frebor:It has editable settings sir, penuelseun used it in his setup years back. And i also heard that using 3*150w panels will be efficient to using a single 400w panels i don't know how true is these. And in case i decide to use a single 600w solar panel as you suggested earlier, how long will it take to get my battery to full? sorry for the too much questions π |

ksmart027: This thing na maths, na the one wey pay you go do. If you need to charge a 100ah battery, assuming there's 5 hours of sunlight, you need 240W. Quality: You'll get a tier 1 panel with high watts, unlikely with smaller panels. This will affect the maximum power the panels can deliver. Cost: how much is 3 panels vs 1 Panel. Choose most cost effective. Power - 3 panels in parallel - small voltage * big current in series - high voltage * small current 1 panel - high voltage * small current. Then you choose the one that won't exceed the input characteristics of your charge controller. |

frebor:Quick question as 30a charge controller only allows 330w for 12v battery, if someone puts a 600w solar panel array would it spoil the charge controller if the input settings of the charge controller is not exceeded?? |

eghos12: The 600 watt is the max output in ideal (perfect) situation: irradiation, inclination, temperature and shading. You won't usually get 600W, which also depends if you're using a MPPT or PWM controller, so it should be safe as long as the input specs are not exceeded. |

eghos12:You are good to go if you are using 150w panels with the controller, a single 600w panel will be a waste as your controller is pwm, an mppt controller will be your best option if you want to get upwards of 250w panels. You can use the controller with lifepo4 so far the charge voltage is editable to your battery specifications 1 Like |

ksmart027:You can use with a 200w solar panels if the VOC is around 22v, it will work with a 7s 24v li-ion battery but not with a 3s 12v battery pack, can you share a picture of the solar panels sticker |

ksmart027:Buy a buck converter and use with your cc. You can buy that 300w buck converter max amps is 9A then use with pwm cc. You will technically have a local man mppt 1 Like |

Obnoxious2001: Local man mppt? You and terms enh? Mppt is great any day any time. One used Canadian 190w 10a 42v produced 9.9a max on a 3s 100ah lithium ion. Had to use a clamp meter to confirm the charging amp to double sure. |

ksmart027: It depends on the VOC of the panel. The usual xl4016 based 300W ( 8A ) buck converter can take up to 38V max out of the box or up to 45V max ( with some slight modifications on the buck converter). Most online spec will indicate up to 60V out of the box, but when you investigate the surrounding electronic built on the converter, you'll quickly realize that it's false. The usual 20A buck (can't recall the IC name) is more efficient as it incorporate FETs for both it forward and flyback cycle as against a FET and a diode used in the xl4016. It can take up to 42V out of the box, and these things are not built equal.. you'll most likely never get beyond 15A max from the best builds. Combining a buck and pwm controller generally gives better result than using only a pwm controller (if set up properly). But not close to being an MPPT as the perfect load point will always change and no means of compensating for the drift. So to answer your question, yes you can, but watch out for the VOC. ksmart027: Yes you can buy the buck max input must be higher than the solar panel VOC. This way you can set a preset Voltage and possibly amps then channel to you cc then your cc does the monitoring..... So buck+ pwm cc= local man mppt . |

My 12v 3s 100ah for my indoor and outdoor powers power station just got completed this morning with. 100ah one way bms with passive balancer. 2a 3s active balancer. Happy birthday π to me. 2 Likes

Queed: π I like when I read posts from informed minds. You really understand how buck and mppt controllers work. I have a conceived a way of making a normal PV to buck converter work and hunt for the MPPT point. Theoretically and maybe partially practical since I have tested the idea partially. Unfortunately I no de get time these days to play with electronic equipments as I like. |
