The Lagos Police Command has successfully facilitated the return of N1 million extorted from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by four police officers in the Surulere area, News360 Nigeria gathered.

The incident was brought to light by an X user, Oluyemi Fasipe, who revealed that the officers allegedly demanded the sum after the corps members failed to produce a physical copy of their driver’s license.

In addition to the N1 million extorted, one of the corps members was reportedly forced to transfer Bitcoin worth $842 to the officers.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and stated that the officers involved had been identified and were undergoing interrogation.

While the names of the officers were not disclosed, Hundeyin assured that the ongoing investigation would determine their culpability.

The officers could face dismissal depending on the outcome of the internal trial, a process aimed at addressing police misconduct and ensuring justice for the affected corps members.

Giving an update on Friday, October 4, Fasipe tweeted: “The rogue men of the Area C command of the @LagosPoliceNG who extorted over 1 million naira from the corp members have refunded the money.

“I am patiently waiting for the outcome of their trial. I like to appreciate @BenHundeyin and the @officialnyscng Lagos State for their efforts too.

“I also like to use the opportunity to say hello to my friend in Delta State, @Brightgoldenboy.”

See! The police still haven't released their names meaning chances are high these men will only get a slap on the wrist, and probably be transferred to another state and unit where they will then go on to torment the lives of other Nigerians over there and so on. undecided

Egbetokun and his gangster force need to be reigned in and as it is na only the Nigerian people fit do am. undecided

A strong/healthy institution is the one where there is strong deterrence and punishment for bad behaviors no matter how influential/high the bad egg is.

Kudos to the Police force but this was only done to safe their image because the issue already generated social media attention.

Situation like this must come with big stick on the Police leadership as well. The DPO, Area commander and big guns in that Police division where this happen should be suspended without pay for months or relocate them to rural areas. I believe all this junior officers make returns to the high rank officers. Once security agencies are clean, corruption 'might' reduce in this country.

Cos of driver's license ?
Why were the names of the officers not mentioned?
Hope they get the right judgement they deserve?
Kudos for fishing them out
What if the Bitcoin ? They need to refund that too.
See their faces, greedy old men.

Incident like this will continue to repeat itself in the Police Force.
The problem is a fundamental one .
The rank and file recruitment process of the Nigeria Police Force is very faulty and have been monitized.
Is no more by merit.
Whenever you see incident of such magnitude, just know that they are Inspector's involve in the crime.
Many of the present day Inspector's of Police are not worthy or qualified to wear police uniforms not to talk of give them guns to manned our roads.
Many police Inspectors are ex. dangerous criminals.
Their family members out of pity for their life not to be useless spent so much money with all the connections they have to fix them in the Nigeria Police Force.
Not that they were qualified to join the police.
They only took them away from the street crime, but the street is still in them.
You hardly hear such disgraceful news from officers that passed through the CADET ranks.
I have personally in the past written petitions to past IGP's for an urgent need to review the recruitment process of the police rank and file.
If nothing is done, we will continue to hear more of this kind of bad news about our police.

Start by paying them a living wage, minimum 200k per month for the lowest rank. Next, make sure the payment is on time, e go shock you how police would suddenly love and value their jobs.

Even if their minimum wage is #1,000,000.00 per month for the lowest rank officer, Nigerian police can not desist from illegal extortion of people's hard earning.

Try it first, do you think some officers in the USA or UK don't do illegal activities? The goal is to reduce the number of bad officers and let the good ones prosper......As with all jobs, it must make financial sense otherwise it is a burden and not a job!

How is that related to the subject matter ? How does the manner in which the corp members made their money justify the actions of the rogue police officers?

On point. How many fellows here can do the job of the NPF at there renumeration. It's a systematic collapse.

Just regular PMs in small private companies earn as much or more than commissioners of police?
