Kaycee7:In the books,Neville didn't kill Nagini while it was trying to attack Ron and Hermione, that's a pointer. There are far too many inconsistency in the movie.... |

Kaycee7:I think I understand Joseph1832's point on some level. Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets were easy to adapt because they were the shortest books in the series, allowing the filmmakers to go scene by scene and even page by page. However, things started to go off track with Prisoner of Azkaban. They regained some balance with Goblet of Fire, but after that, the adaptations never quite hit the mark, in my opinion. To put it in perspective, how can Order of the Phoenix, the longest book have one of the shortest runtimes in the entire film franchise, second only to the last part? They could have split it into two movies, but that would have likely required more money, effort, and especially time, since Warner Bros. was on a tight schedule to release a film each year. J.K. Rowling had significant creative control over the first two movies, but as the films' popularity grew, it became overwhelming for her, and Warner Bros. began to make more of the decisions. She had been on the brink of financial ruin a decade earlier, and the Warner Bros. deal turned her into a billionaire and one of the most influential people in the world, so she couldn't really complain. She has since admitted that while the movies did some justice to the books, she is excited about the new series that has been greenlit, which she hopes will be more faithful to the source material. Now, apart from the obvious cash grab, why would they feel the need to revisit the series if the original film adaptations were truly satisfying? I'm not saying they were bad, but they weren't entirely great either. Personally, in hindsight, the only films that have 100% rewatch value for me are Chamber of Secrets, Goblet of Fire, and Philosopher's Stone, in that order. I could care less about the others, to be honest. 1 Like 1 Share

armadeo:I can't even possibly want to imagine what they'll do to it, if they allow Hollywood to be Hollywood. The scene were Okonkwo fought Amalize the cat, is so rich in culture it kept me glued to the TV back then. I'm stylishly wondering how Hollywood will recreate it. Lol. Anyway, let's hope they don't add wokeism to it sha, because men... 2 Likes |

oyaskii:My whole interest in this was because he used the term "butchered". That had me curious to hear why he thought so. So you can imagine my disappointment when it was the same old points. The movie adaptations indeed had their flaws but saying they butchered the books definitely feels like too many steps too far. I mean, what do you want Eragon fans to say then? 😁😁 |

armadeo: Africa and beyond? Are you guessing or you have proof? Look, it wasn't even a hit in Nigeria, perhaps it was in Igbo land. As for the book, it is popular abroad. armadeo: Just say your household or Igbo land was glued to their TV watching Things Fall Apart. It wasn't a monster hit as you try to paint it. Wili Wili, Basi and Company, Village Headmaster, Tales By Moonlight, etc, were the monster hits. |

oyaskii:The books are my best books of all time but the movies are not- but it doesn't mean it was mutilated. Adaptations are not word-to-word or else it'd seen flat. Imagine making an 8-10 hour series of a book as short as the philosopher's Stone - that'll be way harder than making a movie out of it. In my opinion, they did a very good job adapting the last 5 books giving how detailed the books are. Not perfect but perfect enough |

LifestyleTonite:I didn't know it even know it existed for a long time. Tales by Moonlight was more acclaimed and recognised than every show at that time and it wasn't even regarded as a monster hit😂 |

oyaskii: Damn, that Joys of Motherhood would slap AF. I remember how I thief this book from my very close friend back then. From borrowing the book to never giving it back. Na other books and bribes wey I no care about I use whine my friend. Last Days At Forcados High is also a gem. Honestly, we have all the resources to produce top quality, our studios here are not just serious enough. I just remembered some short stories I used to buy in my Junior secondary days going to school....there's this author who focuses on a niche tales of supernatural stories/ beings or retellings. Dude loved stories about Mami Wata, Snake Girl, evil forest and the likes...those stories where gripping to me back then. Can't remember the authors name, but I knew there was a woman who sold a good number of that guys books close to my school and I saved up my excess change to buy those short story books. E just dey pain me say I no be art student.... There were many good books I missed during my time in school cos I was a science student and we had this weird mentality of looking down on art department as the place the unambitious goes to or the unserious ones hiding place. Those short stories could easily be turned into anthology miniseries. I wonder what a filmmaker like Mike Flanagan would do to those horror short stories about Mermaids, Snake Girl and Ogbanje and dem likes. Yep, seems that EbonyLife/Netflix deal is dead cos there's been literally nothing like you said other than Olotúre from them. I remember that film gave me promise that we were on the right track. Never watched the part 2 cos I felt it wasn't needed. There was also King of Boys which blew me away. I'm still surprised how Nollywood veered off of these and focused on giving us the "Jaiye Jaiye" part of life with them Chief Daddy and the likes...now Oyo Empire craze. 1 Like |

