The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently led a delegation from the state to Istanbul, Turkey, for a working visit with executives from Summa International Construction Inc.

In a statement and photos shared on his official X.com handle on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu stated that the meeting aimed at exploring potential collaboration on the Lekki-Epe Airport project.

The statement read, “I led a team on a working visit to Istanbul, Turkey, where we engaged with executives from Summa Group, a key player in the construction sector.

“Our discussions focused on the vision for the Lekki-Epe International Airport, which will significantly improve connectivity in Lagos State and alleviate congestion at Murtala Mohammed International Airport.”

It added that the Chairman of Summa International Construction Inc., Selim Bora, took the governor and his team on a tour of the company projects.

“Mr. Selim Bora, the Chairman of Summa International Construction Inc., provided us with a tour of their projects, showcasing the company’s expertise and commitment to quality. The group has a proven track record in delivering large-scale infrastructure initiatives.

“As we explore potential collaboration on the airport project, we recognize its transformative impact on our economy, from job creation to establishing Lagos as a leading hub for international travel and commerce,”
Sanwo-Olu wrote.

Once again, this has started on a wrong note.

Interested construction companies should be coming to you, Governor, to express their interest. Not you going to them.

When will we ever learn about power dynamics, optics, and the art of negotiating from a position of strength.

There appears to be no end in sight to the African affliction of inferiority complex.

If Tinubu had waited for investors to come to him when he was Lagos governor, we would not have Lekki free trade zone, let alone Dangote refinery.

Sit this one out. It's beyond your IQ level.

This is different. Lekki free trade was a high risk, unknown factor 20 or 25 years ago, so the vision needed to be sold to foreign investors.

This is completely different. None of Lagos, Lekki, or the potential of an airport is an unknown quantity the way an abstract free zone area in the Lekki area was years back. So there are many international companies interested in getting involved in the airport.

Also, a single Nigerian or a consortium of 2 or 3 Nigerians can finance this project from start to finish, and just bring in an international operator to manage the airport on an O & M basis. Bringing a Turkish company to build the airport on a 25, 30 or more years concession is not an optimum way of going about this. It's just the usual African mentality of selling off everything to foreigners.

And you questioning my intellect grin What will one not hear on Nairaland.

This one doesn't even know the airport is going to be located within the Lekki free trade zone. Look at how he is contradicting himself in a bid to sound intelligent LMAO.

You want them to give the contract to Ade, Chukwu and Hassan sons limited. Don't worry. There are many projects within a bigger projects, so there would be chances for local companies to bid on the projects within the system.

This is an economy that the rookie GRV thinks he can manage. An architect graduate at over 40 years of age without any tangible work experience. That guy should go and start from local government councillor.

I read what he wrote too. That deralue or whatever he calls himself wasn't making any sense. The boy thinks the government and its officials are foolish to travel out and look for investors. Mind you, this is a project that's likely going to be in the 100 of millions of dollars. Maybe you guys think money grows on trees. Since you are always trying to bring down any positive thing with your dark minds.

All he said is that the contract should start with open bidding to the governor and not the governor showing preference to a foreign firm. Nigerian companies are able to finance projects worth billions of dollars, nothing too big that can't be handled locally.

Lol. LAGOS Government has been trying to secure funding for it since 2011. This one is talking bidding. 🤡

A Nigerian bank is the financial advisor.

If we check now, you are from Ebonyi or one of those funny states that should normally be a local government.
