Controversy has erupted following the announcement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of the Edo governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo victorious on September 22, 2024.

However, results posted on INEC’s Independent Results Viewing (IREV) portal tell a different story, showing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, secured more votes.

Asue Ighodalo’s PDP, according to IREV data, garnered 314,676 votes across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Meanwhile, the APC’s Okpebholo, whose results were initially lower, reportedly surged by 8.58% to 244,606 votes in the final tally released by INEC.

The data has sparked widespread outrage and calls for transparency in the election process, with many questioning the integrity of the official results.

The discrepancies between the IREV portal and the officially announced results have been highlighted across multiple local governments. The anomalies were consistent across several LGAs, leading many to question the legitimacy of the final results.

The discrepancies have led to a growing public outcry, with many Nigerians taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction using the hashtag #DeclareIREVResults.

Social media has been flooded with posts demanding that INEC address the inconsistencies and align the official results with the data displayed on the IREV portal.

“Democracy demands transparency! INEC’s IREV data clearly shows PDP won, so why the change?” tweeted one user.

Another tweet read, “The numbers don’t lie. PDP had 314,676 votes on IREV, yet INEC reduced them drastically. #DeclareIREVResults.”

“The IREV portal was designed to promote transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process, but these discrepancies undermine that goal,” said one election observer.

“INEC must clarify why there’s such a wide gap between the posted IREV results and the declared results,” he added.

Some have called for the judiciary to step in, demanding that the courts review the election and, if necessary, declare the IREV results as the authentic reflection of the people’s will.

This is what everyone is saying but you see these APC clowns celebrating that they are teaching others politics.

The fact on ground is that consecutive APC governments wasted money (in billions) on a so called IREV which INEC doesn't give a fvck about. How can IREV swing one way and INEC goes the other way without an internal investigation of their systems. Funny country.

PDP in Edo State is not even claiming that kind of vote differences victory in the just concluded polls.They never said Asue scored up to 300k votes.what they are claiming is vote addition and substraction which amounted to a vote differences of less than 10k votes.

Personally,i think the election was not entirely free and fair.As far as kogi state election was scaled through the supreme Court,Edo state election which is far more credible than that of kogi, won't have a problem surviving at the supreme Court.I was involved in the Edo election and I can tell u it was very close and no party won with more than 20k vote differences.

You don't demand transparency and accountability from a notorious narcotics drug trafficker, certificate forger, buccaneering power grabber engaging in criminal state capture.

You demand transparency and accountability by getting involved, by going out there to vote, by protecting your vote and ensuring that it is counted and uploaded and seen to have been uploaded on IREV.

Tinubu doesn't know what it means to be transparent and accountable because he is not a democrat and has never been a democrat. Events of the past few months have shown that Tinubu is worse than Idi Amin Dada and an incarnate of Adolf Hitler. This is the criminal electoral process the APC have instituted in Nigeria today. IREV is now useless

Even PDP no drag the matter, na Obidients were their vote count no reach the old minimum wage dey carry the matter for head....

That said, INEC needs to really work on their team to ensure errors like this don't repeat....

PS, constitutionally speaking the result on the IREV is not the official result, the result at the collation Centre is what is recognized by the constitution.

I thought I was going to see a comprehensive investigative journalism, where at least 30% of the results sheets are analysed in comparison with inec declared results.

There are over 4000 polling units, I see less than 10 result sheets flying around social media as evidence of massive rigging. This is how the Obidient cult group where made to believe they won, only to go and lose in court for lack of proper evidence.

You need to prove discrepancies in at least 2000 polling units to upturn the Victory in Edo.
