taking proactive measures to control violent tendencies of both Islamic teachings and Christian teachings. Also it is worth of note that religious or ethnic violence always starts with POVERTY, poor people in the society. Poor people are easily manipulated. Majority of the ethnic violence and religious violence starts with the educationally disadvantaged people. Nigerians have a scarcity mindset because Nigeria despite being blessed with abundant resources still turn to importation instead of using their own ideas and resources. This is not entirely the Nigerian fault but because those exploiting our resources have kept us in the dark about what we have and what we can achieve. We also have a technical-know-how in several areas. Before scarcity mentality can't be disrupted, there will have to be an accountable government who is opened to the masses. We will also need EQUALITY in the distribution of national wealth. Because it is lack of equality in the distribution of national wealth that is bringing about scarcity mentality. |
Re: Best Answer Wins 100k by Clairvoyancy: 9:15am On Sep 21 |
The reason behind ethnic and religious division in Nigeria can be traced back to the British colonization and formation of different ethnic and religious groups... Before now,(according to history), people of the Niger Area which is now today's Nigeria have always been living and trading together in peace before the emergence of the British Empire, also we have been marrying across all ethnics and different tribes, and it was a peaceful cohabitation. But, when the British came, they impose on us the need to separate us and group all ethnics under a region with a central power controlling all as one. This regionalisation under a central governing power has been the source of hatred which has spiralled into tribalism, religious differences and power tussles amongst us... And finally, why we have a mindset of scarcity as a citizen is because, that's the way majority of our leaders have projected the country to us just because of their personal gain. They dubiously hide under the half baked constitution to swindle the country's resources with their various offices, and tell the masses that the country is poor and even make it look real by borrowing from developed countries thereby plunging the country's economy into a mess.... The country needs a total overhaul at the helms of power... May God deliver us. |
Re: Best Answer Wins 100k by IbnB: 9:29am On Sep 21 |
eejo: Nigerian society is still tribal, we aren't advanced enough to engage in true democracy. Notice how within their tribal affiliations they still practice the methods of governance used by their forefathers in pre colonial times, such as feudalism in the north and monarchy in the southwest - notice how Yoruba people relate with Tinubu much like one of the kings they had in the 18th century, all of them worship him and his word is law. The tribe closest to true democracy is the Ibos, who are republicans more like - any man who can amass wealth is allowed to lead but if he fuçks up the poorest among them isn't afraid to tell him to his face. Nigeria is an artificial entity that ought to be broken up so that the constituent ethnic nations can be allowed to grow and develop at their own pace using the different forms of governance they are culturally and historically familiar with, and only then can there be true progress |
Re: Best Answer Wins 100k by Onebabe(f): 10:54am On Sep 21 |
eejo: The root of our division or why Nigerians are easily divided is as a result of past events of mistrust / greed and which led to series of coups and wars. These events has conditioned peoples way of thinking around tribal lines and when there is a little misunderstanding that can be corrected with simple dialogue, it leads to ethnic violence, people destroying things and killing people. Nigerians bring ethnic coloration into simple issues because we don't trust each other and are greedy. What we need is Unity, which is lacking. The earth and all things on it belongs to God, it's good if we don't get too greedy and take what doesn't belong to us. If Nigerians learn the art of forgiveness and love, there will be progress but this is lacking. That's why there is constant friction, violence and misunderstanding among Nigerians. In most Nigerian society, due to the divisive nature of ethnic groups, it was easy for religion to penetrate and divide us. Africa was living in peace before the introduction of other religions. Now people are incited to believe fighting to defend a religion is fighting for God. Nigerians are misinformed to believe they are poor because god is the one who will make them rich. Wicked Politicians pay the religious leaders to also make sure they use religion to divide people so as to gain undue advantage. When we talk about scarcity mentaitiy, It's the way the elite has kept the countrys resources in the hand of few people. Most Nigerians are kept in the dark and lie to that there is not enough jobs and resources meanwhile we have abundance of resources. Scarcity mentality is a weapon fashioned against the Nigerian by the elite in our society. |
Re: Best Answer Wins 100k by Zanzibar1: 3:43am On Sep 22 |
eejo: Good morning Eejo Nigerians are easily divided along ethnic and religion line and destroying lives and properties because there are no viable tools for Nation Building. Lack of good nation building institutions is the reason why Nigerians resort to ethnic and religious violence and I will explain Why. Nigeria is an Heterogeneous Society that needs collaborative effort. In Nigeria there are approximately 371 tribes across over 250 ethnic including Hausa-Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba. We have many religions and multi ethnic groups so there is no way friction will not arise. If there was a strong Unifying factor that encourages true Nation Building, Nigerians will not be divided along tribalism (violence) and religious fanatism. Nigerians kill each other destroying lives and properties because Nation Building institutions don't understand their true functions. Infact, they are doing the opposite of nation building. What are the nation building tools? The legislative, Judiciary and the Executive arm of government, also Human rights and the rule of law. In a country where the Rule of Law is respected, crimes reduces and the citizens trust and believes in what the law says Although, we have to take into recognition that nigeria has gone through civil war and this has lead to various tribes not trusting each other enough. They question how genuine leadership is and often times rely on religion to determine who they listen to for guidance. Every tribe wants to lead and doesn't want to be left behind. Once they feel marginalized, the other party starts complaining and oftentimes leads to violence. Some political class and religious elite are taking advantage of this and inciting people into needless religious strife and violence. It is important to also note the issue of poverty which is without the doubt a silent tool used to control people into violence, especially ethnic and religious violence. When the people are kept in hunger and poverty, they would do anything to please the religious and political Elites in order to feed even if they are being misguided with negative religious teachings. About the Scarcity mindset, Nigeria is blessed with abundance of human and natural resources but because of bad governance and political instability which affects the economy: citizens start to think resources are scarce. When humans don't have access to the value of resources, we tend to say it's scarce. Due to high level of corruption in our society, there is always an artificial scarcity...even job scarcity Nigeria is the largest black population in the world which is human resources. We have natural resources in abundance like crude oil, gold, iron ore, precious stones, gas, water, water ways, vast land and agricultural produce, but it's as if there is a SCARCITY of all these things. The youth and even the elders think of Nigeria as a failed state and this is because the greed and corruption is too much. The moment good leadership is established and corruption reduces, scarcity mind set will fizzle out 1 Like |

