Hi everyone,

Pls, I just submitted my ds 160 for and I have Lagos as my interview location in the submitted form but on getting to the avits website I realized that there are no dates for Lagos at all but there are dates for Abuja location. Can I book my appointment at the Abuja location with the submitted form or do I have to fill another ds 160 form? What do I need to do and I have also paid for the visa application fee already.

I received the following reply, which seems like a generic response. At the moment, I'm unsure how to proceed. To book appointment for my 3 year old.
I managed to book the same date for myself and wife.

I have completed and submitted the DS-160 form and made the payment for her. I also scheduled the same appointment date for myself and my wife, but I’m unable to find that same date for her. My question is: Can I book a different available date for her, and then bring her along with us to our appointment? Will she be allowed to attend the appointment with us?

Hi Gd0007

Yes it's a generic reply. To book appointment for your baby, first fill out a ds 160 form for him/her and after that pay the visa fee and start the appointment booking process. You will do it inside your profile. It is not compulsory you see same date, you or the mother can take the baby to the interview but you should be able to use the three reschedule lifeline to match your own date. Or raise a ticket with the baby's date may be the embassy can grant you the request to reschedule in order to align with the parents.

A number of people experienced same thing. We had to give up and went further until we saw available dates that can be chosen.

Probably the system locked those spaces for specific purposes.

Kindly share with the house the month and year with selectable available dates when you finally see them.


Thanks for the heads up, 6th December 2024 and 3rd February 2025 have same reference issues (Lagos). No other available date down till almost 2025.

I will keep checking and please if you find any available date; kindly share too.

I tried to create an account with AVITS but I couldn't log in.
The system keep saying that "User is inactive"
I have checked for activation link from my mail, junk box, spam and all since Saturday without any luck.
I tried using someone's email but still the same result.
I tried chatting them but there was no way to chat with a real human, it was only bot with limited question and answers they provided. You can't type questions, you can only click on limited amount of questions they provided.
I also called, using the online call they provided, it was also a bot that responded.
I called one of the phone numbers they provided, but MTN said the number does not exist.

Please anyone with real answer on how I can move forward should please help me

I have the same issue since Saturday..I even thought because yesterday is an holiday in the US that’s why I couldn’t chat with real human. It’s still same thing today. It’s extremely frustrating tbh. No help, no one to talk to, hopefully we get resolution soon

Here is what i did just now to be able to chat with actual human. I clicked on visa service then i clicked on already paid mrv fee and it gave me option to chat with support, so i told them what the issue is and i sent them my email. They said they have escalated it to support sha. Hopefully, they resolve soon, you can try that option as well

I doubt that, the only solution is to continue to talk to the AVIT operator through call or chat until we are to reach an experienced operator.

Hello good people, I need help with this.

My sister is applying through drop box with her 2 children. She applied using different emails for herself and the 2 children as instructed on the US embassy website but she only received confirmation for her appointment, not the children's. No email confirmation was received for the children in the emails they used but she received hers in the email since they all used different emails as advised on the website.

How does she go about it to receive the email confirmation for the children please?

Hi Gd0007

The official rule for family appointments is to book a separate appointment for each person, but the rule did not state whether they have to book uniform dates in order to appear together on the day of their interviews.

If you have a uniform appointment date with your wife and your kid has a different appointment date on your appointment day that is going to be a trial and error which will be determined by the consular (a possible 221g case to come back with the kid or go and drop off her visa application).

You can apply for an emergency appointment for your kid probably they will open a date for her to match up with yours or raise a ticket with her appointment letter. Or better still talk to the avits customer help desk for proper guidance.

You can dhl your documents to a close friend/family in the city and have them drop off and pick up for you. That's what I had to do at the end. The screenshot shows the steps for someone picking up for you.

pls those that did IW/dropbox dropoff at IOS office abuja, how long was the wait?,,, am thinking of booking a morning flight to abuja and an afternoon departure flight, ie budgeting about 3hrs for the dropoff at OIS office....pls confirm if this is enough for those who dropped off at OIS Abuja.

2NDly, are they strict on time, ie you must appear by the exact time you booked for the appointment?. my flight to abuja arrives about 9am, wud prefer to book the 10am drop off slot so as to finish early and head back to the airport, but doubting if the taxi can get me to OIS maitama office y 10am

I have an interview for next week which I rescheduled on the new website, now I see it has reverted to 2026 which I had on the old website, I reached out to support and I have a ticket. Please anyone with the same issue that resolved it, please help.

I secured a visa interview date of Oct 23rd (after the new site was launched). It was Aug 28, 2025 before on the old site but got the Oct 23rd after new site. Now I see that the Aug 28 is back on my profile but I have the appointment letter for Oct 23rd and never received an email of interview date change. Please any advice on what could be going on and if going to the Embassy with the appointment letter for Oct 23rd is not going to be a waste of journey. It's the Abuja location.

wow, have you heard back on this? whats your next course of action? the same thing happened to me and my date is next tuesday

You can go if you want. But you wouldn’t be interviewed. Happened to about 100 of us scheduled for yesterday in Lagos. Most of us rescheduled to yesterday but apparently the date had changed since on Tuesday. I saw mine Thursday night but everyone I told said it was a glitch, got to the embassy and waited for 6 hours for them to check their system and find a solution but still didn’t get interviewed. It was really a mess as some people started causing trouble. Some of their officers were accusing people of printing out fake appointments given to them by agents. In the end a consular official addressed us and said we should go that they would investigate and get back to us. I think this AVITS system is really not working well or has been compromised.
