I wasn't suprised to see someone mentioned pastoring. No matter what you see out there, it still remains a reverend profession with honour, grace and glory.

Those bent in criticizing the church are all agent of darkness same with the fake people the devil planted around in the name of Pastor.

True Pastors burn their health and life serving other, teach hope and trust in God calming down mental health and frustration, teach people to stay away from be crime and social vices & be good citizen.

In those days before independence, these were the jobs highly respected. Their presence alone in the community could sparked fear and apprehension and respect
1. Teacher
2. Court messenger
3. Police
4. Judge
5. Sanitary officer
6. Tax collector

And NRC...Nigerian railway corporation job.

Lawyer.

Well, not a complete joke, but it's taken a lot of bashing - with the "charge and bail" jokes and all.

Banking

Banker? De play.

Do you know the salary of an average core staff banker in Nigeria?

Apart from oil company workers, no other worker earns a LEGITIMATE monthly income like bankers.

It's actually Teaching.

A Grade II teacher of those days na like King in any community...not to talk of Teachers holding administrative positions like Principal.... irrespective of if it's at a primary or secondary school.

This profession is now largely a complete joke, save for few that are working with high reputable private schools

You are so wrong.
Teaching use to be a joke but now it's a big deal.
I have friends who are teachers and they earn around 700k to 800k a month form their main jobs.
They also do private lessons where they charge between 10k - 20k per hour.
All my friends who are teachers are driving good cars and living very comfortably.

How is photography a joke? Even with all the clear cameras that people have access to photographers and videographers are still making it big. Don’t rush to comment because you feel like commenting

Life does not revolve around your friends. Look at the average Nigerian and ask if the average teacher earns up to 100k in Nigeria. Talk less of 800k. Your friends do not make up Nigeria. Many of you nairalanders need to stop commenting or seeing life from only your own circle or point of view.

lol. Maybe you’re thinking of a contract staff. A contract staff is not a banker. Mind you even contact staff are even still paid more than the average Nigerian talk less of core staff.Update yourself on this matter please.

And you should stop using the situation of the "average teacher" to judge the success or otherwise of a profession.
Most of those you call "average teachers" are not even teachers.
They just take up a teaching job because they can't find something at the moment.
A professional teacher who knows their onions and have the relevant certifications is a big deal in the present world.
Know this and know peace!

You're judging the profession by the people you know. An average teacher nowadays especially in private schools earn less than 100k in a month.

Normally I shouldn’t even respond to you because I already know you are shallow. If not for the corruption and injustice in this country, teachers and lecturers all round are to be handsomely paid and compensated. The only difference between most of those teachers earning peanuts is that they happened to be more opportuned. It’s not because your friends have more sense than they do. End of discussion with you.