eejo: The situation in Nigeria is a very complex one, but let me break it down a little. It's like we're sitting on a goldmine, but we're too busy fighting over who gets to hold the shovel. Firstly, Nigeria's got a mix of different ethnic groups and religions - over 250 tribes, and pretty even split between Christians and Muslims. That diversity could be our strength, but instead it's often our weak spot. Why? Well, there's a lot of history of groups not trusting each other, politicians causing trouble between groups, and plain old human nature. Our history's got some deep scars. The civil war, for instance – the civil war left some deep scars that are still healing. So when one group feels like they're getting the short end of the stick, all those old suspicions come flooding back. Now throw in religion. In Nigeria, religion isn't just about faith – politicians use it to stir up trouble so people don't notice them stealing. They'll go to churches and mosques with big promises, while they quietly loot the country. It's a nasty cycle. More poverty makes it easier for politicians to get people worked up over ethnic and religious differences. And there's nothing more dangerous than a poor person who thinks fighting for their tribe or faith will fix everything. But here's the kicker - Nigeria's loaded with oil, minerals, good farmland and other valuable stuff. Not to mention the human capital – Nigerians are some of the most enterprising people you'll ever meet. So why do we act like we've got nothing? It's all about what people see and hear. If you only hear "no money," "no jobs," "no light," after awhile you start to believe things are worse than they really are. Even though we can see wealth around us, we're led to think there's not enough to go around. It's like we're wearing blinders, focusing on what we lack instead of what we've got. The sad part is, believing those lies becomes reality. We fight over crumbs because we've been convinced the cupboard’s bare, even while we stand next to a loaded pantry. So yeah, that sums it up. We've got plenty, but we're too divided and beaten down to see it. Recognizing that is step one to cracking this nut. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

eejo:It's a matter of unity . Where there is no unity , there is no progress. UK , usa , Canada all have different ethnic group , but unity makes their system to work , because they are not divided, they all see themselves as one Americans etc. Nigeria have over 150 ethnic group making division difficult and Nigeria is easily divided by vices like religion and ethnics lines . About scarcity and abundance : Nigeria has all the resource to make us super powerful , but citizens still view from a point of scarcity , because of vices like poverty , poor health care , hunger , high food cost , unemployment and other insecurities which is normal. For example : the whole of my street there is hunger and unemployment and underemployment , many people are living on 30k salary . These things unconsciously causes one to see things from a scarcity mindset , more like elite manipulation. Nigerians are our own enemies imagine a country with milk and honey suffering from this . |

And somehow that scarcity is also influenced by our government, Imagine importing steel and Petrol product, we already have huge oil deposition so why the importation in abundance, because it's a vice to cause unemployment and make citizens poorer. I don't want to dive much into this matter So you see we have abundance but still we view using scarcity lens |

eejo:Nigeria should be Africa's powerhouse - it is the continent's biggest oil producer and most populous country. But after decades of poor governance, most of its 200 million people are still mired in poverty. They are also divided along many lines - ethnic, religious, economic and political - and sometimes these tensions boil over into violence. Nigeria's 200 million people are divided between numerous ethno-linguistic groups and also along religious lines. Broadly, the Hausa-Fulani people based in the north are mostly Muslims. The Yorubas of the south-west are divided between Muslims and Christians, while the Igbos of the south-east and neighbouring groups are mostly Christian or animist. The Middle Belt is home to hundreds of groups with different beliefs. A high level of corruption and the looting of state resources is another serious and pandemic problem that makes all forms of conflict and trouble worse in Nigeria. The country is ‘richly endowed with natural resources and high quality human capital but corruption is one of the main reasons that affect the development of the country in a negative way. The appropriation of state resources by certain hands makes poverty and bitter anger inevitable aspects of daily socio-economic and political routine. In this sense, though corruption is not peculiar to Nigeria, many sources call it the ‘bane of the country And of course, corruption is considered to be one of the main causes of ethno-religious conflicts. Poverty and injustice caused by corruption weaken any sense of mutual tolerance, social solidarity or coexistence, while reawakening social hatred, radicalism and violence. For this reason, corruption is seen as one of the most important issues that has to be resolved in order to cope with ethno-religious conflicts in Nigeria. 1 Like |

The answer is abuse of sexual energy. The two forms of Humanity is God like and Animalistic form with sex in the middle. Society who abuse sex becomes like animals, love their kind only, kill each other, high level of poverty because they have children without means of caring for them, scarcity mindset like animals. Nigerians are in for a long ride unless they stop sexual power abuse. America, UK, European Countries have strong laws against sexual abuse because it destroy society very fast more than anything. Today 90 percent of our online videos are sex related, 90 percent of our music is about sex, to crown it all we have BB Nija on our TV. Those who control their sexual power become like a God among men and produce a wonderful society on Earth. 2 Likes 1 Share |