joseph1832:Oga, I thought you were saying something else only because you as a hp stan should understand why it happened that way - it was more fun and action packed to film a scene like that than Neville just killing the snake in front of everyone |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Illusioneffect(m): 4:02pm On Sep 29 |
abduleez1:Forget the rest - TLDAFH would be a really popular movie not just in Nigeria but in the world because its themes resonate with everyone. I can't even believe no one in Nollywood has thought of that yet- it's cliche, simple, easy to understand. And it has a great theme? I'ld love to even get the rights to make a movie like that. Netflix would swallow it raw since it's already so popular. Even InDependence - that story would make for a good movie |

Illusioneffect:He meant that, in the movies, Neville kills Nagini during a chase sequence while in the books, Neville kills Nagini right after pulling Gryffindor's sword from the Sorting Hat and nobody was being chased. He's not wrong but it's a nitpick which isn't what I was expecting |

@ Seun Your site needs fixing. Half the time, I can't comment. The other half, I can't upload photos It keeps redirecting and asking if I'm human. It doesn't matter what I click, I get reverted back to home page |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by oyaskii(m): 6:13am On Sep 30 |
Baddestguyp:The human verification thingy before photo uploads has been on for a while now, most likely to avoid bots spamming the forum with unwanted photos, but after passing the captcha, it uploads just fine. I have been uploading photos with minimal fuss for months now and i keep seeing people say they can't. Infact i will just upload a random info to this post about recaptcha, just to show you. It fails most times due to various reasons too. I use NL on multiple devices, and it is works best on one of my particular device which isn't my daily driver which i supposed it would work fine on, since it is the more robust and recent device, but No. so check your devices too. Make show your browsers is updated and has JavaScript enabled, or better still, change browsers. Network strength too also impacts it.

I'm happy to see that many of my fellow Nairalanders agree that it is not everything Hollywood should adapt. Something so deep and cultural like THINGS FALL APART should be done by someone who understands the culture deeply. There is always a difference between someone who experienced a culture first hand and someone who experienced it from afar overseas. Nice |

When will Deadpool 3 be available on the high seas? |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Gmajor(m): 2:14pm On Sep 30 |
NaijaMemes: Lol. I don't agree with this sentiment 1. Things Fall apart already has a Nigerian adaption. It was a long time ago and I don't remember it very well, but a Nigerian adaption already exist. 2. The job of a actor is to interpret a script and bring it to life. The heavy lifting has already been done by Achebe. A good actor should be able to research and bring a character to life. If he has to live through an experience in order to act it out, then that person is a bad actor. 3. You don't need first hand experience to ''understands the culture deeply''. Most Nigerians are not familiar with pre-colonial Nigeria and anything they know about it, is from what they read or what the heard from a 3rd party. 4. The Nigerian movie industry seems to be mostly disinterested in telling pre-colonial stories or adaption of classic Nigerian literature. If Hollywood has to undertake this task for them, then the will make to to appeal to a a very broad audience. And one of the easiest ways of doing this is by hiring established actors who are households names. There will be people who will see a movie/series because Idris Alba is in it and not because they have any particular interest in the clash of ideologies that the coming of the white man to eastern Nigeria brought. 5. Idris Alba already has a solid repertoire of playing Africans characters. His performance in Beast of No Nation and Sometimes in April were both solid. Yes his accent will be off in the new movie, but I don't think it will ruin the movie. 1 Like 1 Share |
